Singing is the ultimate journey of authentic expression! It's not something you have or don't have- like anything there is just technique and practice. I teach using the principles of Bel Canto singing and Somatic Voicework, which just means that I have a classical foundation (that's what I study/do), but have a passion for all styles and can teach all styles! The voice is a holistic instrument, a combination of the body, heart, mind, and spirit of every person, and I always approach it with that in mind. My goal is to give everyone the tools to use their voice how they want to use it, and guide them to a healthy, efficient, optimal, authentic sound that is their true inner voice. Headed into my Masters degree in Classical Vocal performance, I love teaching all levels and backgrounds!

I worked with Michelle for a little over 2 years. As an adult student, I was super nervous about singing in front of anyone - it took me this long to just sign up for lessons! She was patient with me and gave me lots of tools for dealing with my nerves and stage fright. Michelle helped me to choose songs that I not only wanted to sing but that matched my voice and range. I was hesitant about performing in a recital but Michelle pointed out that it was like training for a marathon - doing all the work but not performing just seemed silly. It wasn't perfect but it was definitely something I'm proud to have crossed off my bucket list.

I focus on technique versus a song. When you sign up with me, I will show you how to sing and how this can carry over into anything you do forward. Opera is an amazing art form; the human voice can be so focused that it can carry over an entire orchestra with no amplification. Whether you aspire to this art form or not, it is great to learn how to support and project your voice and to keep it healthy for a lifetime of singing enjoyment.
I recommend adults take from 45 minutes to 1 hour lessons weekly for skill building. The price of lessons DECREASES by 10% after each 5 lesson purchased for the first 15 lessons.

About Julia

I have a Master’s in Opera Performance from the Boston and New England Conservatories as well as graduating from Vocal Performance programs at Boston University and Western Washington University. My daughter has learned so much with Julia in the past few weeks. It's been a true pleasure to witness the progress. They have worked on sight reading, tone, physical posture, and many other aspects of singing and sound production. Julia is a very caring and supportive instructor. She is full of enthusiasm and humor, and this shows in her choice of singing materials. We look forward to having more lessons with her!

Online one lesson in so far, but Julia seems to be a very talented and patient instructor for children.

"I just signed up with Asuka a few weeks ago while she was traveling internationally for her performance. Because she was away, we did online lessons. At first I was skeptical because of the time difference and the quality etc. but she has very much experience not only teaching, but with online lessons. My son has an international singing competition coming up and Asuka is not only preparing him for the competition, but also for what expect from judges and how to mentally perceive the performance. Although she travels and maintains her successful career, she is able to put everyone ounce of her expertise into helping my son from where ever she is. When she came back to NYC she also worked personally with him as well. She is the best teacher and vocal coach we have had to date."

"I really love taking voice lessons with Asuka-sensei! It's a lot of fun, and I can tell that she listens very well because she immediately helps me with the areas I struggle with - whenever I come across them in the music. I really appreciate the way she coaches voice exercises, and I think they have immensely helped me get a better tone and sound. 8 Beautiful Opera Arias for Beginner Singers

It is always exciting when a vocal student is ready to start studying his or her first operatic aria! One of the best things about being a classical singer is knowing you have so many great years ahead of you. After all, you’re considered in your prime in your 40s. That being said, realize that the voice you have now and the repertoire you’ll first study will be very, very different from what you sing later on in your career. It’s absolutely crucial that you sing repertoire that is …
