As a teacher I am very patient with students and enjoy helping them reach their own musical goals. I emphasize knowing the basics and encourage students to study music theory and basic reading of standard notation. I always ask my students to bring in songs they want to learn as a way to motivate them to practice more.

GUITAR: I expect my students to practice at least 5 days a week for at least a 1/2 hour per day. I use the Suzuki method for young students ages 8 to10. We continue learning basic folk songs by ear and then start reading standard notation and basic theory within 6 to 8 months along with classical guitar duets. For older students I use the Hal Leonard guitar method. After 3 months of lessons students can expect to know the basic open position chords and strum patterns to some basic songs as well as some famous guitar riffs and also be able to read some basic melodies in standard notation. After 6 months students will be able to play a 12 bar ...

I specialize in beginner/intermediate level basics, with rock and blues genres specifically. I focus extensively on the topics of improvisation and on developing your personal voice on the instrument, along with solid, natural technique.
I believe in growing as a guitarist not just through technical proficiency, but also in overall musicianship. My approach to learning songs is not just being able to play a song, but to understand why it works, and how you can translate the things you hear into techniques and ideas you can utilize in your own songwriting.
About Rachel
I'm a guitarist based out of the Atlanta, GA area with 9+ years experience playing, teaching and performing music. My influences cover a wide spectrum, and I'm most at home playing in a blues, rock or indie style. I am currently working on a certificate in jazz guitar from Berklee College of Mu

I started taking guitar lessons with Richie having no previous experience with playing an instrument or reading music. Being left handed I was having difficulty making sense of the beginner guitar books and thought I'd give personal lessons a try.
Richie quickly taught me the basics of guitar and how to read music. Over the last 2-1/2 years he has helped me overcome my lack of rhythm, has taught me music theory, how to structure songs and techniques of soloing in various scales.
I've enjoyed getting out in my spare time and watching Richie perform in his acoustic and blues bands and have developed a new appreciation of music.
I now practice/play daily for enjoyment and only wish that my job wasn't taking me away from this area. Otherwise, I would be continuing my lessons with Richie for years to come."

I started taking guitar lessons with him since November 2012, for more than 2 years now. I was an absolute beginner with the guitar, and Jeff taught me the basics of the guitar amazingly and helped me build a strong guitar core. Jeff lets you stay a few extra minutes after the class ends, if you are "in the zone" or if you are just finishing up the lesson. He also gives great advice on the type of guitar you would be best off buying. Jeff also tells you when you need to change the strings and gives advice on fixing up the guitar should it have a problem. Also, Jeff teaches you any song you want. The genre doesn't matter - Jeff will help you master any song you wish to learn. One of the most important thing about Jeff is that he is always looking to find ways to make playing guitar easier and make it sound better. He gives little tips that greatly help you, in both playing chords or songs. He is also very patient and will always answer your questions, so don't be afraid to ask anything. Jeff also supplements his lessons with the Hal Leonard book, to help you learn how to read and play written music and he also explains what all the symbols mean.
I would highly recommend Jeff to anyone who wants to learn the guitar as he goes to great lengths to help his students in any way possible."

William has guided me through all of my shifting interests. Starting with rock/blues guitar, then a foray into classical guitar and now into jazz. He has masterfully kept an emphasis on the fundamental techniques and theory needed to support teaching me the things I'm interested in.
William never fails to judge my mood and attention span on any given day and adjust his approach accordingly. If I'm mentally exhausted, we might learn a simple but fun song. Other days he will push me to learn things I previously thought beyond my skill level.
This April, I moved cross-country and William transitioned seamlessly into giving me online lessons.
On top of that, William is a great person and I now consider him a friend as well as a teacher."

Steve is a very good and extremely patient teacher. As much as I may dislike learning theory, Steve knows how to bring it all together so that it makes sense...like a light bulb suddenly switched on in my head. All those pieces put together suddenly become songs I recognize. I highly recommend Steve to anyone wanting to learn from a very personable teacher."
