During my time with students, I strive to assist them in taking risks, discovering the joy of music, and making progress with their singing. No matter what their goals are- All-State Choir, opera, musical theatre, or just having fun, I love helping them reach them. By looking at different genres of vocal music, we will focus on many different aspects of singing, from music theory, to expressive performance, to the foundation of healthy singing.

I believe that every student is unique and learns in his or her own way. Therefore, I tailor the pace and focus of lessons on each student’s interests and abilities. I believe it is integral for all students to have an understanding of music theory and therefore, work on theory and sight-reading. In addition, I think a well-rounded musical education is key, and work on an array of genres with my students including folk songs, art songs, and musical theatre. Students will work on 2-5 songs at once, and will consider a song "learned" once ...

Meg is a great teacher who is extremely attentive to each person's unique voice. She doesn't try to force any particular technique or style, but it responsive to what works for each individual and where they are at in terms of experience and comfort with singing. She brings an overflowing tool kit of techniques and knowledge about the voice and body and uses them creatively and effectively to help her students produce their best sounds. As a teacher, my purpose above all is to unlock a student’s true potential, whether it be musical of otherwise. I do not believe in trying to make or force a particular sound with any student. When proper technique is instilled the voice will go in the direction it is meant with freedom and ease. My goal is to guide the student along their journey of self-discovery. My motto is “if you can feel it, you can repeat it”. What I mean by this is when a student experiences the unique sensation of using the breath efficiently or producing sound without tension a light bulb turns on and they now have a better chance of continuing proper technique. In order to help students feel these sensations in the body that are necessary for singing I use various physical exercises to help create more body awareness. For singers our instrument is our body, and everyone’s body is uniquely their own. I have found every student has his or her own method of learning, whether that is visual, aural, ...

I hold two degrees in voice performance—a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master’s degree from Binghamton University, the State University of New York. Currently a tenured instructor teaching Chinese and singing classes at Binghamton University, I am an award-winning teacher and an active singer. I have given solo voice performances in more than 100 concerts across the U.S. and China, including a solo concert at the United Nations Headquarters. I have taught numerous voice students at the university and privately, and some have gone on to win international awards. I teach vocal technique and singing in both English and Chinese. My strength is making complicated singing techniques easy to understand and apply. I teach students how to sing comfortably and naturally in a relatively short period of time. My emphases include the following: how to use breath properly to support voice, how to open the mouth in a correct way when singing, why smiling while ...

My teaching aims to develop a holistic, healthy, and passionate musician. I believe that technique is crucial to this goal, and therefore the main focus of my work. I teach breath support, alignment, efficient phonation, and articulation and diction through principles of vocal physiology and vocology. I am comfortable teaching classical, belt, and pop styles. I also strive to engender a sense of ownership and drive in each student through exploration of new repertoire and styles of music through a caring, fun, and detail-oriented studio environment.

"This was our daughter’s first class with Natasha. She had had only a few months of formal lessons before meeting with Natasha. I was impressed with how Natasha started by grounding her in the basics of good stance and breathing, not rushing into a lesson but making sure she understood the principles. Natasha has a friendly, engaging personality that immediately puts you at ease. Looking forward to seeing where this path takes my kiddo!"

"Erik is a fantastic voice teacher and is a wonderful person. I cannot recommend him highly enough. I have recently started voice lessons with Erik after a 10+ year break from singing opera and choral music, and I have learned so much from him already in the two moths we have been working together - posture, breathing techniques, analysis of the text and score, ....
Our lessons are well organized, very helpful, and a lot of fun. I look forward to my weekly lessons with Erik and hope to study with him for a long time."

8 Beautiful Opera Arias for Beginner Singers

It is always exciting when a vocal student is ready to start studying his or her first operatic aria! One of the best things about being a classical singer is knowing you have so many great years ahead of you. After all, you’re considered in your prime in your 40s. That being said, realize that the voice you have now and the repertoire you’ll first study will be very, very different from what you sing later on in your career. It’s absolutely crucial that you sing repertoire that is …
