As the lessons continue, I slowly add new tools to each weekly lesson that are exiting and interesting. While working with intermediate to advanced students, I have had coached them to apply and get accepted into some of the top Universities and Conservatories in the country. My students, beginner intermediate and advanced levels, have been awarded for their performances and activities in schools and competitions.
I am also a composition teacher. I work with composition students from beginner to advance. My composition students, over the years, range from all ages starting at 7. My students, after the first year, have been able to write string quartets and piano trios. My advanced students have entered competitions all over the country and are very successful in their composition practice. Some of their compositions have been performed in famous concert halls and schools.

Most recently I held a piano, composition and vocal recital for my students at the world famous Steinway Hall in New York City. I believe that some students work better when there is motivation for performance activities. For that reason I host these type of events. Students that decide they want to take place in these events perform among all levels. I offer these performance opportunities as an invitation. Each student has a choice as to whether they would like to perform.

Get that callback! Focus is on auditioning, appropriate repertoire selection and effective "cuts", "selling" the song, acting for the music theatre stage, auditioning techniques and preparation.

About Judy
First of all, leave any fear or doubt at the door! We will work together to help you build and develop your voice for whatever your need. Whether you are a beginner just realizing you can sing, a high school student needing to prepare for your college auditions or a professional singer getting ready for an upcoming audition, I can get you where you need to be! My philosophy of voice instruction, developed over twenty-five years of teaching experience, personal vocal study and professional singing, focuses on three primary areas:
- Proper singing technique
- Key principles of voice training
- Breath development as a foundation for singing
- Care of the voice
- Varied and appropriate repertoire
In addition, voice training demands an exceptional ability to connect with the student on a personal level. Vocal in
struction is a highly individualized art. The melding of both the technical and the personal aspects of singing is the dynamic that creates an effective and successful teaching/learning experience. Augmenting my teaching experience, I have been heavily involved in productions with children and young adults, using my musical knowledge, vocal expertise and skill in dance and choreography.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance from Carnegie Mellon University. I am a professional singer and actress and a member of Equity and SAG-AFTRA.

*** Lesson Details ***
I find that when a student arrives for their lesson, they usually are a bit tense, either because they were stuck in traffic, had a bad day at work, did poorly on a test at school, etc. So we always start with some stretches to loosen up and clear the mind. For voice students, we'll move on to technique building, working with breathing exercises, learning about good support and placement. Next, we'll continue the warm up with a series of varied exercises-think "Do-Re-Mi" from The Sound of Music-and then move on to songs. Your repertoire will be varied. You'll be singing classical music (really helps to build and strengthen the voice), music theater, pop, country and anything you may be interested in singing! That being said, since this is your lesson time, you may need to prepare for an audition, a solo at church or some other performance and may need to devote your entire lesson to that preparation. And that's fine with me. We need to be flexible to help you get the most from your time with me!

Whatever you are studying, always know that my primary goal is your growth as a musician and performer.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a digital recorder & cassette recorder. I find it is better for my students to have their own voice recorder but I can record for them.

*** Specialties ***
My experience as a performer has been varied, ranging from fronting a rock band in the 80's to cantoring for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to music theater (I am a member of Equity & SAG) to jingle & commercial work. I specialize in music theater and classical but am very comfortable working with pop & rock.

Judy is great! Very flexible! She's a great listener, so it's easy to explain what I think my weaknesses are (she's also good at pointing out things I didn't know I have a problem with) and she knows so many exercises to address them. She's also very patient, kind and positive, so I never feel down or hopeless about what I'm trying to accomplish. Definitely the best teacher I've had so far!

Broadway! With musical theater there is a particular focus on building a strong core into the voice so that the singer is versatile and able to negotiate the particular challenges of this repertoire in a way that is healthy and sustainable.

About Elliott
I am a classically trained singer living, working, and teaching in NYC. I have a degree in vocal performance from The University of Maryland at College Park. While in the D.C. Metro area I performed as a chorister and soloist at The National Shrine, Metropolitan A.M.E Church, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. My exposure to a wide range of music, from baroque to contemporary gospel and musical theater, has strongly influenced my teaching. My goal is always to help a student develop their own understanding and experience of singing in a way that is fun, interactive, and personal while also progressively building a strong technique.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are generally split between technical work/ warm-ups and repertoire. I like to adapt my concepts to a students individual personality and capability, in that
sense I am flexible about the approach taken to achieve optimal results. Every singer thinks and communicates differently and I see it as my job to figure out what will work best for you. I think that a foundation in a classical approach gives students the biggest toolkit which to work. Once the fundamentals are firmly established, that singer then has the ability to approach any style of music in a way that is healthy and secure.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Programmable Digital Piano and Recording Equipment.

*** Specialties ***
The approach I take to the voice is based in the tradition of classical bel canto singing. It is always my goal to help students understand how to use their breath and body to produce sound that is free of tension, optimal, and beautiful.

Elliott is a very effective teacher. I always trust Elliott's ear and he has helped bring out a truer sound inside of me that I've never experienced before. I trained in musical theater and have sang for a long time, Elliott has greatly helped me connect with my singing instrument in an open, technical, and healthy approach. Very grateful. Thank you!

Marcelle is a wonderful teacher. She always makes you feel comfortable, listens to your concerns, and gives great tips/ways into establishing a good technique. I had lessons with her over the summer, and in that little time I felt like I'd grown a lot. That fall, I auditioned for a show at my university that made me sing in a style I've never been comfortable with. It was a really strenuous process and nearly all of the singers strained their voices. My voice adapted because I had a great foundation.

A NYC resident for the last 8 years, I have a strong background in both performing and educating and it is my strong belief that teachers who are "in the biz" are extremely valuable. Specializing in Musical Theatre and serving as an actor, music director, producer, and director over the years, I have a unique perspective of the industry and all it takes to make you ready for your next audition, concert, performance, etc. I hold a Bachelors of Music from NYU Steinhardt, where I had a strong classical training in Vocal Performance - all the while, making sure that beautiful, healthy singing is married to the text and emotional state of the character. While voice lessons with me are largely dedicated to developing a strong vocal technique, I will always come back to what songs mean on a deeper, more emotional level, as I believe that in so much of the material in the MT lexicon is written in such a way that the music and words and context of a song all feed and inform each other. ...

About Zack
Hi All! I am a New York based professional actor, music director, producer, and the co-artistic director of a professional theatre company housed here in the city. I hold credits from the New York Stage and regionally and graduated with honors from NYU with a degree in Vocal Performance with an Emphasis in Music Theatre. Over the years, I have taught students of all ages and I specialize in utilizing classical vocal technique and healthy singing habits to inform what is at the heart of a song; that is, how in each song, there is a unique marriage between the words and the notes. Additionally, having been cast in leading roles in musicals with pop, rock, and hip/hop influenced scores myself, I believe that a strong background in classic vocal exercise truly helps to keep your voice healthy and strong regardless of the style of the music -
the industry is full of artists who manage to negotiate these differing styles with simple tricks and remembering the basics in regards to air flow, resonance, and diction. In addition to vocal instruction, I also offer beginner/intermediate saxophone lessons, beginner piano, and beginner/intermediate/advanced music theory and music-reading. Thank you for reading and I hope to talk to you soon!

About Laura
Hello! I am a NYC-based singer, pianist, actress, and animal-lover. Born and raised in Los Angeles, my artistic career began as a classical pianist, performing in venues across California, Japan, and Austria from a very young age. As a singer, I performed around the world with the Broadway tour of Avenue Q, and I've been seen in dozens of musical theatre and Shakespeare productions throughout the U.S. and even in Russia!

By combining my two passions of singing and playing piano, I served as Artist-in-Residence for California Musical Theatre Company, Sacramento Theatre Company, and the cell theatre in NY.

I've been teaching in NYC for over a decade, and my passion is to inspire the next generation of creative people of all ages.

When it comes to music, there is a quote that I love: "Every expert was once a beginner." This quote reflect
s my philosophy on pursuing the arts: that it's never too late to start and that no matter where you are in your musical journey, practice is the key to success. Mastering a skill requires discipline and dedication, and my goal is to help you find joy and inspiration along the way.

My lessons focus on building a strong foundation of technique, which gives you the freedom to explore your creativity and musicality; it is very important for me that my students strive not only for technical precision but also for musical artistry. Together, we will set a practice schedule that you can adhere to regularly, and I'll make sure to send you away with specific instructions each week on how to practice effectively.

With my fun, high-energy approach to teaching, you are guaranteed to enjoy the journey as you take significant steps toward becoming an expert. I'm looking forward to meeting you and getting started soon!

I met Laura at Harvard University when we were both doing our MFA degrees in acting. Since our program was not a Musical Theater one and I was not a singer, I started to take private lessons with her to compliment some of the training in singing we were getting there.

Laura is a fantastic singer and actor. She has an incredible ear as well as great knowledge and experience of what makes a singing performance pop. All this makes her an outstanding coach.

Even now after graduation, I am still training with her. Our focus now is on continuing the development of my singing voice. My goal is to reach a level where I have the skill and confidence to audition professionally for musicals, and I know I am in great hands.

Laura is a great music teacher! She was my voice teacher before she went to grad school and I learned a lot from her. Her approach to singing is wonderful (she doesn't only teach you how to sound good but also how to act through songs) and it's really important especially if you are pursuing musical theatre. Not only that, I had so much fun during her lessons! I highly recommend her to be your voice/music teacher! :)
