Berklee College of Music graduate from Boston, MA with a passion for all genres, though mainly popular music. For me, music has always been about having fun and doing what feels natural, and I try to pass this on to my students.
In all seriousness, if it's not fun, why do it?
I'm super laid back, but I refuse to let you spend your money, or someone else's, on lessons like it's going out of style. I believe that the more fun you have with music, the more you'll want to play, and as a result, the better a musician you will become.
*** Lesson Details ***
During the first lesson, we will create a clear goal and purpose for your lessons. Each lesson will be tailored to what YOU need in order to achieve your
Every student has a different motivation for taking lessons. Whether you simply want to show off for that special someone or you're trying to get into an elite music school, it is my objective to get you there with a smile on your face.
Want to learn the top ten guitar solos of all time? And nothing else? Just say so!
Want to learn piano theory until you're dizzy? We can do that too!
Always wanted to play drums but think you're too uncoordinated? No such thing!
Or, maybe you're already a polished musician lacking the theory to get another degree - no matter what your motivation may be, together we can make it happen.
You don't have to listen to a specific type of music to be a real musician. Yes, believe it or not, Britney Spears is a musician too! We'll work on the types of music YOU enjoy, not the stuff your parents, friends, or coworkers consider 'good' music.
Whether you want to learn Justin Bieber or Rachmaninoff, it's cool with me - believe it or not, the two have something in common...don't believe me? I'll prove it!
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in online music lessons. I have an extensive background in computers and technology, and incorporate a lot of unique tools to my online lessons to greatly improve the user's experience, such as multiple camera angles; picture-in-picture views; displaying sheet music on your screen and being able to highlight, point, and change pages for you; as well as interactive games similar to Rock Band that I control on my end as the student participates on their end.
I teach all styles, though my interests are mainly in pop, electronic, rock/hard rock/classic rock, metal, and classical.
PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING LESSONS:
- All students must meet at least once a week.
- Cancellations are allowed once every three months.

Debbie is available for lessons in her home studio, or will travel to your home in Pittsboro, Moncure, Carrboro, Chapel Hill, or Apex. Music is a lifelong gift that Debbie is so excited to share with you and help you accomplish all your musical dreams and goals. She especially loves to work with children and adults with ADD and ADHD because she knows personally how music can positively impact and benefit the brain of one diagnosed with those conditions. In fact, ADD and ADHD are conditions that are viewed as a benefit when learning music, and strengthens your ability to learn and play an instrument. And conversely, learning a musical instrument actually increases your ability to focus and concentrate, translating to all other areas of your life as well.
Debbie has been playing guitar, ukulele, and clarinet for over ye
Debbie enjoys a variety of musical genres including, but not limited to; classical, jazz, folk, rock, pop, and children's music.
So, if you are looking to change your life or the life of your child, give them the gift of music by scheduling a lesson with Debbie right now. If you do not see a time on her schedule that is convenient for you, please contact her and she will make every effort to work with you to get you scheduled for a time that works best for you.
Debbie attended Suffolk College in Selden, New York, where she earned her degree in music performance as a clarinet and voice major. She continued her musical training in music performance at the prestigious Aaron Copeland School of Music at Queens College in Flushing, Queens, NY, where admittance is by audition only, also majoring in clarinet and voice. In addition to learning about musical performance, she also received vigorous training in music theory, sight reading, dictation, and ear training. All these skills are paramount to succeeding as an exceptional musician and musical instructor.
Although Debbie was trained as a classical musician, she was also a member of the guitar ensemble and played clarinet and alto sax in the jazz band, giving her experience in other genres of music as well beyond classical.
After graduating college, Debbie spent 3 years playing her clarinet and alto sax in the orchestra for numerous musicals in theaters around the New York area. In addition, she also sang and played acoustic guitar for a couple of years during college with her band in local establishments around Long Island.
Most recently, before the birth of her children, Debbie was active in the musical program of her church in Cary, NC, where she sang in the choir, played clarinet in the chamber orchestra for special musical events, and played guitar and ukulele, and sang for the children's Sunday school. Activities she looks forward to returning to in the near future.
Currently, Debbie plays mostly for her own pleasure, and plays guitar and ukulele on a regular basis for her two young children, engaging them in fun singing and dancing musical time. Music is a staple in our home and I hope to help you make it a staple in your home as well. Music truly brings people and families together!

I like to teach my students how to learn, not just 4 chords to play, but to be able to after enough time and effort be able to play any song that they want!
My guitar teacher that I had for many years showed me what it was like to play guitar, to move away from all of the memorizing finger placement, and to just play for the fun of it.
Popular songs and introduction to chord formations, tuning and technique.
I've worked as a professional church choral music director, and have extensive experience teaching (in addition to piano) hand drums, drumset, singing, and beginning guitar -- all in a variety of genres.
I help singers achieve vocal freedom, connecting most directly to songs as well as their natural voice.
I perform around my local area in a variety of venues from upscale wine bars to weddings.
I live, teach, and play with passion -- and look forward to sharing that with every new student I meet.
