Operatic Singing includes Classical Voice Training, Acting, and Language Coaching. As a working professional in this field I offer the most up to techniques based science.

Alignment is the basis a great technique. Each person is different, and knowing how to help them release unwanted tension is critical.

Vocal resonance is how opera singers are heard without amplification. Having an open throat and lifting the soft palate not only help your boost the harmonic spectrum of you voice, but also prevents you from pushing or over-singing.

The articulators, the lips and tongue, must be trained independently through exercises that coordinate awareness and motor skill.

The most important part of the voice is emotion. Anyone can sing words, but if you don't know what they mean or how to express them they become nothing but white noise.

Selecting the perfect songs for your age, voice type, skill level, and interest is really important. It is important to find music that you love

Can't say enough good things about James Moore as a voice teacher. He has helped me so much!! He is kind and patient and always knows what to say to help you understand how to sing. He is very knowledgeable about vocal technique and very quickly diagnosed the areas where I needed the most work. He helped me with voice placement as well as breathing the proper way to support my tone. Getting over my break was always a challenge, but Jim knew exactly how to get me to understand the concept and showed me just how to work through that difficulty. I highly recommend anyone, regardless of the style of music you want to sing, to take lessons from Jim. You will get control of your voice. You do have to practice though :)"

He's guided me in classical singing, sacred music, oratorio, opera as well as musical theatre. I couldn't possibly recommend him highly enough. He really is a 1 in a million talent.

My teaching approach and vocal studio embrace the singer's personal and professional journey.

Many teachers conduct voice lessons using a series of preconstructed warmups and vocalises. This is rigid and ineffective, as each singer's vocal journey is unique. My teaching approach embraces the individual strengths of the singer, catering to their specific pedagogical needs. Every lesson is different. Creativity, playfulness, curiosity, humor, exploration, sensitivity, and respect are held in a safe container during lessons, acting as fundamental collaborative elements of my studio.

I am joyful to have extensive experience collaborating with:

*singers and dancers performing on Broadway and national tours

*contemporary recording artists

*actors in film and television

*voice over and audio book talent

*university and conservatory musical theater and voice majors

*performing arts middle and high school students

I take pride in working with any person who has ...

It's rare to find a voice teacher that is honest, constructive, kind, and encouraging all at once, but that is Desiree! She is incredibly warm but is still upfront and gives truthful and beneficial feedback. She is playful and up to try anything, always welcoming ideas from students. I feel I've grown immensely as a vocalist through my time working with her. She has equipped me with tools and exercises I can do on my own when struggling with a piece of music that I constantly use. She is also so generous, and I have always felt that she genuinely wants me to succeed. Do yourself a favor, and work with Desiree!!!!!!!

Want to learn how to sing in Italian? In French? German? Latin? Spanish? I have been teaching voice and piano for six years. My voice lessons address human anatomy, posture, phonation, vocal health, vocal registration, ear training, theory, sight singing and rhythm reading. Students will also understand music fundamentals that will enhance their ability to analyze and perform music. All of these concepts are important for becoming a well-rounded singer, no matter what style or tradition you enjoy! Because these are one-on-one lessons, I record piano accompaniment tracks outside of our lesson time for my students.

"I can't imagine where I'd be if I had not crossed paths with Fawn. She is one talented woman. I am a coloratura soprano with a degree in vocal performance from the New England Conservatory of Music; when I met Fawn I was struggling to simply keep my head above water as I attempted to readjust to life in the city after spending several years recovering from a traumatic vocal chord injury. I had tried everything traditional Western medicine had to offer as well as several alternative healing methods but nothing was working to get me back on track towards the performing career that I wanted. Many practitioners that I had met with previously had at most a shallow understanding of the unique and very complicated physical and emotional demands of a professional operatic career and I was dispirited, hopeless and seriously considering giving up the thought of ever performing at all much less professionally again.
Since I began studying with her last summer, she has helped me find a physical and mental equilibrium that I previously thought was unattainable. In addition, I have gained an invaluable and specific practical understanding of my personal challenges and strengths as a direct result of the unique and deeply insightful ways in which she handles any problem I bring to her. In a few short months my life and outlook has changed tremendously. I had the courage to audition for and consequently booked my first professional gig since my injury, began the process of planning a production of an original composition and have been encouraged by my teacher to seriously consider singing for both national and international auditions next year. If there is a "Vocal Whisperer" Fawn is it.
To be truly understood as a performing artist (and one dealing with a vocal injury while attempting a career, is a rare and amazing experience. Not only is she amazingly well versed in several nutritional, spiritual and physical disciplines but her unique ability to adjust them into a specialized program for your specific situation and personality type make the service she offers invaluable and like nothing else I've ever experienced. Not only is she deeply empathic, compassionate, giving and sympathetic but she is also refreshingly disciplined in her ability to organize you and get to the heart of the matter. She tailors your lessons in a way that makes them easily accessible and memorable. She has the rare ability to inspire you. She never makes you feel judged, she never 'shames' you into compliance (like my other coaches did), but instead Fawn encourages and wins you over with a warm and comforting sense of humor and grace.
I am deeply grateful to have had and continue to have the opportunity to work with such an original, remarkable and talented individual. I can't recommend her highly enough and personally consider my lessons an essential part of a professional vocal career for anyone who wants to sing correctly and safely (and) stay safe, healthy, happy and sane."

I had never taken classical voice lessons before but have noticed tremendous growth in my breath support, vocal resonance, and ability to make my diaphragm work harder than my throat. He's patient, fun to work with, gives great direction and homework exercises, and pushes you as far you're willing to work. All of this and he's very pleasant and friendly which is the cherry on top. She is extremely talented, professional and prepared which is why I would say she is probably the wisest and most knowledgeable vocal teacher I have ever learned from. "I wrote a review several months ago after my first lesson. I have been taking lessons once a week with Michelle and Robert for several months now and felt it was time to write another review. I listened to a recording of my last lesson and compared it to my first lesson. Wow, what a difference! I couldn't believe it was me on the recording! My voice has developed a powerful and refined quality it never had before. My singing has become effortless and my range has expanded greatly and continues to expand. I can't recommend them enough. I look forward to every lesson because not only are they amazing vocal coaches, they are the nicest people you will ever meet. They are enthusiastic, encouraging, fun, and quite hilarious. My lessons always end too soon and I always improve upon my technique in some way after each lesson."

It is always exciting when a vocal student is ready to start studying his or her first operatic aria! One of the best things about being a classical singer is knowing you have so many great years ahead of you. After all, you’re considered in your prime in your 40s. That being said, realize that the voice you have now and the repertoire you’ll first study will be very, very different from what you sing later on in your career.
