My promise to students--if they follow my advice, they will be successful! Cello lessons with me are informative, productive, and geared toward empowering the student's knowledge of the cello. I also encourage students when faced with a problem to slow down, think about what they are doing physically and change their approach if needed.

He is an awesome tutor, and I learn a lot from this lesson. Unlike my previous tutor, he uses his cello to demonstrate things. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to improve at playing the cello.

I am a passionate, energetic, humorous, patient cello instructor. I have been teaching since 2008. Within these years, I taught the private lesson, group lesson, music theory and studio class of all ages and all levels. One of my ten years old student got the highest score of the Asian-Pacific Region in Grade two cello exam of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music only after one year learning from me. I have abundant experiences for helping students not only learning music and cello but also enjoying lots of fun from it. I also helped my students for preparing their solo recitals, summer festival auditions, competitions, and performing arts high school auditions. I am sure you will fully in love with the sound you make after learning from me. Let me help you to accomplish your aspirations.

"Stephen is not only a gifted cellist, but also an intuitive and devoted teacher. I've been working with him online for several years now, and my playing has benefitted significantly from his technical expertise and understanding of historical contexts. Few teachers are as ready and willing to explore repertoire as eclectic as I have with Stephen, whose insight extends from the ancient to the contemporary. I attribute my success on NYSSMA/All-State to his wise musical counsel!"

"I just had my third lesson with Ying. Being an adult student, I think it's common for people like me to tend to skip ahead and just dive into cello playing head on. Ying was great in picking up things that I was doing incorrectly like for example, my finger strength, need to cut nails (yes, embarassing as that sounds, it did happen!), my posture, the angle of both my hands, and how there seems to be too much tension with both my arms. It's surprising to me because this is online and only via a webcam. I'm pretty sure face-to-face will be a great help especially correcting my angles and postures, but Ying seems to be maximizing what she can teach online."

"Rob is very knowledgable with regard to the cello--he and my 16 year old son hit it off immediately! He asked my son what he wanted to work on and then they spent the next 45 minutes working on those things. After the lesson, we worked out a continuing schedule of classes for the next few months. We are very happy with Rob as a tutor for my son and equally happy with TakeLessons!"

"I took lessons from Maria for 6 years, starting the summer just before I entered high school. Initially I was embarrassed because I knew most kids learning an instrument had started years before me, and I hadn't had any experience with reading sheet music or anything like that.

But she never held any preconceived notions about where my ability *should* be, which helped me feel comfortable learning the cello for fun, which was why I was taking lessons. And Maria was always patient working with me on whatever little part of a piece I struggled with week after week until I got it. She let me self direct how I wanted to learn, so I didn't spend as much time memorizing music theory and was able to learn through playing, which worked well for me.

While taking lessons through high school and part of college, I had a lot of difficult classes and sometimes had to sacrifice my short-term cello progress to make time for them. I always felt bad when this happened, but Maria understood and once the air cleared I was always excited to catch up to where I wanted to be.

Cello was always something kind of meditative where I could make something beautiful by putting in time, and I don't think I would enjoy playing now if I hadn't had the warm guidance of such a great teacher on my journey through the music world."

"I originally learned how to play the cello on my own in my school's orchestra. When I went to college and decided to bring my cello with me, I knew it was time to take proper lessons like everyone else. Brenda was able to help me iron out all of the bad habits I had developed over seven years of playing cello with no formal corrections. She clearly cared about me and my interests as a student. I can confidently say Brenda equipped me with the tools, techniques, and attitude I needed to play the cello for the rest of my life."

"Ilona is one of the best teachers I had so far. I have fun with her learning cello.

I learned a lot with her and enjoy playing with her duets on the violin. Because of her I got into Gold Cost Youth Orchestra where I met one of her violin students Sharri. She encouraged me to stay focused on my playing and to perform chamber music with her. Very well organized teacher, I will recommend her for any age."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification.
