Private Guitar Teacher

I've been teaching beginning guitar lessons off and on for 15 years. I like to give students the basic elements of chords, scales, picking, and strumming so that they can get to work creating their own music or playing the music they like. Start with no musical background, or build upon your musical knowledge you've gained from other instruments.

About Andrew

I've been playing the drums for over 30 years and the guitar for over 20. I'm currently accepting beginning and intermediate drum students and beginning guitar students. I studied percussion in college, although I did not earn my degree in music. I was the Drumline Captain at Ricks College (Now B

Andy is an excellent instructor.

My 14 year old son had been playing drums for an hour or more every day for several months, and was making fair progress. He was convinced he could learn the drums on his own. But between his first and second lesson he improved exponentially. We were clearly going down the right path.

While my son was uncomfortable with the idea of taking lessons from someone he didn’t really know, Andy established a strong rapport with him by the end of lesson 1. And he was very eager to come back for lesson 2.

We intend to continue lessons with Andy for the foreseeable future.

Obviously also depending on your specific goals and experience, besides learning your favorite songs, we'll discuss techniques, music theory and creating music yourself (improvisation and songwriting).

I can also provide helpful advice on guitar related aspects like sound/equipment, instrument setup /maintenance and recording.

About Nils

Whether you're a beginner or more advanced, age 5 or 500, in my experience, with even a few minutes of consistent daily practice anyone can learn music. Maybe your goal is to simply learn to play your favorite songs or maybe you want to learn to write your own music, improvise, or perform live. L

I started with Nils after self teaching through YouTube, and would consider myself about an intermediate. I hit a point in my playing where I no longer had a good idea of how to get where I wanted to go. Nils has been really helpful in giving me direction towards my goals and exploring new guitar concepts through songs. He has a wide knowledge and has encouraged me to learn multiple styles, as well as improvisation which I used to shy away from. It’s really been invaluable to have someone like Nils as a guide in your guitar journey

Nils has been working with our son for a little over the past month, and we are very happy in finding such a talented teacher. Our son has some music background, having taken some guitar instruction in the past, so Nils was pretty quick to pick up on where he is musically and right off the bat work how to adjust to his needs. His lessons are a good mix of theory and application, and we can see how they (the lessons) are progressing in terms of complexity and reach. While we, the parents, are very happy to let them work out the lessons themselves, Nils has taken great care in keeping us in the loop, and we certainly appreciate that as parents. Certainly looking forward to how these guys progress!

"Great teacher, large knowledge of many genres.

Paul is an overall great teacher. Before I took lessons with him, I knew next to nothing about playing guitar. I might have known the "box" minor pentatonic scale and possibly aeolian as a mode. Then I started taking lessons with him for Metal, my personal genre of choice and I started learning at a far more accelerated rate. Fast forward to about 9 months ago (January 2012) and I'd also grown an interest in Jazz. Fortunately Paul is an excellent teacher in both genres and helped my tastes (in both) genres develop and now he teaches me in Jazz. I even went to the Berklee school of music five week summer program (I'm to young to apply to the school's full time program) and thrived there. I recently got my report card for the class and his extensive teaching of how to play guitar from playing jazz chords to complex music theory (we're learning about chromatic harmony with the use of secondary dominants and tritone substitutions) helped me get only A's and B's. The areas where I got A's include classes such as high level theory, ensemble classes, ear training and genre specific guitar labs. I only got B's in my reading and chord labs, my reading which has always been poor, and my chord lab which involved nothing but right handed chord charts (I'm a left handed guitarist). I dont think I would have been able to get these grades if i had a different teacher or were self-taught, even with my music classes I'd taken at school I was always ahead of the rest of the class thanks to my extensive knowledge of theory with Paul. Paul comes to my house, which makes getting ready for my lesson as easy as turning my amp onto standby for the Tubes to warm up."

"I've been taking lessons with Raymond for a few years now and plan to keep taking them for as long as I can! Each lesson is a great experience because I learn so much. Even if I play the same piece for a few weeks, Raymond shows me a new detail, technique, or perspective related to it so I'm always stimulated and inspired to try to practice and improve. For Raymond, music is a way of life, and he expresses all of the dedication and artistry that that fact entails. I'm always in a better mood after lessons. And so glad that I decided to try lessons with Raymond!"
