I like to use Fast Track by Hal Leonard Book 1 it is an easy book to learn from. You learn your notes on all 6. Why because it is important to read music just as it is to play the guitar. Learn your favorite songs. Learn strumming patterns. Strumming is hard so it takes a bit. And yes your FINGERS will be sore for a while but you will survive!!!!

Guitar students start with five subjects.
1) Technique is concerned with the development of the physical mechanics involved in playing the instrument.
2) Scales are a part of basic music vocabulary and building blocks of the musical language.
3) Chords are also basic vocabulary of the musical language.
4) Note reading is not required for every student. It really depends on the students' goals. However, I strongly encourage everyone learn to read musical notation, (more than tablature). Literacy in reading music is analogous to literacy in reading in our English language. Can you imagine how much smaller our world would be if we couldn't read?
5) Songs utilize the skills and concepts of all the previously mentioned subjects and are the goal of studying music. The student chooses what songs they want to play, guided by my suggestions; Jazz, rock, blues, country, bluegrass, R &B - "How deep is the ocean, how high is the sky?"
A beginning student will practice all

For the beginner we start learning immediately, by choosing what guitar and why. The different methods of sitting with the guitar, as well as standing. We then go over tuning your instrument, these things make us more familiar with the instrument. We then learn new songs by playing either chords (harmony) or melodic lines, (melodies or scales). The beginner will also learn to use "proper technique" which includes playing on fingertips, thumb placement for the fretting hand and other approaches. The picking hand techniques include and are not limited to finger picking, or the use of the plectrum.
For intermediate player it's all about theory and practice. This level of student will learn scale and chordal theory, and apply them to existing songs as well as learning the new songs with the theory in mind. More advanced picking techniques and the ability to know when to use what picking approach when reading the the rhythm figures on the staff. Knowledge of song composition is ...

Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.

Mike is an outstanding teacher. As a total guitar novice, his patience and instructional ability really helped me take small steps into a much bigger world. Between the in studio lessons and the exercises he gave me to do at home, I really feel like I learned a great deal in a short time period. I hope to work with him again in the future and would strongly recommend him to anyone thinking of guitar lessons."

When our eight year old son Jake wanted to begin electric guitar lessons, we called a local music store who suggested Jason would be a good fit as an instructor for him. At that time, we had no idea we were beginning a wonderful relationship that would last more than 8 years, and continues today. Jason's personality made Jake feel welcome and comfortable right away. His teaching style kept Jake interested and challenged. We watched Jakeâs passion and musical ability grow with each lesson. Over the years, Jason has been a leader, a mentor, a role model, and a motivator. He helped Jake prepare for several auditions, going above and beyond to help him be successful. To this day, Jake never wants to miss a lesson and continues to learn a great deal from Jason.
Early in Jakeâs music education, we wondered how we would find an instructor as great as Jason when Jake âoutgrewâ him. But, we learned that Jason has so much to offer students at all levels. Jason has the knowledge and experience to provide instruction in a variety of music genres and music theory. He has the flexibility to tailor the lessons to help Jake with whatever he needs at the time. Those needs have changed dramatically from third grade to twelfth grade. But, Jason is happily up for the challenge.
We cannot say enough good things about our time with Jason!"

My 10 year old grandson is learning to play an electric guitar whereas I favor the acoustic. Instead of doing 2 separate half hour lessons, Rebecca let us combine them into a single hour that we take together. Doing the lessons together makes it easy to see how Rebecca makes adjustments to each person's abilities and instrument. A number of the songs in the music book are made for 3 separate guitars, which makes it more enjoyable/interesting as each one of us (including Rebecca) take turns playing a different guitar's section at the same time.
A real down to earth individual that is both joyful and serious. I keep coming up with questions regarding music and playing the guitar. Whether its part of the lesson or not; she is always provides me with an answer that is easy to understand.
I would highly recommend Rebecca as an instructor."

When you're learning guitar, it's fun to explore different types of music. Playing country guitar is fun and relatively easy to learn when you focus on easy country songs. Great county songs generally have a slow, easy pace and a memorable melody and chorus. This makes it easy for you to understand how the songs are supposed to sound, and helps you to play them correctly. Basic Song Structure Whether you're playing country music or another style of music, you will learn the same basic song str …
