Having 10 years of experienced cello teaching, I feel very comfortable helping my students understand the foundations of cello technique. I graduated with a Bachelors of Music from the music conservatory Cleveland Institute of Music, and got my Masters in Music from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music.

In addition, I completed a 2 year rigorous Suzuki Technique Pedagogy Program where I am now certified to teach all 10 levels of the cello books. I am confident in explaining any questions a student may have. I love to make practicing a game, so that way we are developing the proper skills but also challenging ourselves while having fun! Even I can understand that practicing can get tiresome and dull at times!

As a traveling musician who has performed all over the world, I feel it is important for students to appreciate all types of music. While classical training and technique are absolutely crucial to the beginning stages of a student's development, I like to show ...

Good habits and an excellent attitude make great cellists. It doesn't hurt to love music too. I love music and I love to share my passion with my students.

Having a teacher who is an experienced performer is an important quality in a teacher. I am a professional classical musician currently working as a freelance cellist in the Chicago area. I play with Chicago Philharmonic, the Northbrook Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Northwest Indiana Symphony, among others. Before coming to Chicago I played for 13 seasons with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

I have taught privately for over 10 years including 2 years in Paris. My teaching is a reflection of my teacher, Phillippe Muller. I studied with Msr. Muller while studying at the Paris Conservatory. Msr. Muller is currently a Professor of Cello at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.

About Wei

Even though I have been teaching and performing on the cello for most of my life, it's not all there is to who I am. I am a chef (almost--12 weeks to go), a mom, a wife. I have a cute little Tibetan Terrier that loves visitors. My husband and I love hiking in beautiful places. Studying with m

As a cellist with 18 years of playing experience and 5+ years of teaching I have learned that music can change your life at any age and even can help you heal from whatever struggles life throws at you. Music and learning an instrument can improve your brain functions in a way that no other activity can accomplish. I am so passionate about teaching and customize my teaching style to each student individually because the same approach does not work for everyone. I strongly believe in that and try to get to know my students, who they are, what their strengths and weaknesses are and how I can help to overcome those. I get very involved with my students and build a personal relationship with each one of them to further help them with cello. I've had some wonderful instructors myself including Amir Eldan and Hans Jensen who taught me not only how to play the instrument itself but also how to use those skills that come with being a musician in life.
In my lessons I focus on ...

I just received my Bachelors in Cello Performance from the Eastman School of Music, and will be pursuing my Masters at the New England Conservatory in the fall. I've been playing cello for over 10 years and have been doing student teaching for about 5 years. I focus on building up great technique in my students, but more importantly, I want to help my students feel more connected to the music they play, and ultimately use their technique to express themselves. The best teachers, for me, don't just teach you how to play the notes, but also how to find your own meaning in the music that you play- no matter the difficulty level of the piece you're playing!

I use the Suzuki method for most beginner/intermediate students, but I'm also sensitive to what the student wants. I'm a firm believer that the student should always enjoy what they are practicing! I want to build up healthy, solid technique in my students, but I encourage my students to find pieces they themselves are interested ...

My 16 year old daughter has been taking lessons from Alex for two years. He's a very accomplished cellist with a strong background in all areas of playing the cello. He has been very patient with my daughter. He makes the lessons fun. Her skill level has steadily improved and can be directly attributed to lessons with Alex. Most importantly, he has helped her gain more confidence in her playing! I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to become a better cellist!

"Lenna is an incredible instructor (and person). As an adult beginner, learning the cello has been incredibly challenging (both physically and emotionally). The challenge made it hard to bond with the instrument during my first six months of technical instruction (with another instructor). Along came Lenna, and she inserted exercises into our lessons to address just this, and thanks to her, I have a more peaceful and joyful relationship with my practice. Lenna has an intuitive understanding of what her students need and how to foster healthy and sustainable practice habits. She is professional, encouraging, incredibly patient and she brings must-welcomed creativity to every lesson (in the form of improv, jamming together, describing the character of tones, and more). I highly recommend lessons with Lenna."

"Johanna Wright-Vines has been a member of the Cello section of the Hallandale Symphonic Pops Orchestra for several years and she has distinguished herself in many ways.

As a musician she is musical , alert, conscientious, always well prepared and eager to perform. She loves music and it is a pleasure to work with her.

As a person she is cooperative, resourceful and always has a ready smile and a pleasant demeanor.

I wish her much luck and recommend her highly."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
