Hello future cello students -- welcome!!

My students should expect a well-rounded education on cello involving technical studies, playing in a variety of styles including, playing solo works, and having a great time!

About Nicolas
Hello there, future string players and welcome to my profile!!

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Miami, FL. I started my musical career at the age of 8, singing in chorus, playing the recorder, and shortly afterwards moving to the guitar, and the violin.

When I was 15, I was nominated for a James L. Knight Award in Music, and I performed as a violin soloist with the Miami Beach Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major. One of my most memorable experiences when I was a kid! In high school, I formed my own string quartet and we would perform all over the South Florida community especially at hospitals and for the elderly. At 16 years old, I was also given an internship with the New World Symphony, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, for about 2
years. During this time, I was able to take lessons from master violinists such as Marc Thayer and Glen Cherry. During this time, I was given the opportunity to perform with the New World Symphony at 17 years old for pops concert conducted and performed by Chuck Mangione in El Doral, FL.

I later on accepted a scholarship for violin performance at the University of Miami for my Bachelor of Music, and earned my Master of Music from Florida State University. I also taught string orchestras for 10 years at Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center, South Florida Youth Symphony as conductor (and now composer!), and conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. I was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Alhambra Orchestra for two seasons under the guidance of my high school orchestra teacher, Mr. Reginald Nicholson (1947-2011). It was here where I was able to work on my compositions, orchestrations, and conduct a fine group of musicians.

I now live in sunny Los Angeles, in the Sherman Oaks area, and I'm loving the new change. I am eager to share my knowledge with new students on various subjects such as learning a string instrument to learning a different language. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your goals for learning!

LESSON DETAILS
I have been teaching music as an adult, certified teacher since I was in college, but have done teaching as early as 15 years old.

I will help you create a fantastic technical base so you will be able to play with ease as your skill level develops, all while keeping the lessons fun and engaging.

MUSIC STUDIO
Piano, Violin, Guitar, Music Stand, General Teaching Aids, Recording Equipment.

TRAVEL EQUIPMENT
I can provide a music stand and basic materials but the student is expected to have their own instruments and to buy the music I recommend. I can recommend various vendors/shops where you can buy the ideal instrument for your lessons.

EXPERTISE
I am classically-trained musician that also specializes in Tango performance, Latin/Jazz, Rock, and a variety of other styles. I believe that training in the classical aesthetic will create a firm, solid foundation to crossover into other areas listed above. With a good dose of technical exercises, scales, and a variety of repertoire, my students always turn out well-rounded, ready to tackle almost any kind of music they wish to learn.

Thank you for stopping by and let me know what you would like to learn!

About Ray
Hello!

My name is Ray, I'm 30 years old, and was born in Queens, NY. I studied classical music for many years as a youngster at the Aaron Copeland School of Music college preparatory program. During this program I was introduced to Jazz, and around the same time began experimenting with synthesizers. I went on to study Electronic Production & Design at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and quickly became a very sought after studio musician and performer.

I've been successfully teaching many instruments and proficiency levels for 16+ years now, and can say with pride that teaching is my passion, and I anticipate it being a very important part of the rest of my life.

I enjoy reading nonfiction books on science, math, and philosophy, and am building a career as a pop music producer.

*** Lesson Details ***
My music lessons
are unique for three main reasons:

1. I have a very deep understanding of music, sound, and theory, and feel music to be one of my native languages.

2. I have devoted considerable amounts of time and energy studying neuroscience, which has greatly improved my understanding of the learning process.

3. I have been blessed with the tremendous amount of patience necessary to guide a student through the necessary steps it takes to learn at whatever pace is optimal, in order to maximize the efficiency of the learning process for each individual.

*** Equipment ***
Students must have their own instrument, and purchase their own materials (books, etc). From time to time I make my way to a local music shop, and am happy to purchase materials for reimbursement.

*** Specialties ***
Classical music is my background, and what I believe to be the most cognitively and emotionally fulfilling style of music to study and play. That said, I'm also a big fan of pop music (as well as other genres), and encourage students to enjoy learning their favorite songs from the radio.

My understanding of music theory is extremely thorough, and I'm happy to incorporate as much or as little of it as the student's interest dictates, nevertheless maintaining the minimal amount of theory necessary to get the most out of learning music and the instrument.

Thanks for checking out my profile! Please contact me with any additional questions you may have, as well as to inquire about day/time availability. I'll do my best to get back to you right away (usually within a few hours).

I prefer String Essentials as a teaching aid because it mixes a good amount of exercises with songs and also allows for duets. For the first few lessons I will tune the instrument and talk the student through the process. We always play a warm up scale and song, then we'll work on the decided piece. I love to leave time for the student to ask questions and present possible song interest! Suzuki Method is best for the student who will benefit from consist exercises, but should be used as a guide to full piece performance and structure.

About Janelle
Hello! My name is Janelle L. and I am a Manhattanville College graduate with a BFA in Musical Theatre and a BA in Psychology. As a performer I have appeared in the Off- Broadway productions ANTIGONE and TWELTH NIGHT with Love Creek Theater Company, SHOUT The Mod Musical and SHOWTUNE with direction by Mark Cherry, The Off-Broadway production oF THE EXTRAORDINARY FALL OF THE FOUR LEGGED WOMAN and a solo cabaret at The Metropolitan Room. I currently teach Voice, Piano, Violin, and Cello at The New Windsor School of Music and The Rock Underground of Greenwood Lake. I have learned some of my best lessons from being a performer and try to give my students more than technical knowledge; i.e. breathing from the diaphragm, not using tension to control breath, aiming over the soft pallet, etc., but also acting and performance knowledge; like learn
ing to work with your nerves before a number and thinking about why the character is singing instead of saying the lyrics. I have been teaching since I was 16; from students ranging from 5 years old to 47 and have learned to adapt my curriculum to each student while making sure they develop a good repertoire and technique. For educational purposes I follow exercises and drills from a range of books including Vocal Strength and Power by Dena Murray, Speak with Distinction by Edith Skinner, Acting Songs by David Brunetti, and Voice and The Alexander Technique by Jane Ruby Heirich. I can perform basic accompanying parts and can also transpose music.

a sample of how my voice lessons are run is below. Each student with leave with a basic knowledge of solfage, a musical scale, and multiple genres of songs.

A fully trained and registered Suzuki cello teacher. Teaching cello to students at any age and any level. 8 years of teaching experience.
Teaching mainly according to the Suzuki Method. Beginners will be starting from basics to build a solid foundation to become a complete cellist and a knowledgable musician. More importantly, to enjoy the fun of cello playing and beauty of music making along the way!
I look forward to working with you!

About Tszto
Hi there! My name is Tszto and I am a fully-trained Suzuki cello teacher based in Houston. I graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music with a Master degree in Cello Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy and I moved to Houston a year ago to continue my studies as a graduate student at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and I am looking to expand my studio!

Having 20 years of playing experience definitely helps my teaching. Also, I have been through a period of three years without a cello teacher and having to re-work myself for all the basics and fundamental work after I started taking lesson again. This experience taught me so much on how to start learning the instrument from scratch and also how to "rehab" your bad habit.

As a pedagogue, this is my 8th year of teaching the cello. I am fully trained and registered with
the Suzuki Association of Amercas. I have a Master degree in Cello Pedagogy. I am teaching mainly in Suzuki Method. I was an assistant teacher at the Sato Center for Suzuki Studies for two years. I take students from age 3 up and in any level.

As a cellist, I have the privilege to work with some of the greatest musicians in the world such as Lorin Maazel, Lynn Harrell, Peter Salaff and the Cavani Quartet. I received the Appassionata Endowed Scholarship in Music from Shepherd School to study with Norman Fischer. Before I moved to Houston, I studied with Mark Kosower, who is the current cello principal of the Cleveland Orchestra. I have had the honour to receive the Hong Kong Arts Circle Fellowship from Asian Cultural Council and the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs music scholarship for my studies. I am also the Gold Prize Winner in Cleveland Cello Society Competition – Collegiate Division and the 1st Place Winner in American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition in 2016.

Tszto IS THE BEST CELLO TEACHER I have ever had because it is the first time someone explains me how to BREATH and ENJOY playing the cello, with a PERFECT TECHNIQUE and posture. He loves to play cello and he teaches with the same PASSION. He is super PATIENT with me and has the best way to correct me and explain me. He is an amazing cello player and really pedagogic. I had a german style teacher in the past and I stop playing cello because I didn't enjoy it and had pain and frustration. Tszto is helping me to reconnect with my cello, he corrects my posture (so it is a pleasant time with absolute no pain) and playing is turning to be a movement meditation for me, I love it now. I can feel and hear the progress on each lesson, thanks to him and to the homework (practice 15 mins, listen and reading). THANK YOU Tszto! After so many years, I am able to start again from cero and with so much passion. Thank you!

Tszto was the best instructor ever! He was well-prepared, experienced, and flexible. He always brought all of his teaching materials relevant to me and made sure we cover what I needed to learn/reinforce. He was also clearly experienced with teaching a wide range of students and applied relevant teaching methods that worked best for me. I also appreciated how flexible he was in scheduling/rescheduling lessons whenever despite his own busy schedule and commitment. I only had a very positive experience learning from him and appreciated the fact that he demonstrated his passion for teaching in every lesson I had with him. Definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to learn/practice cello!

One of my favorite things about humanity is how we all learn differently. I aim to cater my teaching to each student to best prepare them as musicians, performers, and possibly future educators. I adhere to the "canon" of cello playing, but spice it up to appeal to each student and keep them passionately in love with their instrument.

About Katrina
A little about me personally: I am a native Wisconsinite, an avid cellist, and lifetime music lover. I have been teaching cello lessons privately off and on for the last 9 years and hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire.

In my school years, I participated in the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras, as well as Wisconsin School Music Association’s High School Honors Orchestra, and the Honor’s Performance Series High School Honors Orchestra at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Throughout those years, I also competed in Solo & Ensemble both regionally and at the state level.

In college, I served as principal cellist in the University Symphony Orchestra, and also played with the department’s premier quartet, the LE Phillips String Quartet. I participated in these ensembles in addition to the Baroque
Ensemble and Contemporary Ensemble, along with other various chamber ensembles and as featured soloist with the Singing Statesmen.

Throughout high school, college, and post-college I have had private students of all ages; elementary, middle, high school, and adult. I also coached sectionals for cello and bass at a local middle school.

My passion is to get kids (and adults!) excited about music and provide one-on-one instruction to students to kindle their love of music and of cello, and spark their curiosity to go deeper into music. So if your student, your child, or you are interested in studying cello privately, let’s get the ball rolling!

Additionally, I have a Grades 2 & 3 Director's license in the state of Wisconsin through my minor in Library Science through the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. I am currently working on a Master of Library and Information Science through the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee with an emphasis in Public Librarianship, and have served on the committee for the Wisconsin Center for the Book to select Wisconsin's 2018 Best Children's Book for the National Book Festival. Additionally I have worked with local libraries in their Summer Reading Programs, promoting literacy and reading. I am passionate about reading and getting kids excited about books and learning!
