About Melody
Are you looking to sing or play keyboard, work on material for your band, build your repertoire, sing or play in the church choir/band, audition for a production, become a better lead singer in your rock or pop band, overcome stage-fright or wanting to get to the next level? You have come to the right place!

My lessons provide students with an opportunity to deeply explore the voice, build confidence, and to develop healthy and effective singing practices, which can be applied to any style of musical singing and playing.

A well-rounded music education is very important and I have fun and educational resources for learning vocal technique, ear training, harmony, pitch matching and music theory.

I am very fortunate to have performed and studied Classical and Opera, musical theater productions, have sang in Rock, Pop, Country, R&B
bands and can bring that real-world experience into the lesson. The student will receive real hands-on knowledge about singing in a variety of environments and how to manage his/her vocal goals!

In addition to being vocally healthy, I encourage self-expression and enhance self-esteem in my students: singers of all ages, skill levels and styles. Plus, it has to be fun, otherwise why do it? Singing is a process and less about the end goal and we train the body, mind and use imagination and it's a very exciting process!

***My students regularly receive scholarships and placement in music schools and programs around the U.S., have won competitions, do well in auditions, are performing in successful bands and/or recording artists.

I am energetic and enthusiastic; actively promote values and traditional teaching practices coupled with the introduction of technology into the lesson. My experience as an educator is to share passion and talent for music with the next generation of musicians and outstanding communication skills. I really care about my students and provide the tools to help them reach their goals!

Degrees:
Bachelor of Music, minor in Psychology from Michigan State University
Master of Vocal Pedagogy from Oakland University

Here is some of my experience as a performer: I have sung Internationally at the renowned €œEisteffodd Music Festival€ in Wales, toured through Britain and performed at the Laupin Agile Cabaret in Paris. I was honored with a nomination to attend the prestigious Yale Cabaret Conference and worked with cabaret legend Julie Wilson and Manhattan Transfer founder Laurel Masse. Sung and performed roles with the Mid-Michigan and Detroit Opera Companies. Performed a production of Sleepwalkers€ with the Kari Margolis Brown Company at the O'Shaughnessy Theatre. I currently perform all over the Twin Cities with my own R&B/Soul Band, Melody and The Dramatics!€ Plus, I am a contract vocalist and perform in a variety of other projects, so needless to say, it is all a very awesome ride!

*** Lesson Details ***
My laid-back and fun approach allows for versatility and is tailored to meet the needs of the individual student. When studying the art of singing you are gaining skills, which build confidence.

When you understand what you'€™re doing and why, you bring more confidence to your performance. Progress is made with regular practice outside of lessons. Voice students record each private lesson through their devices and take notes in their own notebooks.

I have "warm-up" tracks which you can use in your car or at home and you will notice significant improvement once you start your routine.

Practicing is very important and I have great methods to teach students how to maximize their time and get the best results! I am privileged to have an opportunity to teach and very passionate about coaching a student to meet his or her musical goals!

Also, I have a Beagle named "Bacon" and he will always be very excited to see you, however he does calm down when you're in the studio. In addition, I have two cats, so please let me know if you have allergies or any special recommendations.

Thanks so much!
Melody

My job is to help you improve and help you get to where you want to go. However, this is not always an easy task much work and hard practice goes into learning how to sing correctly and/or play piano. About Zaneta
I am originally from Chicago, Illinois and now reside in the Maryland/Washington D.C. area. I started singing publicly around the age of 5 and playing piano at 9. From there I have toured overseas to various parts of Europe and across the United States. I have learned various techniques from Classical, to Gospel, to Country, to R&B, to Pop/Rock, to Musical Theatre and many more. In addition to just singing them myself I can effectively teach others the how to sing their favorite genre as well. I have taught for music and arts, Andrews Air Force base and several local music schools. I also help students preparing for college auditions, and recitals. In addition, I have experience with social media and online presence which can allow vocal singers the opportunity to sing with others and create various performance recordings. On the academi
c side of things I help tutor students in a variety of subjects and coach them to achieve better grades, and higher test scores to create an attractive college preparation portfolio.

It's Been a while!

Just had my first lesson with Zaneta and it was excellent! I felt very prepared going into this lesson, as she contacted me earlier in the week just to find out what my expectations were. The time management of our lesson was also very good. We did some warm up and got right to work. Then she gave me time to ask any questions I might have (also during the lesson if need be). Overall, this was a great experience considering it's been a while since I have attempted to train/sing with my voice.

Looking forward to upcoming lessons!!!

About Tom
I have had a varied background growing up, from being an Eagle Scout, to holding a black belt in Judo.  Growing up in Arizona and being the youngest of three boys from a very musical family, I found classical music and it became my passion. I began with piano at age 9, while also sang in many church musicals. In 2006 I graduated from Northern Arizona University with two degrees: a bachelors in vocal performance and a bachelors in piano/choral education. At NAU, I sang in many operas and piano recitals and spent three months in Germany teaching choir through the Department of Defense.Shortly after, I graduated with a masters in vocal performance from Washington University in St. Louis. The studies I learned from Wash U catapulted my love for teaching!Recently, I have been teaching out of St. John School of the Arts, where I worked with v
oice and piano students ages 7-60. All of my students had varying styles, but I was able to help them build a foundation of technique that would allow them to sing with a free and healthy tone in any style.I believe we all have the ability to create music and I can help you discover it!

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal in voice lessons is first and foremost to establish a solid vocal technique.  My philosophy is "singing is simple, but not easy!"  We will focus mostly on two things: breath and space for singing.  This method of teaching is known as "bel canto".  It helps build a strong foundation that then allows you to sing almost any style!  Because everyone is different, we will tailor a set of exercises to fit your needs and will help you build that strong foundation!  Once these principles begin to settle in, we will work on music.  I have a huge library of songs to chose from, but I highly encourage you to bring in your favorite songs. Remember, everyone is different and progresses at different rates, but don't be discouraged! This is not a race, but a life skill that you will continue to master!

In piano, I am classically trained.  Through a series of music books, we will work on music theory, finger dexterity, music history, ear training, eye/hand coordination, and pure enjoyment of making music. Again, everyone is different, but with some outside commitment, you will improve! Classical piano training is a great foundation for all other styles, such as jazz, pop, singer songwriter, country, etc. Piano also helps with in other aspects of your life such as memory, math, history, reading, etc.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a full size keyboard and music stand.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Please provide a piano, music books, music stand (if needed), and a lesson book for notes.

*** Specialties ***
I am a classically trained baritone specializing in bel canto. I have found this technique to be a great foundation for all styles of singing, from opera to pop. I am also classically trained at the piano. I focus on natural hand positions, note identification, music theory, and ear training. And I have fun doing it!

We really enjoyed having Tom as our piano teacher. He taught 3 of my kids for 4 years till he moved 😥. He taught them technic, theory and also let my kids choose some fun songs that they wanted to play. He made sure the kids were having fun even though they did have to practice and played some classical songs. My kids have improved alot since they started taking too!

Olga was announced the Best Leading Female Singer in North East in season 2006-2007 by Opera Online.
A native of Russia, she appeared on the stages of the Bolshoi Opera (Maria in Mazeppa, Prilepa in Pique Dame, Brigitta in Iolanta, Anne Trulove in The Rake’s Progress, Musetta in La Boheme, to name a few), Kazan Opera Theater (Mimi in La Boheme), Stanislavsky Opera Theater (Micaela in Carmen), and Malmo Opera Theater in Sweden (Musetta) before emigrating to the U.S.A., where she appeared with Hawaii Opera Teater as Mimi in La Boheme, San Francisco Lyric Opera in title role of Aida, West Bay Opera and DiCapo Opera in New York in the title role of Manon Lescaut, Opera San Jose and Illinois Opera Theater as Tosca, and with Cedar Rapids Opera, Gold Coast Opera,Golden Gate Opera and Opera North as Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly, with San Francisco Opera Merola Program and Tampa Opera as Musetta in La Boheme. In my almost twenty-five years of teaching experience, I have taught a wide range of students in age and levels: from high school to college, professional, adult and avocational. Because of this, I have the ability to teach each student based on their own individual needs. As a result, I have enjoyed a wonderful rapport with all my students, since I make them comfortable and help them feel a difference in their singing from the very first lesson. This way, there is an atmosphere of trust and ease so that students are free enough to explore and ask questions. Something that is an important part of my teaching is simplifying and clarifying the basics. Being able to grasp a concept is a confidence builder for students. Then, they can thrive and approach their practice sessions with joy. Therefore, they continue to make progress and are proud of the work they do. Most importantly, I like to create a positive and productive environment for the learning process, so that my students can ...

As someone who learns best by doing, I encourage my students to experiment while I guide them and help them to understand their instruments in a more organic, personal way than more "Old World" singers. I have a background in opera, musical theatre, and rock/pop vocals for 10+ years, so I can offer a broad perspective on singing that bridges these gaps on a technical level.

About Nick
I'm a tenor from the southwestern Virginia area with a passion for all things music. I've been in music for nearly two decades; I toured with a rock band along the east coast, I sang with Josh Groban, and I've been performing as a choir member and soloist regularly for years. Music is a tremendous source of joy in my life, so I make sure it is the same for my students; studying music can become a chore, but enjoying music never gets old.
