Claire makes sure that she answers any questions that I have. She goes at my pace. She's a great teacher! She is so experienced and patient.
Christy
Taking lessons on line is sometimes challenging; for instance, the instructor is talking but sometimes her words become garbled, like watching television and the picture and sound fades in and out.

I thought the teacher wanted me to just memorize the one section (the tune); she wasn't clear the first time (the first lesson) on memorizing the tune for playing All of the exercises without looking at the music notes. So, yesterday's lesson wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be.

I am an early intermediate level cello player. At the outset of the year I had set some very specific goals that I hoped to achieve and set out to find a teacher that would help me achieve those. Michael has done just that. I have taken lessons now from Michael for about 6 months and cannot say enough good things about him. He is extremely knowledgeable. He is always well prepared, and ready to make progress on advancing my skills with the instrument. He is patient and ready to work within my own limitations. He is always encouraging and positive, and constructive in his critique. I would highly recommend Michael, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned cellist.

While I certainly place emphasis on technical work and mastery, I also want all students to feel comfortable in expressing their individual voice and interests. I believe that it is incredibly important to encourage students to explore a number of creative avenues within music. Therefore, I am very open to having students explore music outside the classical canon in addition to experimenting with improvisation and composition. An additional component of my teaching style is finding unique and interesting ways to keep students motivated and teaching them how to effectively practice and learn on their own.

About Helen

My teaching philosophy is largely centered around the importance of individuality. The “one size fits all” approach is hardly ever adequate--every student has different needs, strengths, and challenges. While I certainly place emphasis on technical work and mastery, I also want all students to feel

Cello:
A bowed or plucked string instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. The strings from low to high are generally tuned to C2, G2, D3 and A3, an octave lower than the viola. It is a member of the violin family of musical instruments, which also includes the violin and viola and the double bass. The cello is used as a solo musical instrument, as well as in chamber music ensembles (e.g., string quartet), string orchestras, as a member of the string section of symphony orchestras, and some types of rock bands. It is the second-largest and second lowest (in pitch) bowed string instrument in the modern symphony orchestra, the double bass being the largest and having the lowest (deepest) pitch. My lessons always start out with the basics! We start out by learning notes by plucking the strings and then the bow is soon incorporated. The goal is to eventually learn all the notes on the fretboard and also learning how to read and play chords. As the student progresses ...

Karen was great!
Carter
This teacher misrepresented her ability to teach the C system chromatic button accordion. I don't believe that she has ever played one. I asked her before purchasing a set of classes if she knew this instrument and was competent to teach it, and she said she was.

She didn't have one, so she could never demonstrate anything I asked about. She didn't know the key layout. She didn't know the conventions for numbering fingers. She didn't know the basic home key scale pattern.

I waited until I'd finished four classes with my new teacher before writing this so I'd have a good basis for comparison. He is immensely better at teaching this than she was. It further convinced me that she never should have represented herself as competent to teach this particular instrument.

"I am 43 years old and was scared to take on such a difficult instrument but I really wanted to learn how to play the beautiful cello. I had my first lesson and am very happy with Claire. She is friendly, accommodating, patient, and explains her lesson in a clear and easy manner (as easy as you can get with the cello). I had a lot of questions and she was very open in answering all of them. Although I am still at the very very beginnings of my journey, I am very excited to continue with the cello lessons, thanks to Claire."

There are also internal posts and sound bars which allow the body to function as an acoustic amplifier across the cello’s wide range. What Does it Take to Become a Professional Cello Player?

Pursuing a career in music is a risky decision, because by the nature of the industry few artists can “make it big.” Most artists aren’t pop stars, or even full-time career musicians, and all musicians also teach to remedy this. There are many paths to becoming a professional cello player, and depending on where you start it might be easy or hard to earn a reputation and start making money. I followed an academic path, studying classical music at university and then continuing my research …

What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …
