I teach every student the technical skills and applied theory necessary to work in any contemporary style on guitar. I use the "Be better than you have to be" approach. Want to be the best on a bad day? Be better than your chosen style requires. I studied classical and jazz in order to excel at rock, folk and blues.
You will learn to read music and charts for guitar, as well as movable scale patterns, movable chord forms, and how to apply it all to master the fretboard.
Have you hit a road block? I can help. Are you brand new and want to be sure you understand the instrument completely? I can help.

I've been teaching guitar for 5 years helping students develop a love for the instrument and learn more about music along the way. There are many styles I'm comfortable teaching from folk (fingerpicking or flatpicking), rock, blues and funk and I would love working on developing a unique style of your own. Within the first few lessons you'll have a solid base of strumming, picking and chord changes and even a few simple songs under your belt. Moving on from there I will craft lessons to move you toward a "goal song," making sure to cater your progress to your needs while keeping a focus on good technique. I enjoy working with students of all ages and experiences and I can't wait to meet you!

About Ryan

Ryan is a musician from Logan Square who plays a plethora of different instruments. He specializes in guitar, banjo, mandolin and ukulele, but also dabbles in accordion, piano, drums, harmonica and several others. Learning to play instruments is one of the true pleasures in his life and he hopes he

I’ve been taking lessons from Kevin for about 2 months. Before that I’d been kind of aimlessly playing around with guitar. I was playing by myself for about 20 years and basically had no timing and rhythm. I’m not a funk master yet but Kevin has given me tools that have greatly improved my timing and for the first time actually believing that I’m going to do this. Thanks

I started taking lessons with Kevin about a month ago I took lessons when I was a kid, and remember some things, but my hands do not yet so what my head is telling them. Kevin has been great, adjusting to what I already know and adding a lot of music theory, which I never had learned before. Highly recommend Kevin.
Jo
I started learning Ukulele with Kevin and then picked up Guitar lately, Kevin has a systematic way of teaching, instead of covering each and every chords, he summarizes them by different shapes, and also their variations, so you can memorize the basics and find their "relative" chords easier. He also taught music theories, how each chord is formed, and if you want to play a specific song, he's also glad to help on finding the exact chord and transfer them into different notes that suits you. Definitely have your notebook ready since there's a lot to learn. The harder thing for myself is with the online class, it's not as efficient as a face-to-face one, I also tend to be less motivated to practise but you ought to just find your own motivation!

I've been studying with Bill for years, and I benefit from him tremendously! As a teacher myself, I love how he strikes a balance between letting me set the direction for a lesson with my questions and goals but also how he is sure to focus on things that all guitar players must know to get better. I feel like I leave every lesson with lots more tools for my toolbox. Highly recommend!

I've been studying with Bill for years, and as a teacher myself, I love his approach to lessons. I always leave each session with a bunch of new ideas for my toolbox for how to approach the particular tune we're working on. Bill is the perfect balance of letting me set the direction for my lessons by telling him what is challenging me or what I want to learn and having a professional guitarist decide on and teach me the things that every musician needs to know. Highly recommend!

Bill instructs both of my children. One (14)on bass for about a year and a half. The other (10) on ukulele for about 6 months. They both enjoy their lessons and his teaching style. I have seen consistent growth in their playing. So happy to have found Bill!

Billy is an experienced guitar teacher and a professional player that knows great techniques for beginners. He has been teaching me basics of guitar in a smart way, and at each lesson I feel I learn something new and at the same time I can clearly see how much progress I have made since our first lesson.
