I took 5 lessons with Ed, very great instructor. I learned a lot in those few lessons. He helped with with my pitch and with my accent that I had to prepare for an audition. With his help I was accepted into my high school’s A cappella group “Madrigals” and overall I would recommend. We made it work and tried to make the best out of the situation. Great experience:)

My kids thoroughly enjoyed lessons with Ed (both guitar and piano). Lessons started with my 7yo and when his brother turned 4yo, he started as well.

Through the foundation I've gained by the influences of Mel Bay, Hal Leonard, and Suzuki musical instruction methods, I compile my own teaching materials. Using personally constructed guitar lessons, I demonstrate, instruct, and guide the student based on my assessment of their individual needs, skill level, and progress. Lessons are formulated in Modules, and advancement through them is based on the student's personal aptitude, skill level, and practice commitment. Learning is accomplished by ear as well as through essential methods of musical notation (tablature, 5-line staff, rhythmic comprehension). Students are trained to perform written music as well as to write and express the music within themselves.
I'm an encouraging and motivating guitar teacher with a casual relaxed approach. Teaching new guitarists is very rewarding to me. To see the light come on and watch a student perform a song, express themselves musically, and create their own composition is an awesome experience.

About Scott

For the beginner we start learning immediately, by choosing what guitar and why. The different methods of sitting with the guitar, as well as standing. We then go over tuning your instrument, these things make us more familiar with the instrument. We then learn new songs by playing either chords (harmony) or melodic lines, (melodies or scales). The beginner will also learn to use "proper technique" which includes playing on fingertips, thumb placement for the fretting hand and other approaches. The picking hand techniques include and are not limited to finger picking, or the use of the plectrum.

For intermediate player it's all about theory and practice. This level of student will learn scale and chordal theory, and apply them to existing songs as well as learning the new songs with the theory in mind. More advanced picking techniques and the ability to know when to use what picking approach when reading the the rhythm figures on the staff. Knowledge of song composition is ...

- Mr Mandel is the most patient instructor, which is good since he's dealing with an 8 year old girl who's not sure she even wants to play an instrument. Somehow, he manages to instruct and motivate her even when she'd rather be playing computer games.
- I also take lessons from him- I've got a music background but had no previous experience with the guitar before and Mr Mandel was able to adapt his teaching style to accommodate that nicely.
-I highly recommend him!
Claire
I am an adult who began guitar as an adult and I have taken lessons with Mandel for nearly a year. He is the single best music instructor I have ever had. He is incredibly knowledgeable and versatile, welcomes questions, and will take time to explain anything even if it interferes with his planned lesson. He is encouraging and incredibly professional. I leave every lesson ready to try again and encouraged to keep practicing. I highly recommend him as a guitar and music theory instructor.

Mandel is an excellent guitar teacher, and is very professional at his craft. He shows patience and works with you effectively throughout every 30 minute session! Thumbs up!

I've been teaching guitar since 2010, starting with a classical foundation and branching out into about everything I could get my hands on. I learned that there is a fundamental set of skills that make just about everything possible. I encourage beginner students to start with whatever they are drawn to, no matter how obscure or cliche. As they come along I help them realize what is common to all things musical and develop the skills that are equally useful in all styles so they have the freedom to explore anything their heart desires effectively.

About Jonathan

I studied music therapy and music theory at Temple University from '06-'10. Learned a lot. Then again, I learned even more teaching at a school for kids with learning disabilities and working as a traveling street performer. The first class was very good. We covered a good amount of ground. There's only so much an instructor can do during a first class as the teacher and student get to know each other, however, so I'm looking forward to future classes to get deeper into the lessons

"I have been with Eric for about over three years and must I say he is an angel. He's so sweet, kind, and patient. He never makes you feel uncomfortable and he goes with whatever genres you like. I've not only learned the guitar but a bit of the piano and he has also given me advice on how to improve my voice. He is one of the best teachers I've been practicing with and I so highly recommend him."

"I really like Mike.

First off - he is SUPER punctual. The one time he was running late I even got a timely text message warning.

Second - he is very good at diagnosing issues and providing the right exercise/coaching.

Third - he is very flexible. I feel him supporting my music choices... not imposing his still or preferences.

And finally - he seems to me (I'm not good enough to judge) VERY skilled as a player... able to deconstruct songs, able to transpose quickly, able to find alternative strumming patterns.

I really feel very good about recommending him.

"So far, I've only had one lesson with Adam but I am looking forward to lots more. Adam seems very astute & knowledgeable not just in guitar-playing but in music theory, which is exactly what I'm lookin for in an instructor. He's helping me correct a few bad habits I've developed over the years, on my own. The way he explains things is very simple & to the point. I definitely recommend him based on my first lesson. I'll see if I can update my review at some point in the future but unless something goes horribly wrong, I wouldn't anticipate much to changen"

I am a Veteran and have issues with learning new concepts, etc. Alex is able to work with me and is very kind and respectful. He definitely hands up is the best I have ever worked with including when I played in the high school band many years ago! I highly recommend him if you are looking to expand your horizons or just getting started again like me!"

I already had a decent idea about how to get around the guitar, but I wanted someone to help me get to the next level, to understand the guitar completely. Ahmad is incredibly knowledgable about the instrument and theory, perceptive to learning habits, and overall a fun person to be around. He's also incredibly patient about working around schedules. Best Surf Guitar Songs for Beginners

California, 1962. Few genres are as iconic as surf rock. Somehow the riffy, over-reverbed sound of early 60s pop-rock manages to perfectly evoke a very specific time and place while at the same time remaining timeless and eternally fresh. Addictive hooks, simple but catchy lead lines, and that irresistible tone! What’s not to love? Here are three well-known surf rock songs that are great choices for beginners just starting out on guitar. Each offers a different challenge, and a different s …

How to Play Slide Guitar (A Step-By-Step Guide for Beginners)

The use of a slide is an interesting concept on the modern steel-string guitar. The ability to use a hard object around one’s finger, such as a broken glass bottle neck, sounds bizarre to a player who has never heard of this technique before. Slide guitar is commonly heard in blues music and it involves pressing an object into the strings to create glissandos (slides) and vibrato to emulate a human voice. In this article we will discuss the origins and playing style of this unique technique, …
