Whether you have an electric or acoustic guitar, your lessons will be tailored to you and your instrument. Guitar playing requires a knowledge of chords, melody, picking technique as well as knowing songs all of which we will begin to learn in your first lesson.

With 10+ years as a music teacher and professional musician I have picked up many approaches that will insure you are making the most progress and truly finding your musical voice.

Years of experience as a live musician and teacher. I focus on bringing out your personal voice and to acquire the necessary technique to achieve your musical goals.

I have played in bands my entire life and love teaching rock, pop, indie rock, classic rock, alt rock, and punk. I can teach beginners the basics to becoming a rock guitarist or more experienced students on how to learn music theory.

As a teacher I am very patient with students and enjoy helping them reach their own musical goals. I emphasize knowing the basics and encourage students to study music theory and basic reading of standard notation. I always ask my students to bring in songs they want to learn as a way to motivate them to practice more.

GUITAR: I expect my students to practice at least 5 days a week for at least a 1/2 hour per day. I use the Suzuki method for young students ages 8 to10. We continue learning basic folk songs by ear and then start reading standard notation and basic theory within 6 to 8 months along with classical guitar duets. For older students I use the Hal Leonard guitar method. After 3 months of lessons students can expect to know the basic open position chords and strum patterns to some basic songs as well as some famous guitar riffs and also be able to read some basic melodies in standard notation. I specialize in beginner/intermediate level basics, with rock and blues genres specifically. I focus extensively on the topics of improvisation and on developing your personal voice on the instrument, along with solid, natural technique.

I believe in growing as a guitarist not just through technical proficiency, but also in overall musicianship. My approach to learning songs is not just being able to play a song, but to understand why it works, and how you can translate the things you hear into techniques and ideas you can utilize in your own songwriting.
