I have been teaching all levels and styles of acoustic guitar for over 20 years. Beginners usually start with my instruction book, So You Want to Learn How to Play Guitar? You will start playing songs from your 1st lesson. For students who already play, I do an assessment of your experience and skills and design a plan based on this and the type of music you want to learn. I specialize in Country Acoustic Blues, finger-picking, flat picking, and slide. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

I started learning guitar on my own. I got some CD’s. It got me started. However, I wasn’t progressing. I looked for an instructor in my area and Brian Gross came up in my search engine. I was very frustrated at first but Brian assured me it takes time and practice. It’s the little things that he teaches you that makes all the difference. If you listen to what he tells you and apply it you will amazed. Great musician, great teacher.

Brian is a wonderful, fun, and very supportive guitar teacher. He encourages students like me to practice and learn, and he gives very positive and tailored instruction. He allows his students to choose the style of music that they want to learn, and he offers the easiest and most straightforward way to learn it. He prepares his lessons very well, and it is always a joy to see his cheerful face. Even someone like me who sometimes fumbles around with the strings can feel comfortable in his great manner of teaching. I find that I have learned quite a bit in a very short amount of time, even with my busy work schedule. The guitar exercises that he gives us are fun to do and so effective. I highly recommend him as a guitar teacher, and I look forward to many more lessons with him.

Mark has been a great teacher for this adult beginner! I take lessons in clawhammer banjo and ukulele with him, and his easy-going nature and skill in identifying ways to improve make it a joyful experience! Highly recommend.

Mr. Sylvester is one of the greatest. He is not just an amazing guitarist, but he is also very kind. He treats people with so much respect. He speaks to me and my mom so nicely. He is very patient. He has a deep knowledge of music and knows how to get the most out of even the least talented people (like me!). He doesn't ever get mad if you make a mistake or forget to bring your music notes. We were so lucky to find Mr. Sylvester.

Mark is a talented musician who plays and teaches multiple stringed instruments. His lessons are always informative and supportive. They are driven by the student’s interest, so anything you want o learn— styles of music, how to do a particular technique, music theory— you can bring to class. And every now and then he organizes a recital— terrifying but great practice!

All of my current students have developed confidence and enthusiasm to learn all materials presented in an easy to comprehend format.

Each student learns at different levels so all lessons are customized to challenge them but also insure they learn and retain all materials presented to them.

Currently have 16 students ranging from beginners to advanced level.
When selecting a teacher, make arrangements to meet in person to review short and long term goals of learning a musical instrument. Pricing should only be used as the last criteria before making a final decision. It's important to insure your instructor is patient and willing to challenge students to setup a practice routine that will fit their current schedule.

If a student needs an instrument, have instructor give recommendations based on the musical styles they are interested in learning.

Students often ask how long it will take to learn to play a Guitar.

About Alejandro

Alejandro is a marvelous teacher of music, the guitar specifically, to my 3 grandchildren every Saturday and now for getting onto a year. They love it and are learning ever so much! He is a most talented musician, himself, and has a way of transferring all of that to the 2 boys and my granddaughter. He is reliable and punctual and a treasure to have the opportunity to have him teach the children. I studied the piano for 15 years when I was young, so know a lot of what I speak

About Ian

I started playing guitar originally in 1991. I picked up bass and ukulele (and then over the ensuing years, gradually a plethora of other instruments, such as voice, drums, piano, and harp). I have taken guitar lessons in the past and wanted to revisit one of my passions again. I decided to take lessons with Ian since he is in my neighborhood and I’m really glad I did. Ian has been very patient and attentive to my learning style. As our lessons have progressed so has the direction of each class. It’s really cool to see how all the concepts we have gone over build on each other. I feel like Ian really goes above and beyond to learn about his students and what they are hoping to achieve. Ian has also been very flexible with my work schedule. After several months of lessons with Ian I can say I’ve learned several things from finger picking, timing, and reading notes. I can’t wait to continue my journey!

I wish I could leave a review on his teaching but unfortunately, I couldn't even experience his teaching prowess. I gifted 5 in-home guitar lessons to my fiance as a birthday present. After speaking to Takelesson representatives I was told that we were in Ian's in home radius. Ian did not teach my fiance because he did not find "parking", which felt like a little bit of an unreasonable answer. When my fiance asked to be taught on weekdays he declined that too and instead offered online classes. The point of in-home is flexibility and 1:1 attention and we were disappointed that we could not have that opportunity due to how unaccommodating it felt. Would like to leave feedback to both Ian and Takelessons to include these nuances as customers are often really excited only to be let down.

Ian is an incredible teacher. Very patient and professional. The way he teaches is very straight forward and easy to understand. I can’t wait to learn more & more... less than a week has passed since my lesson. I already feel so comfortable with my ukulele,
All the utube lessons were useless for me. I realized this after 1 lesson with Ian. The frustration factor on utube was a waste of time for me. I am so happy I chose ian & this company.
Thank you so much, jen

Abraham is one of the best instructors I've ever had. Abraham is patient, willing to listen, and able to breakdown complex concepts into simpler ones to make it easier to understand. Having a good guitar teacher is more than just knowing how to play the guitar well - it's more about being able to understand the students needs and tailoring the lesson in the most efficient way for them - and Abraham does just that. We make the most out of the 45 minutes we have and I always walk away learning a lot each and every lesson. At this rate I am going to learn a lot quicker than I thought and it's all thanks to Abraham! I highly recommend him.

"Worked with Chris for the last 9 months weekly, I was a complete beginner on Acoustic only having a small background on Bass 20 years ago. Chris came in with a formal plan that incorporated the important foundation concepts and practice strategies, all while ensuring that we used music that kept my interest in keep up my playing. He was very flexible, sometimes we jammed, sometimes we focused on concepts and technique - it was all dependent on the mood of the week, but he always came prepared for both. I *highly* recommend Chris, I look forward to continuing our relationship in the future."

"I used to play some guitar when I was young, but I had never taken any lessons. When I played with other guitarists, mostly in church settings, I would play simple cords and let the other guitarists cover up my mistakes. Now that I am 60 years old, I decided to make an effort at really learning how to play. I have only been taking lessons for 2 months, but Alex has been a great choice of instructors. He is familiar with the main type of music I like to play, contemporary worship music, and also is knowledgeable about Irish / Celtic music which I also love. He offers very helpful suggestions and instruction, and is very patient with the fact that I am 60 years old, and much of this, especially guitar tablature, is like learning a new language. Each lesson has some more insights and instruction to help me become a better player. I would recommend Alex to anyone looking for an instructor."

"I've had lessons with Jimmy for a year. I didn't talk with him as much during our lessons in the beginning but soon, I was able to laugh and really start talking with him. As a teacher, Jimmy makes sure that you're comfortable learning with him from day 1. He slowly eases into the learning of music theory and how the guitar works. He makes sure that you stay interested while learning what's necessary about music. You can tell that he has a enormous passion for music, that he's even made mine evolve to the point where not only am I learning how to play the guitar, but singing as well! Having learned from him, I was able to stay relaxed and comfortable. He makes sure to understand the way you learn and uses it to help drive your passion to the right direction. Learning from him was one of the best choices I've made. And choosing him as your teacher will be one of the greatest experiences you'll have!"
