He graduated with highest honors in flamenco guitar performance from the Fundacion Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco (Seville, Spain). While living in Spain for 3 years Diego Alonso performed flamenco guitar 2-4 nights a week and toured with some of flamenco's top performed. His extensive training and experience in flamenco guitar make him a highly qualified teacher in the field.
He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Research Psychology and focuses on applying the psychology of learning, skill acquisition, and expertise to learning guitar. With this
Lessons are based on time-tested methods in guitar pedagogy as well as on up-to-date scientific research in the neurological and psychological processes of skill acquisition and expertise. Key concepts you will learn to incorporate into your practice are "deliberate practice," "spaced practice," "interleaved practice," "performance practice," "mental practice," "conceptual practice," and more. My goal, as a teacher, is to help students learn to practice effectively and efficiently in order to develop the neurological pathways necessary to form, improve, and maintain high-level, musical skills.
CAN ANYONE LEARN GUITAR?
Absolutely! I accept students at any experience level. Whether you've never touched a guitar before our first lesson, have been playing for a few years, or have your Master's degree in guitar performance, I can and will help you achieve your goals (so long as you do your homework).
WHAT KIND OF GUITAR DO YOU NEED?
For flamenco or classical lessons, you will need a nylon-string guitar (e.g., classical or flamenco), NOT a steel string guitar. If you don't own a nylon-string guitar, you can certainly rent one, but it must be available to you for home practice AT LEAST 6 days/week.
CAN YOU GUARANTEE RESULTS?
YES! If you follow my instruction and practice plan, I can certainly guarantee results!
Consistent and correct practice are the keys to success. The more consistent you are and the more correctly you practice, the sooner you'll reach your goals. This requires you to commit to practicing 6 days/week for an absolute minimum of 20 minutes/day up to a maximum of 3.5 hours/day; NO EXCEPTIONS! Again, you also MUST be practicing CORRECTLY. I'll show you how, but if you aren't practicing this way and are not consistent with your practice plan, I cannot guarantee results.

My primary Classical Guitar Instructor at both institutions was Paul Henry. I also studied Rock Guitar with Dave Uhrich while attending both institutions and privately studied Jazz Guitar with Scott Reed. *** Lesson Details ***
I design lessons individually according to the needs and "wants" of each student. I specialize in developing and correcting technique to improve the student's overall skill. Students that dedicate the time and effort each week to practicing see rapid and sustained results.
However, if you have a busy life and merely want to learn guitar for personal enjoyment, I will design your lessons to develop your skill at a pace that works for you, which can fluctuate according to your schedule.
***Young & Special Needs Students***
I currently teach children as young as 13 years old and adults of any age. When teaching younger children and individuals with special needs, it is significantly beneficial for parents to attend each lesson - I have parent seating available. When parents attend lessons, the parent can assist the younger student while practicing during the week at home.
In my experience, the overall musical development and progress of younger students improve at an increased rate and thoroughness when parents are involved.
***Thoughts on Musical Talent***
Musical talent is a gift. However, correct technique is not easily acquired without proper instruction. Your skill level eventually plateaus, and your ability to learn and perform more complicated music is inhibited unless you have a solid foundation in music theory as it applies to your instrument(s) as well as proper technique.
I can help you build this solid foundation and will guide you through the development of musical skills; correcting flaws in technique is my specialty.
