I have been teaching Opera voice since I graduated from Roosevelt and it's been a long and fun journey. I am always happy to coach classical repertoire as it has a special place in my heart. I even used to run an Opera on Tap, a monthly event for young talented singers and also have some great connections in Chicago classical music scene.

About Val
My name is Val Kuznetsov and I am an expert in teaching voice. I have been enjoying helping singers and musicians for over 15 years and so very proud to have clients who have already climbed to #1 on Billboard charts and are successfully developing their careers with major labels such as Columbia Records and Warner Brothers.

Besides teaching voice, I have an extensive expertise in instructing piano, music theory and ear training. I also teach sound production at Harold Washington College, and have experience in orchestration and arrangement using a variety of software like Pro Tools, Cubase, etc... I work with a variety of domestic and international talents, composers, musicians and bands, and help them to further their projects to the new heights.

My teaching philosophy is based upon an individual approach. I assist my students w
ith discovering their artistic potential and guide them to overcome obstacles to make the most of their training. I provide my students with the technique that would last them a lifetime and build up skills that are necessary for a successful career.

I have established connections in the music industry and keep expanding my networks, so that I can best help my students to find the best platforms for further development of their careers.

I welcome motivated students who would dedicate their focus on polishing their craft to the highest standard in a great learning environment! So, whether you are an experienced musician or just in the beginning of your educational journey, I perhaps, can help you to advance you potentials and/or bring your skills to the next level!

I am currently based in Chicago, but I have coached and performed in the past in Moscow, Paris, Barcelona, Dubai and New York. I base my technical approach in classical school, while effectively applying it to a wide variety of musical genres including Pop, R&B, JAZZ, Rock, Musical Theatre, and Gospel.

Val is amazing! He helped me achieve breath control and resonance with voice drills. He is a wizard on the piano - can transcribe any song into different keys. Lastly he is an encouraging coach and tutor and can help you get to the next level if you want it. I highly recommend.

Bel canto instruction and technique with a clear outline of warm up techniques using Kristin Linklater techniques. I am a classically trained singer, familiar with the repertoire, as well as diction in Italian, French, German and Latin. The goal is utter freedom and beauty of the voice, enabling you to express the scope of contemporary and classical composers.

About Wendy
I am a professional singer, songwriter and actor working in the Chicago area for many years. I have a B.F.A. in Theater/Voice from The University of Kansas and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago. I've been teaching private vocal instruction since 2003: I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, a unique and supportive venue for singer's to become more comfortable performing before an audience. I also instruct workshops for vocal technique and performance. For 10 years I was the lead singer for The Red Apples, an acoustic/electric roots band that performed an eclectic mix of rock, swing, blues, country and jazz. Within the past year I have re-energized my theater and cabaret career, appearing at Davenport's Cabaret, in a new solo show, as well as productions at Big Noise Theater and Stage 773. I've also completed tw
o short films and started working on my own web series, about my life as a singer/voice teacher. I also have an art song project consisting of original material with composer Jaroslaw Golembiowski. As a singer and actress I have performed with many major theaters in the Chicago area, including Court Theater, Victory Gardens, National Jewish Theater, Bailiwick Theater, and Prop Theater.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a classically trained singer I will instruct you in all aspects of singing technique, from breath control and support to improving your tone, range, flexibility and resonance. I have recently completed training in Somatic Voicework, The LoVetri Method, which has enriched my understanding of the mechanics and health of the voice, as well as applications of technique to CCM or contemporary musical styles of singing.
My familiarity with a variety of musical styles from pop/rock, R&B, and country, to musical theater, lounge and jazz makes me an ideal teacher for those interested in contemporary styles.

I have spent many years developing my own style of singing and instruction. I draw on my experiences and training not only in music, but theater and movement, (Linklater, Alexander Technique, Grotowski) to create a well rounded approach to singing and performing. As an instructor, I am most interested in helping students find their true voice and artistic style. I teach students to find expression through and with a foundation of technique, rather then in spite of it. I also am very interested in helping students deal with the mental/emotional aspects of performance, an all important area so frequently ignored by music teachers. My style is nurturing, yet disciplined, and sprinkled liberally with good-natured humor."

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio space is fully equipped with a piano, P.A. system with microphones, CD, MP3 player for tracks, and ability to record lessons if the student desires.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Please have a piano (in tune!) or keyboard for use in your in home lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I am classically trained, but I am very adept at teaching music in a wide variety of styles, including most contemporary styles of music including pop/rock, roots, swing, jazz and blues, country, r&b, and of course musical theater and cabaret. My band performs an eclectic mix of originals and covers in the roots rock genre, and I write music as well. I have many years of experience in the theater as an actress, and I coach acting technique and performance. I coach singer/songwriters, and all types of singers, of all ages. I have a workshop that specializes in helping people learn to perform better in front of an audience, and I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, which is a supportive opportunity to perform regularly! I also coach bands, to improve their vocals, harmonies, etc.

About Kimberly
I have taught voice lessons for about 10 years to children and adults of all ages, abilities, and musical tastes. Kim was my singing teacher for a few months before I went to college. As an excellent and knowledgeable singer herself, she always had the right input and guidance on anything I wanted to sing. Lessons felt self guided and relaxed, which helped me come out of my shell to do my own performances.

Both of my daughters, one of which has Asperger's, really enjoyed taking singing lessons with Kimberly over the past one and one-half years, and I would highly recommend her. They each received individualized lessons plus were provided immediate feedback and encouragement. I never heard a "do I have to go" when it came time for their lessons which says allot, especially in the summer when I often hear this about other things.

I have a M.M. in vocal performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and have extensive operatic training. I teach an open throat technique (appoggio) that allows the singer to sing with freedom, and access their entire range evenly. I also work with students to develop style, interpretation, languages, and acting ability.

About Benjamin
I have extensively studied vocal performance for many years and continue to add to my own technique. I have a Master of Vocal Performance Degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. I currently work for a recording studio (Sound Summit Studios in Naperville IL) where I teach voice and help singers record their music in the studio. I have previously taught at The School of Rock in Indianapolis Indiana. I have administered vocal lessons to every voice type at all different levels. Several of my students have recored albums and are currently performing all over the U.S.

I have a bachelors degree in biology with a minor in art. After graduating college, I was a full-time high school biology teacher, volleyball coach, and director of the school musical. As a high school teacher, I learned first hand the kind of pressure and expectat
ions that are placed on students in order for them to succeed. In college, I was the head student researcher on a two-year lab project. I took several upper level science courses including: biochemistry, calculus, organic chemistry, calculus based physics, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology. I studied marine biology in the Virgin Islands and am CPR certified.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice lessons with me are fun and effective. You can expect to hear improved technique from day one, eventually reaching your long term goals. I begin every lesson aligning the students voice through various vocal warm ups and exercises. We then work together to pick repertoire that will suit the singer'€™s voice and they will enjoy singing. During a lesson we will also cover performance presentation, acting, diction, rhythm, musicality, style, and interpretation.

During tutoring you can expect a personalized plan based on your goals and aspirations. Since every student is different you can be assured we will come up with a plan that is designed just for you. I am a laid back tutor but will be sure to get the most out of you after our time together. Most students see at least a one letter grade improvement. My main goal for every tutoring session is student learning and comprehension.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, recording equipment, large collection of sheet music

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in helping students find their true singing voice.

I emphasize classical technique from a physical perspective, and lessons are sometimes a body awareness workout. Read my profile carefully before you sign up with me. Through this physical approach, we discover what the student's voice truly is, instead of attempting to mimic popular artists.

Opera Voice lessons are the same as Classical Voice lessons, but emphasizing power, endurance, and opera repertoire.

Prospective Singing students of all levels MUST read the section Your First Singing Lesson, found on the subject page.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Singing is good for you. Healthy reasons to take singing lessons include deep breathing, balanced posture, relaxation, and abdominal strength. Additional benefits are confidence enhancement, cultural awareness, emotional expression, memory support, and stress relief. Some people sing to share spiritual joy.

/// Your First Singing Lesson \\\

About Melodie
Student GOALS
(1) Student learns how other artists use music to communicate, advocate, heal, and grow.
(2) Student learns how to use music for self-discovery of artistic aims.
(3) Singing student learns how own body functions as a musical instrument, on a flexible schedule.

I am Miss Melodie F, a highly experienced private lesson teacher of voice, piano, and theory. Please read my profile carefully before you sign up with me. Complete beginners are welcome. Advanced lessons are available for singing and voice only.

Are you an adult who misses the love of music you enjoyed before life responsibilities took over? If so, you are like most of my recent students.

I teach adult students private music lessons. My specialties and approaches are
(1) blending what the student wants with what the student needs,
(2) classical v
ocal technique from a body awareness perspective,
(3) how to sight-read keyboard scores, and
(4) music theory translated into something that makes sense.

If you don't practice that's not a deal breaker, but admit it so I can modify the plans to give you your money's worth.

You may schedule a lesson when you want or can afford one rather than being forced to take a lesson at the same time every week; that is the Schedule-As-You-Go option where lessons have no recurring schedule slot. I have weekday office hours available on a Schedule-As-You-Go basis which you won't find on the general availability information here on this profile.

Singing and Voice
Singing and voice lessons have minimum 45min duration. Do you want to do the physical work it takes to become a better singer? Do you have a place to practice? Have you read the "Your First Singing Lesson" section found on each Singing or Voice Subject Page and still want to take singing lessons with me? If you can’t say “Yes” to all of these things I can still work with you. Sign up for Music Theory lessons instead, tell me what you want to learn, and we can go from there.

Piano
Do you have regular access to a “real” piano, with weighted keys and a damper pedal? If all you have is an unacceptable keyboard sign up for Music Theory and I can still teach you how to read keyboard music, and play scales, chords, and songs by ear.

Music Theory
Music theory lessons are the most flexible option for general curiosity. You don't need much more than pencil and paper to start music theory lessons. Tell me what you’re interested in and I’ll teach it from a Music Theory perspective.

The current fee for a 45min lesson appointment in my studio is $41. Online singing and theory lessons are the same price. Lessons must be prepaid, with a strict 24hr cancellation deadline.

My teaching studio is a residential office in a high second floor walk-up near the intersection of Chicago and Ashland. I might be able to travel within East Village / Ukrainian Village / Wicker Park / Noble Square for an additional $15 travel fee. If I travel to your location we can negotiate younger ages and group fees.

Upfront deal breakers:
• I have a problem with fragrances. If I can smell something on you I may not be able to work with you. We could discuss online lessons as an alternative.
• One quietly observing adult human guest is welcome with 48-hour notice.
• If you are a singing student you need a place where you can practice and you must read the Your First Singing Lesson section prior to your first cancellation deadline.
• If you don’t have regular access to something that can legally be called a piano, including weighted keys and a damper pedal, don’t take Piano lessons.

Ask me a question using the Ask-A-Question feature. Watch my videos and think about it. I'm a good teacher. I sincerely appreciate the time it took you to read my profile. Thank you.

My very first singing lesson ever was informative, eye opening, well articulated with good imagery I could relate to, challenging, and fun. Melodie’s good coaching made me aware of both things I was doing somewhat well and tips for improving on them, and simple errors that we worked on in a very encouraging and corrective manner. I’m looking forward to practicing and my next lesson.

From late teen to adult. Lapsed opera singers welcome, too.
Language coaching, repertoire/aria help and more.

About Molly
Once upon a time there was a kid (me!) that wanted her MTV. Whenever David Lee Roth was on the screen, I’d swoon! Rock was my first love..any kind of rock. Beatles, Elvis, Cyndi….it was all fine by me. Still is!

At Millikin University, I delved into opera and shared the stage with Broadway star Sierra Boggess (I know! I am jealous of me, too!), and got my feet wet with vocal pedagogy. Oooooh, this was some cool stuff!

Soooo….after graduating , I did more with that. Rock vocals, belting, Dalcroze Eurythmics, acting, dialects…I wanted to know it all!

I’ve had the chance to learn from some of the greatest, and I am STILL learning from ‘em! And now here I am…wanting every singer I meet to just enjoy what they’ve got no matter WHAT anyone else says or has said to them in the past. You’ve got ME now!

I think anyone can and sh
ould sing. Why? Simple. Singing is FUN . Singing is FREEING. You’ve got a voice- why not use it, and as often as possible? Your voice is unique and capable of soooo many cool things- just let me show you! Anxious? Shy? You're in very good hands. I have anxiety myself, and know just how to put you at ease.

I’m different than most voice teachers. I don’t make you practice. If you’re happy, I’m happy! If that means you want a lesson of all vocal exercises, cool! If you want to work on Puccini one lesson and Judas Priest the next.....niice! Why not? The more genres you try the more you’ll love music- and yes, you CAN sing as many styles as you want no matter what you’ve been told. I will never have you sing anything you are not 100% stoked to sing- promise!

Maybe you don’t like your speaking voice and want that to be stronger for either professional or personal reasons. I do that, too. I can help you with confidence in basic conversations and accent reduction. Maybe you want singing lessons just ‘cause, and don’t ever want to sing in public because that terrifies you. I totally get it. And I say do it!

Acting? Music theory? These are also things I love to teach, especially newbies. I love helping beginner performers get confident in selecting material that shows THEM off- comic and dramatic.

Online voice lessons are my jam. These are especially convenient for those that are pressed for time or maybe a little shy or anxious.

I am the teacher for those that don’t want someone too …well….teacher-y. I want you to laugh as you learn, and love love love the results you’ll get . I understand what what it's REALLY about- expression and fun, not judgement . Vocal exploration that's 100% customized . Join me!

More about me:

BMus Millikin University, further studies Boston Conservatory . Coachings with professionals from Rossini Opera Festival, Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera. Rock vocals with Melissa Cross. Musical theatre with Sheri Sanders of Rock the Audition!, Vocal Instrument 101 training with Dr Shannon Coates. Dalcroze Eurythmics. John Henny's Science of Singing course completion. Belting with Lisa Popeil. Teacher masterclass with Maestro David Jones. Proud member of NATS. One of only a few CoreSinging teachers in the USA!

One thing that I want my students to walk away with is the joy of singing. Whether your goals are to improve your karaoke skills, join a choir, or sing professionally, we can work together to quickly identify problem areas and celebrate your strengths. We will work on creating a strong vocal technique, finding what repertoire fits you best, and so much more. Let's do it!

Ages 14+

About Rachael
I am a professional opera singer and teacher currently working in the Chicago area. I have my Bachelor of Fine Arts (Voice) from Carnegie Mellon University and my Master of Music (Voice) from Roosevelt University (CCPA).

Our first lesson together will be exploratory. We will work together to establish goals and the steps needed to get there. I believe it is important to not only identify what needs work, but what your strengths are as well.

From there, we can work on sight reading, rhythm work, breath control, and other building blocks to create a solid vocal foundation. I am more than happy to help you learn songs that are brought in, but I will recommend some as well. While I do specialize in opera and classical, we can work on Musical Theatre, Jazz, Pop, Country, etc. Good technique is good technique no matter what the genre!

Need
clarification? Do you have questions already? No problem! Send me a message or let's set up a phone call. I can't wait to meet you!

Singing shouldn't be difficult and taxing on your voice. I value proper vocal technique and approach it the same way a physical trainer would approach an athlete. I will equip you with warm ups, tools and the skill so you are able to produce a free and natural voice in whatever genre you choose.

About Wesley
By day I teach K-5th grade music and by night I rock it out playing piano bar gigs or the music I write myself. In 2014 I struggled teaching all week and then losing my voice for weekend gigs. I began studying with two great voice teachers who gave me the tools needed to become the great performer and teacher I am today.

I graduated from Illinois State University in 2010 with a Bachelors degree in music education. I continue to study vocal pedagogy and geek out on how the voice works and finding the right solutions for all students.
