In as short as one semester, Dr. Griffeath has helped my voice tremendously. He genuinely cares about his students and works hard to understand how each one learns.
Whitney
Dr. R is a very talented vocalist who has a strong background in Alexander Technique. Combining the two makes a very sympathetic and understanding mentor. He can hear all of your tensions, including the ones you aren’t aware of. His style of teaching is a very natural approach and he will not ask you to do anything that hurts or pushes you too far. What stands out the most is his determination. He is determined to help you grow. I am very lucky to have him as an on staff professor.
Andrew
Dr. Griffeath is very approachable and highly knowledgeable. He has a great, in-depth understanding of voice and helps one to understand the processes behind every action taken in vocal lessons. He cares greatly about students’ progress, well-being, and enjoyment of the instrument. Highly recommended.

In my singing career, I have benefited tremendously from instruction by teachers who perform professionally. I want to help my students develop their vocal ability by meeting them where they are and applying the lessons I have learned from practical experience as well as from what I have been taught. My goal is to equip students with the skills so that they can develop a reliable technique that works under all situations.

In 2013, I began singing professionally in principal roles with major opera companies (with regular appearances at Dallas Opera) and as a soloist with orchestras across the United States. I was an Adler Fellow with San Francisco Opera from 2011-2012. I received my Artist Diploma in Opera Performance from the Academy of Vocal Arts, my M.M. in Voice Performance from Boston University and my B.M. in Voice Performance from Westminster Choir College.

My 9 yr. old daughter received singing lessons with Rachel. Rachel was SO wonderful, patient, and creative with every session with her. She was constantly coming up with different ways to keep her engaged and was always reassuring her to increase her confidence. She gave great constructive feedback on how my daughter was doing and what she can work on to improve. I give her 5 stars! Thanks so much, Rachel!

Overall, very impressed. She is direct and doesn't tell you something you want to hear. Her evaluation process is well rounded and planned. She puts together a great curriculum to know what to expect in the coming lessons. Very easy going person and makes you feel completely comfortable at the initial lessons.

"Jordan is very skilled in Opera, Voice, and Teaching. She at once puts you at ease and quickly empowers you with knowledge and new skills. Although it may feel like baby-steps, you can hear and feel changes in your voice almost immediately . Studying Opera Voice is a long road of very hard work, so much to remember. There is a reason 4 year degrees are offered in it. But it is well worth it for those who have the stamina."

"I can't imagine where I'd be if I had not crossed paths with Fawn. She is one talented woman. I am a coloratura soprano with a degree in vocal performance from the New England Conservatory of Music; when I met Fawn I was struggling to simply keep my head above water as I attempted to readjust to life in the city after spending several years recovering from a traumatic vocal chord injury. I had tried everything traditional Western medicine had to offer as well as several alternative healing methods but nothing was working to get me back on track towards the performing career that I wanted. Many practitioners that I had met with previously had at most a shallow understanding of the unique and very complicated physical and emotional demands of a professional operatic career and I was dispirited, hopeless and seriously considering giving up the thought of ever performing at all much less professionally again.
Since I began studying with her last summer, she has helped me find a physical and mental equilibrium that I previously thought was unattainable. In addition, I have gained an invaluable and specific practical understanding of my personal challenges and strengths as a direct result of the unique and deeply insightful ways in which she handles any problem I bring to her. In a few short months my life and outlook has changed tremendously. I had the courage to audition for and consequently booked my first professional gig since my injury, began the process of planning a production of an original composition and have been encouraged by my teacher to seriously consider singing for both national and international auditions next year. If there is a "Vocal Whisperer" Fawn is it.
To be truly understood as a performing artist (and one dealing with a vocal injury while attempting a career, is a rare and amazing experience. Not only is she amazingly well versed in several nutritional, spiritual and physical disciplines but her unique ability to adjust them into a specialized program for your specific situation and personality type make the service she offers invaluable and like nothing else I've ever experienced. Not only is she deeply empathic, compassionate, giving and sympathetic but she is also refreshingly disciplined in her ability to organize you and get to the heart of the matter. She tailors your lessons in a way that makes them easily accessible and memorable. She has the rare ability to inspire you. She never makes you feel judged, she never 'shames' you into compliance (like my other coaches did), but instead Fawn encourages and wins you over with a warm and comforting sense of humor and grace.
I am deeply grateful to have had and continue to have the opportunity to work with such an original, remarkable and talented individual. I can't recommend her highly enough and personally consider my lessons an essential part of a professional vocal career for anyone who wants to sing correctly and safely (and) stay safe, healthy, happy and sane."

8 Beautiful Opera Arias for Beginner Singers

It is always exciting when a vocal student is ready to start studying his or her first operatic aria! One of the best things about being a classical singer is knowing you have so many great years ahead of you. After all, you’re considered in your prime in your 40s. That being said, realize that the voice you have now and the repertoire you’ll first study will be very, very different from what you sing later on in your career. It’s absolutely crucial that you sing repertoire that is …
