First thing I do before first day of class is send out a welcoming greeting via email and call a few days before first lesson. We Briefly discuss and establishing the learning goals for the course based on the visual literacy, technical, and intellectual competencies the students should achieve by the end of a period is ideal for me to design the course or update an existing course for the student's desired outcomes. The syllabus and the schedule are completed along with a comprehensive strategy for what will take place during class. Music lessons include: warm ups, exercises, technical and theory work, solfeggio (sight-singing), ear training, repertoire musical coaching, composition writing, preparation for performances and more.

Hello!,

Our lessons will be relaxed and fun. I take pride in tailoring my curriculum to the needs and goals of each individual student- This helps me make sure that you are learning at a pace that feels comfortable for you, yet challenging.

We will work together to develop both your musicianship and creativity. I am a firm believer in music being a healing and mind-opening practice. One of my primary goals while teaching is to give my students an outlet to express themselves in a healthy and meaningful way. Let's get started!

Topics we can focus on together:
- Theory
- Improvisation
- Strumming/finger-picking patterns
- How to sing and play at the same time
- Songwriting/Recording techniques
- Lyric Writing
- Stage Presence
- Exploring different musical genres

Every student will desire something different out of their lessons. I constantly encourage students to realize what their ultimate goal is in regards to the guitar. Every student has a different goal and therefore everyone will have a different route in learning the guitar. For example, a student seeking admission into a top level conservatory will need a vastly different route than an adult whom is taking lessons as enjoyable past-time hobby.

My job as a teacher is to prescribe learning materials that will increase a student’s awareness to reach his or her own goals. Natural technical ability of dexterity, flexibility and strength can be developed over time and a general understanding of musicianship can be learned. However, I always try to explain the importance of these elements in relation to reaching a student’s final goal.

Students most often take music lessons for enjoyment and as a past time and therefore a student's enjoyment from playing music is perhaps the most ...

I have performed on and taught acoustic guitar for nearly 20 years.

I know hundreds of songs so I can always find songs which make beginners into players quickly.

About David

I grew up in Birmingham, AL, Boston, MA, and Cleveland, OH, and was classically trained on violin in all three cities by members of their respective orchestras. I began studying theory in 7th grade at The Alabama School of Fine Arts. I continued theory lessons while in Boston at the New England Co

Teaching guitar lessons is something I’m particularly passionate about. I still recall the feeling I had the first time my dad put a guitar in my lap and taught me to play "Sweet Home Alabama" at the early age of seven. My ultimate desire is that my students would have a similar type of musical experience through my teaching.

Are you tired of not being able to play YOUR songs? Want to learn the basics of tone, pedals, effects, amps, etc.? Want to learn to play something other than Wagon Wheel? Hit me up!

What you will learn:

1. Scales, chords, improv
2. Rock, country, blues, jazz
3. How to play YOUR songs MUSICALLY

Unfortunately we had only 1 lesson and then were informed the night before our second lesson that the teacher is canceling because it's too far for her to travel. We had already purchased materials she recommended and paid fees to takelessons.com which we have been told are not refundable. This is terrible service. The teacher signed up for lessons knowing what our address was so she could have simply checked her travel time before agreeing. Now we have wasted a lot of our own time and money. I am hesitant to use takelessons again because of the customer service I have received. Why should I pay a placement fee if an instructor can cancel after just one lesson.
