My lessons are personally tailored to each students learning style. I want each student to feel empowered and confident, in a fun and inspiring environment. Throughout the lessons we will talk about goals and preferred music styles, and move at a comfortable pace so that the student can feel confident in their progress. Annual recitals are offered for those who wish to showcase their progress, though they are not at all a requirement for those who do not wish to participate.

About Peyton

My name is Peyton and I have been teaching cello in the Philadelphia/Tri-State area since 2012. I have been playing cello since I was 6 years old, and believe a lot of my passion for music came from having an incredibly inspiring teacher since day one. I aim to bring that same energy and inspiratio

Cello has brought me all over the world! I've play in pit orchestras for musical theater and in classical chamber orchestras, recorded on folk records and electronic albums, performed in Indian music festivals and the Montreux Jazz festival! Lessons with me will be rooted in an understanding of the instrument that can be applied to any genre.

My daughter started lessons with Ellen in person before the pandemic and shifted to online lessons since the pandemic. In both formats Ellen has been excellent in providing professional guidance, new tools / exercises, but most importantly, she has been able to help my daughter gain her confidence back and actually enjoy learning more about her self through her voice. I highly recommend Ellen, she’s always been responsive, responsible, on time, and extremely professional while also warm and approachable.

Ellen is awesome. I am a total beginner and perfectionist so I don't tend to do well with learning something new in front of another person. I grow easily frustrated when I don't pick things up quickly and easily and get embarrassed when I make mistakes. Ellen makes the lessons super comfortable for me and I leave having learned something new every time. I have a LONG way to go but I can see where this can lead and plan to stick with it. She knows how to make music and an instrument make sense to someone with no background in music which is very helpful for me. I plan to stick with her for a long time!

My teaching style puts a focus on realizing musicality and expression through proper playing technique. Playing for hours shouldn't be hard on your body! I work to make my students comfortable at their instruments so that their musical intentions can shine. I am a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher, and I look forward to meeting some new cellists!

About Rachel

I have a BFA in Cello Performance from UW-Milwaukee. As a student, I worked for the university as a tutor in Music Theory, at the recommendation of my professors. Since relocating to Philadelphia, I have established myself as an educator all over the city. I am the cello instructor at the Baldwin

It's no surprise that it's hard to learn an instrument as an adult. Apart from a semester of guitar lessons in college, I had no musical training and no understanding of music theory. All I knew was that I loved the sound of a cello, and I was graciously gifted one on my 28th birthday.

I am proud to say that I have been Rachel's cello student for over three years now. Since the beginning, Rachel has made sure that I felt comfortable during our lessons, and she remains reassuring even when I get discouraged with my bow hold or tight fingers.

Rachel has taught me a lot about music theory, but she's mostly taught me how to love my instrument. It has been amazing to see and hear the progress I've made, and she continues to give me more exciting challenges to practice each week. She's been attentive to my learning style and my ever-evolving cello goals, and I've been consistently impressed with how she's been able to keep our lessons interesting and fun over the years.

Rachel and I meet for an hour once a week and I look forward to every lesson! She has been the best instructor, and I look forward to many more lessons to come.

I’m an adult student and Rachael has been my instructor for almost two years now. She’s very knowledgeable and PATIENT! Ive grown so much in the past two years and I’m looking forward to more.

As a musician with over 20 years of performing and teaching experience internationally I have worked professionally in many countries such as Austria, Greece, Germany, Serbia, Switzerland and US.
I am very dedicated teacher who strives to understand and develop unique lesson plans for each student individually, depending on students abilities and goals.
I find it exciting to teach students of different ages and levels and to see students grow and become masters of their art.

About Miljan

I have been introduced to classical music in my early childhood. One of my first music experience I can remember was playing cello and struggling with the size and weight of the instrument. At the age of 11 I have been accepted into children's choir which led at the age of 15 into one of the world

Ray is an amazing teacher. My 11-year-old has high-functioning autism and has a great interest in learning music. I was hesitant to hire just any teacher, as many teachers don't have the patience and understanding to work with special needs kids. However, Ray has been not only patient, but he has an exceptional way of teaching my son in a way that he would understand and retain the information. Ray is creative, intuitive, and experienced. My son is very happy and enjoys the lesson every single time. Thanks Ray.

I've had two lessons so far and Alison seems like a really wonderful teacher. She is very attentive to detail and good at giving advice and feedback. I haven't taken music lessons in a long time, and I've never played a string instrument before, but already with Alison's expert instruction, I feel like I'm really learning. I highly recommend her!

"Ryan is a great teacher. He is very patient with my 9 year old son Max who is new to the cello. Max looks forward to his weekly lessons and Ryan is doing a fabulous job at helping him keep up with his fellow Cello players at school.
Max has requested a longer lesson time which is a good sign he is beginning to feel more confidant.
Ryan is very professional and shows that he really cares about Max's progress. My husband and I were unsure if Cello lessons online would work but everything is going smoothly so far...Plus it's much more convenient."

"We couldn’t be happier with Corey. My son has taken lessons from others in the past that we thought were good...we didn’t know what we were missing! Corey communicates clearly, gives tangible things to practice and work on, and is friendly. I also appreciate that he takes time to check in and see how my son has been. During this quarantine kids are needing asl the connections they can find. My son looks forward to his lessons and I enjoy listening to him play."

"I took cello lessons from Mr. Anderson for eight years, and he was an absolutely fantastic instructor. I began playing cello because I watched him teach my brother and thought as a ten-year-old that it would be fun to take lessons with Mr. Anderson. He is a great communicator, super personable, provides suggestions and critique in a constructive manner, and is encouraging and supportive. He taught me all of the basics of cello playing and beyond, helping me work through all sorts of pieces, including etudes, solo pieces, all-region and all-state audition material, youth orchestra material (e.g., GDYO), etc. (and helped me succeed in all of these aspects). Would highly recommend taking lessons with Mr. Anderson—he is an absolute pleasure to learn from!"

"Out of all the instructors I’ve had (instructors with PhDs and over twenty years of experience teaching cello), Chialing is the best by far. I’ve been taking lessons with her for a little over a year and a half and I know that aside from her general likability, she is very diligent and detail-oriented—characteristics essential to fixing technique problems sometimes rooted in even the slightest improper finger placement. Furthermore, she quickly re-explains concepts in new ways until I understand them both conceptually and physically. She also goes out of her way to find drills tailored toward keeping current skills sharp and improving weak skills. She will work with you to ensure you keep improving and stay interested in the piece and drills you’re working on. She won’t disappoint."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
