: I endeavor to teach you a natural and easy vocal production; to teach you a good solid technique of singing and to help you develop confidence and a polished delivery as a singing artist on and off the stage.

Our work together is an intuitive journey of discovery. Your participation in giving feedback about what you are experiencing during our sessions together as well as what happens in your practice sessions and in your performances is an invaluable tool for us to discover and develop your voice.

Practice: I encourage you to practice 20 minutes a day. An hour is ideal. Singing is like anything that you want to master: it improves with work and investigation. The voice is a curiously individual element of each person and aside from the basics of technique no two voices work the same. Our work together is to develop your unique voice and to discover how it works. Working outside our sessions on a regular basis will help you take ownership of your voice and technique.

About Michael Douglas
I maintain very active performing and teaching careers. I have private voice studios on Long Island and in Manhattan and have taught singers and pianists in every genre of music for the last 28 years. I was on the faculty of New York University in the Music and Music Professions Department for 5 years. I was a coach in the Banff Centre's 'Voice through body and movement' workshop. Throughout my career as a vocal coach, I have worked with many cabaret artists as musical director, arranger and accompanist. Most notably, Debbie Boily's "Thank You for the Music"a one woman show with me at the piano, recorded live at Ovations in June 2004 Houston, Texas and subsequently performed in France, England and New York. Most recently, I recorded an opera with Jazz legend Anthony Braxton and a Jazz CD with Fred Ho. I have recorded operas in progress fo
r Atlantic Records and new works of composers on the BMI label. As a performer I won the prestigious Jessie award for "outstanding performance by an actor in a leading role" for my creation of the Marquis in "120 Songs for the Marquis de Sade" in the world premiere co-produced by Modern Baroque Opera and Vancouver New Music. My international debut was in Sweden, singing the lead role of Director in "Kafka's Chimp" by Welsh composer, John Metcalf. Auditions/Performances: Please bring all music that you plan to sing in public to your sessions well in advance of the performance. We need time to investigate the music and its demands together; it will make you more confident and polished in your presentation.

In our Vocal sessions you will learn…
…how to use and blend the entire range of your voice.
… a healthy and free voice management.
1) You want to know what to expect from your vocal instrument on any given note and on any given word.
2) Training makes singing technique second nature; training relieves struggling to get the sound out and allows more focus on the performance.
3) Training allows for more tone coloration, a wider dynamic range, a full use and blending of the registers and greater stamina.
4) Extensive training and practical voice work gives a singer with long-range career aspirations the tools necessary to succeed in an incredibly competitive business. Whether the music is rock, pop, jazz, rhythm and blues, country, musical theater or classical, the trained singer can better meet the demands of a life on the stage as a singer.

For those of you who are nervous getting started, Michael is the one for you. He made me feel at ease during our first lesson. He also showed me things I could do with my voice right away, which i found shocking. He has been great at boosting my confidence and getting me to that next level. I definitely recommend Michael for anyone who is looking to start singing!!

I have been working with Michael for about 5 years and I find him to be very knowledgeable and patient. I have worked on a variety of music from classical to pop and I am always learning something new. Michael has a lot of passion and emotion when he sings which I really admire. He has helped me improve a great deal. I have seen him work with people of all ages who are at various points in their journey and he knows how to help you become your best. He has helped me improve my range and expression of emotion when I sing. I have worked hard and had fun at the same time. I have become more confident and am willing to take more risks than I used to. When I am working with Michael I feel his undivided attention and he helps me to feel good about myself!

She also teaches PIANO. She has taught piano for about 10 years. She studied piano privately for 10 years and had further study at Indiana University.

*LESSON DETAILS

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR LESSON LENGTH:
Voice students: 30 minutes for young students up to 5th grade. 45 minutes for young students in Middle School and some 5th graders. 45 or 60 minutes preferred for high school students and adults. Piano students: 30 minutes for most beginners of any age. 45 minutes for young intermediate level and adult students.

TEACHING STYLE AND CURRICULUM:
ALL: My teaching style is relaxed yet progressive. I use positive reinforcement to encourage progress with adults and children. Students are allowed to progress at their own pace which varies with age, coordination, processing speed and previous exposure to musical education.

PIANO: I prefer the Alfred'™s Basic Piano Library series for my piano students. I find that my students learn more music theory and music reading with this series. If the student has started lessons in a different series, I can work with that as well. I have a large music library that provides a wide selection of music in addition to the Alfred books. I expect most beginning students to learn basic music reading and theory in 3 to 6 months. They should also to be able to play simple tunes in that time. I am an active professional singer, so I have a large library of vocal material at my disposal.

All piano students are REQUIRED to have an instrument to practice on at home. The piano MUST HAVE AT MINIMUM:
IF Digital - 88 full sized, weighted keys with polyphonic sound ( at least 10 keys should be able to sound at at the same time) and a sustain pedal,
OR - If Accoustic - maintained and properly tuned.

VOICE: I begin my voice lessons with breathing techniques and vocal placement using widely accepted exercises coming from a large body of sources such as:
Vaccai, professional level vocal teachers, coaches and directors that I have worked with and learned from over the last 30 years, and the writings of highly acclaimed authors in the vocal field. I also have a wide selection of art song books, oratorio, musical theatre, and opera. My background is classical and musical theatre, but I believe all styles of singing need the basic skills of breathing and vocal placement. I strive to keep voices healthy as well as find each student's most beautiful sound. Most students will see progress in breath control, range, projection and diction in 3 to 6 months.

Repertoire is chosen on an individual basis depending both physical and musical ability. Younger students and beginners will be encouraged to not push their voices with material that is too difficult for their individual abilities because singing requires a certain amount of physical endurance. My goal is to find each student's natural sound without strain for whatever style he or she
sings.

Voice students are encouraged to bring a recording device to lessons to use for later practice and study.

STUDIO EQUIPMENT AND LIBRARY:
Piano, Computer with Internet Access, Library of Music and Reference Materials (Sample Listing): Alfred's Basic Piano Library Books Twenty-Four Italian Songs and Arias, Medium High and Medium Low Voice; Schirmer Sing at First Sight; Alfred Basics of Singing by Jan Schmidt; Schirmer Many Soprano Collections of Arias, Oratorio, Sacred, and Art Songs from Schirmer Several Broadway Music Collections from Hal Leonard Discover Your Voice by Oren Brown Training the Speaking Voice by Virgil Anderson International Phonetic Alphabet for Singers by Wall Dynamics of the Singing Voice by Meribeth Bunch Classical Singer Magazine Subscription Journal of Singing, The Official Journal of the National Association of Teachers of Singing,Inc.Subscription

SPECIALTIES:
I am classically trained bel canto voice teacher, but I can work with broadway and pop styles. I teach sight singing for students pursuing auditions for All State Chorus and College entrance, etc. I use the Alfred Basic Piano Series for Piano students

I specialize in classical and operatic repertoire. I've always felt the need to express myself through song and I love to help others feel comfortable to sing whatever it is that inspires them. Whether you are singing for fun or working toward a professional career in music, I will help you establish and achieve realistic goals that will leave you feeling fulfilled, energized, and confident, all in a safe and comfortable environment.

About Kelley
**My schedule changes weekly, so if you don't see a time that works, please send me a message and we may be able to find something!**

Whether you've never had a voice lesson in your life, are looking for fine tuning, or are just curious, I'd love to help you set and achieve your goals! I've studied classical voice for over 17 years, and started teaching about six years ago. I focus on breath control, relieving body tension and any hindrance to beautiful and free sound, diction, and interpretation. I speak French, some Italian, a little German, and can also help with Czech and Russian diction.

My goal for students is that they develop the healthy, efficient, and reliable ability to express themselves through music in a safe and fun environment. I've studied with some of the finest pedagogues in the world, and am comfortable teaching
students at any stage in their musical development.

***Lesson Details***
For beginners, I like to focus on music fundamentals, including theory and aural skills, and building a solid foundation of breath management. For more advanced students, the focus will be refinement and fine tuning--whether it be working on dramatic interpretation, freeing up the sound and any tension in the body, performance anxiety, or languages. We can work on operatic, song, musical theater, and jazz repertoire, languages and diction, dramatic interpretation, and performance skills.

I believe very strongly in singing repertoire appropriate for your age and level, and will not do anything to compromise your development.

Learning to sing requires a great deal of hard work and commitment. Each lesson, I will leave the student with specific exercises and pieces to practice before the next lesson. New exercises may pose challenges, but that's part of the process! If you are struggling with a particular assignment, please do not hesitate to communicate with me, and I will guide you through it, or find an alternative to help you achieve the same goal.

We are all different, and so have different learning styles. Singing lessons should be therapeutic, gratifying, and above all fun! I don't ever want singing to turn into a chore or something you don't enjoy. This should be fun!

***Travel Equipment***
Student should have either a piano or keyboard. A CD player, mirror, and yoga mat are a plus.

***Skype Equipment***
Computer with high-speed internet. I can supply electronic files for sheet music and accompanied tracks.

***More about me***
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

I tackle the styles or genres that the student is interested in while implementing healthy vocal hygiene and practice rituals. I work to make my students gain a refined and powerful, yet unique voice. My studio comes with connections to professional audio engineers and videographers for when a student may want any recordings or media done. I also assist with songwriting for students interested. How to analyze music

Here are a few reviews from students I have taught:
Mr. S was a great teacher. He was always professional and fair about his tests and
grading. Aside from the basic music theory 1 curriculum itself, he gave the class additional input that gave some of the concepts more context. I learned alot. Most of all, I appreciated his willingness to help me on an individual basis. I don't think I grasped some of the concepts as fast as other students, but Mr. S was always there to lend a helping hand. At times, I'd run into him just as he was leaving the building, but he'd still help me with a homework problem or two. He didn't have to do this, but I'm thankful that he did. I'd recommend Mr. S to anyone wanting to take Music Theory.

Mr. S is an absolutely fantastic teacher. I doubt I would have learned as much as I did throughout the Aural skills sequence at UGA if he wasn't my instructor. He just has a way with teaching and getting concepts across that is very effective. He goes above and beyond to make sure no one in the class ever falls behind, and is very understanding and willing to give extra help. He's so great!.

I love Mr. S, he was very helpful and took time out of his schedule to help me when ever possible! The only thing I would say is try to include more dictations in class, don't focus as much on theory behind it, deffinetly still go over it but just not as much. For example it really did help though when, you would go over the functions of each chord and note. Thank you for a great year!

I thought that Mr. was a very good instructor. He was always willing to meet outside of class to help you with questions. He also tried to explain things many ways when you don't understand. He is very smart and good at what he does. I hope to h

Hello potential student! I have been teaching voice for the past ten years and I am a professional opera singer, but I love teaching all different styles! I received my Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance/Vocal Pedagogy from the prestigious Peabody Institute in Baltimore, MD. I believe that anyone can learn how to sing, and I am very passionate about inspiring individuality and confidence in each of my students, no matter his/her skill level! In a half-hour lesson, we usually spend the first 15 minutes doing warmups and building technique with specific exercises that strengthen the voice, extend range, improve diction, etc. The second half of the lesson is spent applying that technique to a song. You can expect to learn all of the foundations of singing in a lesson, such as correct posture and breathing, diction, musicality, etc., as well as how to deal with stage fright, confidence issues, performance practice, and/or singing in different languages.

About Erica
Hello future students, parents and/or guardians! Thank you for taking a moment to read my profile. I have been teaching voice/piano for ten years and counting! I am a professional opera singer and a graduate of the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, MD, where I received my Master of Music in Vocal Performance/Vocal Pedagogy. I have performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, and have sung with many different companies around the United States including Seattle Opera, Tacoma Opera, Utah Festival Opera, and Maryland Lyric Opera, to name a few. Even though I am a classically-trained singer, I love working on various different styles with my students. And speaking of students, some have gone on to compete and win in voice/piano competitions, talent shows, and even audition for The Voice! What ever you or your child
's musical goals are, I will strive to do my best in helping you or your child attain them (and more).

Singing lessons with Dr. Tift are unique because they always begin with vocal conditioning based in classical singing then lead into the style of singing that you want to learn. Whether you're interested in learning a new piece of music by ear or from sheet music, or if you're working on becoming a better sight singer, I can help! I have taught voice for over 18 years. As a professional perfomer with extensive experience in musical theatre, classical, gospel, r&/b/soul, and jazz singing, I look forward to helping you enhance your skills as a singer.

About Kristyl
Over the past 18 years, I have helped students improve their vocal skills by training them to become better technical singers and expanding their knowledge of singing styles. As a professor, I have taught at the university level for a total of 6 years in Theatre and Communication Arts, teaching such courses as Voice, Speech, Public Speaking, and Musical Theatre singing. A classically-trained singer with a 3-octave range and proficiency in classical/opera, jazz, r&b/soul, blues, and other styles, I am an excellent teacher with patience and an encouraging manner. A lifelong learner, I hold a PhD in Theatre and Performance Studies from The University of Georgia, an MFA in Acting from The New School, and a BA in Theatre (with a Music Minor) from Georgia Southern University. I look forward to helping you reach your musical goals!
