Private lessons will have a focus on vocal technique and how to approach the challenging sections of the repertoire with ease and efficiency of tone-production. We will work on interpretation and phrasing, and will prepare repertoire for either recordings, auditions, or performance. Classes will always be tailored to the student's needs and goals.

About Michelle
VOCAL COACH
Rehabilitating and strengthening voices are two of my top specialties, and each lesson will have specific exercises tailored to helping you transform your voice into the highest and best version of your instrument. I work with singers signed to labels as well as the indie artist just starting to find his/her voice, style, and signature sound. My coaching approach incorporates some of the newest technologies that have shown extraordinary results in breaking down the inner blocks of each artist. It is a tremendously joyful and fulfilling experience to watch as my students really let their instrument shine brightly, boldly, and with an aboslutely stunning groundedness as they discover how powerful they truly are.

MUSICIAN/SONGWRITER/PERFORMER

Poised, energized, and armed with unforgettable performance ability, Michelle G
. is a firework in the artistic arena. Her training began at the young age of 3 with the violin, and a few years later received classes for piano and voice. Excelling in all three, Michelle developed a very passionate and dramatic personality that eventually led her to more dramatic genres such as opera and stage acting. Her aptitude to understand human emotions and relationships gives her a wide spectrum to play in as an actress. There is an organic flow to her interpretations both as an actress and musician that leads the audience to feel her emotional current. Her honest characterizations introduce deeper perspectives on what seems like the ordinary roles and storylines. Amongst the many other leads that she has played, her participation in roles like “Susanna” in The Marriage of Figaro, or “Donna Elvira” in Don Giovanni embody much vibrancy and integrity.
Through the development of her voice as a singer and actress, she has crossed over into other media such as voice over commercial work and vocals for pop/main stream music productions. She has recently participated as a vocalist and violinist in the albums of artists such as international jazz pop artist David Longoria, Latin pop singer Erick Bolivar, Grammy-nominated percussionist Souhail Kaspar, and American Idol’s Seysha. Over the last few years she has unraveled her musical skills as a songwriter/composer/arranger and has even had some small victories acquiring music placements on TV shows (NCIS, short film “Sumtin’ Like Dat”, The Dictator) for herself and some of her colleagues. Her singing can also be heard on the hit tv show "Jane The Virgin", "Castle" and "Shameless" amongst others.

Education
Michelle completed her Associates of Arts for Music/Music Education at the age of 18, and got later graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Miami with a Bachelor's of Arts for Musical Theater and Music Business, as well as from Florida International University with a Master's of Music in Vocal Performance.

*** Lesson Details ***
I tailor my lessons to my student's needs, style, abilities, and goals. Learning is truly a fun and passionate adventure for me, and my enthusiasm has consistently been a contagious quality :) I love to challenge myself & my students to discover how immense their true potential is, and I create a safe and fun environment to explore such facets.

My curriculum is combination of solid tradition (Suzuki method for piano & violin, and Bel Canto technique for singing) interwoven with pop-culture, and modern influences. Within the first 3-6 months, my students will know the basic building blocks of music - which includes scales, arpeggios, triads, intervals, technique, and performance repertoire; and for my singers this will include proper breath technique, tone placement, support, very often increased vocal range (both high and low), and will feel significantly stronger vocally and more confident getting up to sing.

Studied 7 years with Edward Kingens

About Patrick
The Vocal Artist

A rare 'natural' tenor, Patrick's range and versatility are evidenced throughout his work. From Bach Cantatas to Broadway tunes, he's even dared to sing Denver, bringing audiences to tears with his own rendition of Annie's Song. He is a torch song tenor, a la Rondstadt's 'Round Midnight but with the power and passion of Pavarotti.

Like most classically-trained tenors, Patrick can list many of the master works among his repertoire. Starting with Michigan Opera Theatre's Opera-in-Residence program, he performed in Madame Butterfly, Die Fledermaus and The Mikado and others. In Detroit & Windsor Ontario, he performed Bach, Schubert, Handel, Dubois, Mozart and Dvorak. While Patrick's early career focused on classical sacred performances, his real passion is to re-create traditional music in new ways. He recorded his
first two albums with composer Yves Vincent of San Diego, California in genre-stretching new-age/classical style.

After relocating to Tucson, Arizona, as music director for his church, he encouraged a variety of styles and genres to be used by the musicians and choirs of each of five weekend Masses.
Later, in Illinois, he directed another 60 voice parish choir that frequently performed with orchestras from Illinois State & Wesleyan Universities. His voice students in all these locations have been encouraged to explore and develop their own unique expression of their favorite music, while building on a solid foundation of technique, vocal strength and musicianship.

Now that Patrick has relocated one more time to Los Angeles, CA, he is working on a 3rd and 4th CD and once again accepting students. He enjoys the opportunity to expose young & older talent to the power and passion of classical music while also helping them create ways to make it new and exciting by reinterpreting it with their own favorite genres.

Lessons

Patrick's passion for teaching comes from his philosophy of music:
"Music is humanity's most evolved form of expression and communication. Music includes language, our physical senses, and our sense of meaning. With music, ordinary language is ultimately transcended. Words communicate from mind to mind; music communicates to the depth of the soul."

Patrick teaches and encourages young beginners as well as coaching and challenging seasoned professionals. He has even taught a hearing-impaired student to use physical sensation rather than sound to sing on pitch! He focuses on fundamentals of breath, technique and strength to help singers take care of their irreplaceable instrument. (Patrick's own vocal coach, Edward Kingins, continues to perform and move audiences in Detroit well in to his 70s!) Along with helping students build a strong foundation, he nurtures a love and commitment to music by working with students in the style and genre they enjoy most, from rock to pop, jazz or country.

Patrick also has unique insight into the entertainment industry, both in Los Angeles and across the country. Over the years, he has been associated with and close friends with musicians and actors such as John Denver and Richard Hatch as well as sought-after speakers Tom Crum and W Mitchell. Since locating to L.A., he has worked in independent movies with Damian Chapa and David Carradine as an actor and production assistant and coordinator. This experience, coupled with his own success on stage and as a recording artist helps him guide and advise serious young talent to maneuver the crazy environment of Hollywood and avoid the scams and pitfalls of the entertainment industry.

Beginning Lesson Outline

My Basic lesson outline is to determine where we are starting with each student and custom make lessons designed to fit the needs for that student. We will also work on meditation and visualization techniques for performance. The idea is for you to feel the words and sing with passion or so your audience believes your song.

Unlike other instruments, your voice cannot be replaced if it is damaged. I take the time needed through each step of the process so your voice is strengthened and developed properly. It is up to the student to practice and apply what is learned and build a trained, strong instrument that will be useable for your whole life.

You will learn:

Proper breathing techniques and practice.
Properly warming up the voice.
Working on music theory (reading music, etc.)
Ear training and pitch.
Expression, phrasing and performing.
Applying techniques learned to music suitable for student's capabilities.
Learning to have fun and enjoy the music experience.
Confidence and self-esteem

Depending on student's progress, specific lesson components above will be emphasized so that the student's goals will be achieved.
My goal is to prepare you to the best of my ability for you to achieve your dreams.

Awesome!

I needed to practice a solo for my Easter Vigil Psalm performance, and he helped me take care of my instrument, taught me great exercises, and gave me good advice about my career. He is a very nice instructor. He will help you grow as a singer and performer, and you always learn something new everyday with him...I highly recommend him to everyone because he really knows music theory.

"From your mouth to Patrick's ear*...

I was looking for an experienced and patient teacher, one who really listens, and am lucky enough to be able to work with Patrick. He not only hears the singing, but has the flexibility and talent to adapt to the needs and concerns of the singer. Highly recommended. *"From your mouth to G*d's ear," is a Jewish expression meaning, "May what you just said be true!"

Music is very important to me. I want my students to be inspired and learn. My students have been accepted into the top conservatories and universities in the United States. My students have also won major vocal competitions as well as film auditions that include singing. The teaching styles offered in my studio include classical, jazz, musical theater and pop. My teaching philosophy is that the journey to reach the height of technique and professionalism is how the student discovers themselves and their unique voice. I provide the student with the information necessary to guide them along the way. Singing is very personal and students who learn to sing tend to become very vulnerable during the process. Therefore, I believe in creating a safe and enthusiastic environment for my students to explore their creative selves. Enabling a singer to access their inner expression allows them to grow as a singer/artist and a person.

About Nani
Nandani is a lyric coloratura mezzo-soprano of German and Indian decent, known for her passionate performances and great presence. Nandani has performed with such organizations as the Los Angeles Opera, Long Beach Opera, Malibu Coast Chamber Opera, Viklarbo Chamber Ensemble, Malibu Friends of Music, the Kairos Musical Soirees, SPaCE Salon Los Angeles, Redlands Symphony, among many others. Nandani was the first-prize winner in the 2012 Franz Liszt International Competition; and in 2014 earned two additional International Prizes from the same organization, including a special award for “Best Vocal Interpretation of a Work by Franz Liszt.” As a teacher she has taught for the Los Angeles Opera as a teaching artist and concert lecturer and for Long Beach Opera as a preconcert lecturer. Her students have been accepted into the top conservatorie

I absolutely love being a piano and voice teacher! I have been a classically trained pianist for 17 years and a classically trained vocalist for 6 years. I have been teaching students of all ages for many of these years with great success and fantastic results! Currently, I am a Music Education major studying at UCLA with an emphasis on vocal and piano performance. I create a vibrant musical environment for my students, incorporating performance practice, music theory, technique, music history, effective exercises, personalized repertoire options, and fantastic semesterly recitals at the local Senior Center! I ensure that whomever I am teaching looks forward to lessons, and I try to make it a fun learning environment so that even the stubbornest of students can enjoy lessons! My students have the benefit of an experienced, classically trained teacher, who frequently performs all over the world and nurtures a truly deep love for music. I aim for my students to not just be trained ...

About Samantha
I have been a classically trained pianist for 17 years and a classically trained vocalist for 6 years! I am currently studying at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music as a music education major with an emphasis on classical piano and classical voice! I have been teaching both piano and voice lessons since 2011, and many of my students have been with me since the beginning. I have seen all students of my studio grow and flourish into fantastic musicians. I have watched my students perform the works of Beethoven, Mozart, Debussy, the modern music of Harry Potter, Adele, Disney, and so much more! I am incredibly flexible, patient, and encouraging with my students, and I do my best to ensure a musical environment for them to flourish in! Many of the parents of the students I teach consistently praise my likeability, relatability, and ability
to create a very comfortable learning environment for my students. I always try to not just nurture great relationships with my students, but with the parents as well! I am an actively working musician, performing frequently both nationally and internationally! My students have a teacher that is truly immersed in the musical environment and who is up-to-date with the latest in music repertoire, music education, and music performance; allowing them to have a very vibrant and ever-growing music-learning experience! I don't just love my job, but I love my students. Having the job that I do has allowed me to pursue my dream in the performing arts in such a fulfilling way. I assure you that as a teacher for you or your child, you will find me a great fit into their musical lives!
