Outstanding instructor of guitar. He goes above and beyond when it comes to teaching students how to play the guitar. He is very flexible, understanding, knowledgeable, and patient when he delivers his classes. Not only does he teach students how to play the guitar, he also does other things like teaching them how to tune their guitars, how to change keys when necessary to make a song sound better, and how to use a capo when playing the guitar. All of these are above and beyond what most teachers have taught me in the past. I really enjoy taking classes from my instructor.

I have been playing guitar for just over 10 years now. I typically begin with guitar when writing a song and love playing along to just about anything. With diligent practice, a new student on the guitar can expect to be able to play basic solos, read tablature and chord charts after just a few weeks. I particularly enjoy working with singer/songwriters who have intermediate experience on guitar because I have a handful of shortcuts and ways of thinking, that connect all the dots and cultivate musical proficiency in any genre. As with all instruments, the ability to replicate what you hear in music you listen to, is the most useful thing I can teach you. This is done with ear training and music theory (pattern based learning).

About Julian
My musical background is uniquely rooted in classical training and popular music (non-classical) experience. I have professionally played toured and/or taught on a variety of instuments including Bass, Drums, Guitar, Piano, Ukulele and Voice for the past 8 years all over the world. My main focus has been bass guitar, on which I've played in over a dozen local bands. In addition, I received my Music BA from CU Boulder in 2014. My classical training in combination with my experience as a song writer, multi-instrumentalist and band leader gives me a uniquely well-rounded teaching style. I aim to teach and inspire students to use music as a joyful platform for learning important skills such as diligent practice, cognitive flexibilty, and creative expression.

Growing up and playing in Hawaii and Colorado, I have had the opportunity to l
earn from prolific, passionate and talented musicians from all over the globe. With my students, I love to share my experience, appreciation for eclecticism, nuance and groove while also emphasizing the importance of a theoretical foundation in music and comprehension of aural skills (hearing music in a theoretical context) as a means to fluent apprehension in any genre. Ultimately, this makes me a very flexible and expeditious teacher. What would you like to learn?

If you have any questions, or would like to chat, please feel free to call me at three O three 5032572 or message me via my Take Lessons profile. I look forward to it!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide most necessary lesson materials, however it is necessary that students have their own instruments on which to play and practice. I may request that students buy some materials such as tuners (for stringed instruments), lesson books, or music applications, but these are optional purchases.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I can teach in my home studio in South Boulder if that is your preference. The studio has keyboard, bass, drums, guitar, ukulele and vocal microphones. Students should bring their own instruments to the studio lessons (drums and piano provided in the studio) Parents may attend the lessons if they choose.

*** Specialties ***
Pop, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, West-African Highlife, Funk, and Soul

***Some additional background to my experience***
I grew up "noodling". I avoided the difficult task of learning to read proficiently until I was almost 18. Looking back I realize that for me, music was a way to relax and pause internal dialogue. I would create music, especially on the piano that was entirely my own, and based solely on intuition. I got by in piano lessons and choir for so many years as kid by relying on an intuitive ability to aurally recall music and "play by ear". Eventually, I was turned on to the necessity of being able to read when I was accepted into a nationally competitive choral program at Fairview High School under the direction of Ron Revier. Shortly after that, I picked up a guitar and discovered music theory.
Realizing that reading, and theory were inherently different things allowed by to accelerate quickly at music theory which opened so many doors for me creatively. Suddenly, my ability to improvise in context and write my own songs was born.
I realized that every note I sang or played was part of an essential structure, whether or not I was paying attention to it. This is why I particularly enjoy teaching aural skills, sight reading, and music theory in conjunction with whatever repertoire or skillset a student wants to learn. These things facilitate becoming one's own teacher which is the most important thing I can pass on to a student. If you can contextualize everything you hear, you can more easily pursue whatever type of music inspires you.
Understanding theoretical things like musical modes creates a structure around the seemingly elusive nature of musical improvisation. It comes naturally to some, but is stubbornly avoided by others. I assure you, anyone can do it with some guidance. Through the years, I have developed a handful of shortcuts and tools that allow elementary musicians to start creating their own music that is not necessarily oriented in genre or style, but can be applied to all of them. I look forward to sharing my passion with new students!

Julian has spent lots and lots of fun time with his nephews and nieces (age 13-2), playing music with and teaching--ukulele, piano, guitar and drums over the last few years, and as a result they all have some great skills, confidence, and excitement about music. He's kind and very tuned in to where his students are.
I'm his Dad so I've seen how rewarding it can be for his students. He's also given me a basic set of skills on the guitar. It goes without saying, I recommend him highly!!

We hope you grow to love music and the guitar as much as I do. ROCK ON!

Blues and rock guitar

***Experience***

I have played rock and blues guitar for 30 years. I grew up with the Beatles and Rolling Stones, but now play in the Albert King, Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton blues styles. I know most rock, blues, folk and jazz styles with some knowledge of country and classical.

I have been the rhythm, lead or bass guitar player in six bands spanning 30 years. My current band is West of the Blues.

I was mentored by Mike Bruce. Mike was BB King’s, Bobby Blue Bland’s and Bob Seger’s lead guitar player for many years. He has played with everyone from Eric Clapton to Janet Jackson.

During the Mike Bruce period my band opened for him almost everywhere. He became my mentor and guitar teacher and only then did I start learning how to play the instrument that initially looked easy.

I have taught Rock Band and Guitar in Denver Public Schools for the past four years.

I have taught guitar and bass informally for about 14 years and our Littleton based lesson studio has been in operation for eight years with lessons taught more formally.

I also am the founder of and current teacher at the School of Blues Colorado. Additionally I am the Band Director for 3 of the School of Blues bands.

About Nathan
My name is Nathan I am a 31 year old husband and father of 3. My wife and I have been teaching music since 2007.

I am an experienced teacher of guitar, drums, and trumpet. My students range from age 6-60.

All lessons will be held at our home studio in Aurora, CO. Our home was built as a recording studio and it's perfect for lessons. Our dedicated, sound-proofed, teaching room includes a large viewing window so the student can be seen by parents while they wait without causing unnecessary distractions for the student. No drop-offs, please.

My teaching methods are based 100% on the student's abilities.
Here is a brief look at what lessons with Nathan B. will look like.

*** Lesson Details ***
Guitar:

Beginning players- I prefer to teach from the Hal Leonard book series. This is a great start for most students. I teach th
e string-by-string approach using simple songs to start. Your first lesson will be a combination of reading notes on a page and reading chords on a chord chart. You will come out of the lesson learning at least 3 notes and one chord. Weekly goals are set and a practice routine is discussed.

Intermediate players- After a quick assessment of your abilities we will discuss your future goals as a player. We could pursue classical guitar with additional lessons in note reading and fingering methods, or we could focus more on chords and strum patterns if you prefer to sing and play your favorite artists.

Advanced players- this is where it gets fun. We go where you want to go. I will provide guidance based on your strengths and weaknesses. We will choose music that can display your strengths, and challenge your weaknesses. Remember, there's always someone better than you!

Drum:

Beginning players- All of my lessons follow my own, proven teaching method. All lessons take place with the student at the drum kit playing 90% of the time. I approach all drum lessons beat-by-beat always with a metronome. My goal for the first lesson is to teach at least one basic pattern. We progress through a series of hundreds of different drum patterns that become increasingly more difficult. Every week is a new opportunity to practice clean technique and improve internal timing.

Intermediate players- After a brief assessment of your abilities we will begin discussing concepts of pattern construction. You will start coming up with of your own patterns and ideas. I will provide guidance for more complex fills and I will give tips to help you figure out the right groove for the right song. Every week is a new opportunity to add another tool to your kit.

Advanced players- come and teach ME something! I'm still working on super triplets and sextuplets in 5/4 time :-)

I also teach trumpet at beginner and intermediate levels. I have prepared many students for tryout pieces (solo, regionals, chair placement, etc). I also am experienced in tone improvement, endurance studies, range extension, and accuracy improvement. I use many different method books, but I prefer Arbans and Clarks.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Drums
5 piece Pearl kit- full cymbals. Beginner half sized kit upon request.
Guitar- bring your own acoustic.
Trumpet- bring your own.
Chairs, stands, and some music provided.
Hal Leonard method book required for beginning guitar students.

*** Specialties ***
Acoustic guitar- Christian Praise&Worship, classical picking and positions, strum patterns.
Drums- 4/4, 3/4, 6/8, quarters, eights, sixteenths. Rock, funk, ballad, pop.
Trumpet- range, endurance, flexibility.

About Diego
I'm a very passionate and energetic individual who enjoys working with motivated and energetic students of all ages. Whether an absolute beginner or a more advanced player, we can work on and refine your style depending on your aspirations and goals.

Style: I teach primarily classical and acoustic guitar focusing on contemporary as well as older styles. From Renaissance to Baroque, 18th century and modern, each lesson will be tailored to your needs and ability.

It is important to develop a good right and left hand technique, whether finger-style or by using a pick. It's also important to focus on sight-reading both notation and tab (depending on your level), that way you'll be able to learn songs a lot faster and easier. We will work on ensemble music and practice, so that playing with others is not a completely unknown experience f
or you. This will also make you grow not only as a guitarist, but also a musician. Performance practice is something that you'll be doing for the rest of your life, therefore performance anxiety is something that affects you both physically and mentally. For that matter, we will focus on maintaining a good posture while playing, that way you can give your best performance while playing.

Lessons: I teach primarily from home, and travel to students' homes when I have to. I have my own guitars, amplifiers and gear. Although I do ask the student to bring the following:

Notebook and a pencil (not pen)
Music stand
tuner

I can provide the sheet music/tab initially, although it's important for the student to purchase his own materials eventually.

Specialties: I focus primarily on three methods (although not exclusive).

1. The Principles of Correct Practice for Guitar
2. Pumping Nylon
3."Bridges" guitar series by the Royal Conservatory

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Best Regards,

Diego C.

From kids to adults - I love teaching guitar as a lifelong skill and outlet!

I was about 10 years old when someone taught me my first chords on a guitar, and I fell in love with it. I started getting serious with it when I turned 15, and I am now (15 years later) a full-time professional musician at a church. When I'm not working, you can usually find me in the mountains, working on my gear, or hanging out with my wife, Claire, and my dog, Cash.

I believe playing guitar should be FUN as well as relaxing - my best memories are of times I was playing guitar, and some of my best friends are ones with whom I've bonded through playing music. I love the idea of not just teaching technical skill, but teaching how to play as an outlet. Life can and is stressful, so learning a skill to manage the chaos is priceless.

Please send me a message with any questions - I look forward to working with you!

Andrew is an exceptional guitar player and a great teacher. I have a musical background and have owned an acoustic guitar for a long time but had never been able to get very far self teaching. Working with Andrew, we started with the basics and continued to build on stuff learned in previous lessons. It has been a game changer for sure! My skills are way past what I could have imagined and I have learned a ton in a short amount of time. Andrew is extremely knowledgeable, can easily relate to his students and create an environment that is comfortable for anyone to learn and ask questions. I wouldn’t hesitate to send anyone looking for a great guitar teacher to Andrew.

Great player and teacher!! Andy is a very skilled and patient teacher, which is helpful because I am an adult learner. He has played in bands and has a great understanding of theory and many different styles of playing. I was very happy with my growth in knowledge and skills from his teaching. Highly Recommend!!
