Hi, I'm Zak! I'm guessing you're here because you love singing. Well, so do I!

Small world.

I've played piano on Broadway for Wicked, Mean Girls, Motown, and The Color Purple, and have vocally coached multiple Broadway actors. What makes singing lessons with me unique is that I am also a vocal coach. I focus not only on healthy technique and exciting repertoire; I also focus on Acting While Singing. This is a skill that often falls by the wayside - we act until the song starts, then just stand there singing. I've heard many top directors say they'd rather cast an actor who sings than a singer who acts (meaning, they prefer acting talent to singing talent). Acting While Singing is what takes a performance to the next level. Like Lin-Manuel Miranda in Hamilton and In The Heights, and Ben Platt in Dear Evan Hansen, truly transformative performances come about because the actor is so fused with the character that we can't tell who is who.

Please reach out if you're curious to learn ...

Zak was very helpful in teaching our daughter to read music, learning songs that interested her, and getting her interested in writing songs! He was engaging, patient, kind, and encouraging during every lesson. Zak even helped her relax emotionally during the pandemic!

Working with Zak is an absolute joy! Zak is very attentive, clear, and supportive through it all. Anybody would be lucky to have him as a vocal coach, not only for the improvement and growth he helps provide, but the mutual celebration when I finally “nailed it”. Definitely take lessons with Zak if you want a fun, productive, and caring work environment.

I have a unique approach to voice in that I want all of my students to be able to sing in any style. I have been exploring vocal anatomy for a few years now to answer a question that has always fascinated me: how does a pop singer create a different sound than an opera singer or a jazz singer? The answer is vocal anatomy. Whether we realize it or not, all voice lessons really do is teach us how to move around our vocal apparatus in an effective manner.
I don't believe in wasting lesson time with extensive warm ups. I would so much rather have more time to teach you the content you need to become a successful singer. The other thing that is unique about my lessons is that we do not spend the whole time singing. Just like you wouldn't pick up an instrument and just start playing, singing without the knowledge of how our voice works is not time effective. I know this may sound strange, but my students are always amazed at how quickly they progress. A little knowledge goes a long way.

I needed some help preparing for an audition for my school’s musical. Ally helped me with singing and the audition itself. It is so great to have a teacher who knows a lot about singing and theatre in general. I loved singing with her so much that I took lessons again after the audition. She is so great!!

All my three kids have enjoyed piano lessons with Marty. The oldest for more than two years! We are moving out of the country, so unfortunately we have to leave her; I wish we could take her with us! She is such a dedicated teacher. My kids have learned so much from her, not only playing the piano but also music theory. She is also flexible in scheduling, so we could always find a time that worked well for our busy family schedule. We will miss her!

I've been learning piano with Linda for a few weeks now and I feel I have a greater understanding for music theory already! She has an immense passion for music and easily translates it into her lessons.
She Is very patient and will work at your pace; a trait I did not find in my previous teachers. I absolutely recommend you at least sign up for her free consultation - you have nothing lose!

Linda is a great voice teacher who is very kind and engaging. I have learned a lot from her about how to use my voice, technique, and am improving every week as a singer. Our lessons are fun and I feel respected as a non-binary student. Linda creates a warm and welcoming space for everyone to feel comfortable as they learn about their voice.

"I thought as a theatre teacher that I didn't have much more to learn. I was wrong. Vandi has given me the confidence to sing. I hid in the altos for years and she helped me find the wider range I was seeking. She includes great visualizations in her lessons which helps a visual learner like me. I have the confidence to trust my breath and sing in ways I never thought possible. She is a wonderful teacher. Take lessons from her!"

"I absolutely loved working with Jameson. The greatest skill I gained from his lessons was confidence in my voice. I felt that he really wanted to get to know me, my voice, and my goals in singing. I primarily went to him for help on musical theater auditions, and after working with him, I began getting more callbacks. He coached me on my singing, as well as how to be more expressive in my singing. His energy and enthusiasm made me comfortable to try things like belting higher or attempting riffs, expanding my skills as a singer. In lessons, Jameson combines professional training and technique with personal tips, making each lesson more effective and memorable. His enthusiasm makes every lesson both fun and worthwhile. His critiques are always paired with genuine encouragement. For new or experienced singers, Jameson has valuable insight."
