Modern guitar music is often filled with heavy effects that mask the natural tone of the instrument.
A well played acoustic guitar can blend into any musical environment. Bluegrass, Folk, Jazz, Blues, Funk, Rock, and Metal, or any cutural/ world musc. And yet, it's an instrument which needs no accompaniment.
Make your guitar sing by learning good technique, creative rhythmic picking and strumming, and unique chord voicings. Develop sight reading, improvisation, and composition. Within just a few lessons, you can expect results in learning a song of your choice, and understanding the songwriting choices made by your favorite artists.

My methods vary from student to student. I focus primarily on ear training, applications of chord construction to learning solo's, songs, and chords, and reading guitar tablature when a student is lost. I believe guitar is an especially creative instrument and do NOT focus on reading sheet music as a part of the student's learning experience. An emphasis is also placed on performance as well as proper technique to avoid injuries. Listening to music is an extra-curricular activity that should be done every day with a special emphasis on hearing what the 'greats' do with a magnificent piece of wood in their hands.

About Greg

I have been playing guitar for over 14 years, played in four different gigging bands ranging from country to jazz to improvisational funk. I taught music theory, guitar, and bass at M.E.A. Music in Lexington Park, Maryland for 3 years and currently teach and manage at the School of Rock in Arnold.

"My lesson was very rewarding - excellent instructor , if you have a question he has an answer . He knows the guitar - Mr. Tomas makes you feel at ease , I was having a problem with my short fingers . He told me all the things that I was not doing correct and this was my first lesson - He made me feel really good when I did something right .

I have known Mr . Tomas for a short period of time and believe me if he can teach me and I am 70 years old and I have tired taking lessons before and they never worked out . Mr . Tomas is the person to go with ."

"Kevin is an amazing guitar instructor. As a 20 year elementary teacher, I see great teacher qualities in Kevin. He is not just teaching guitar skills, he is teaching learning strategies as well. He was honest on the type of guitar needed for my daughter to play with more success and is always enthusiastic and full of constructive suggestions. My daughter's eyes sparkle during her 30 minutes with Kevin. I also love the emails he sends to explain her lessons and what she is to practice at home."
