About Kimberly

I grew up in a household of 9 where music was always center stage. We would sing as a family in different venues and were often called the VonTrapp family. I have enjoyed singing and performing from a young age. I began studying flute at age 8, after scoring highest in the harmony listening exam and began formal violin lessons at the age of 9. I studied all genres including, fiddle, classical, musical theater and 20th century. I have continued to study violin since then and have performed in many orchestras and small groups, such as Honor Orchestra, the Paradise Symphony, the Yuba College Orchestra, Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society Orchestra and more. I have been concert master and first stand in many of these. I have also soloed in many and have been the first violinist in quartets for countless weddings and other events. I have also played

in numerous pit orchestras for musicals.
I have been in choirs and soloing since I can remember. I have performed and soloed in choirs such as the Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society, CSUS Chamber Choir, the CSUS Women's Choir and more. I have toured to Victoria, Montreal, Ottowa, Oregon and Washington. I have also been in opera productions such as The Magic Flute, Peleas and Melisande and Die Fledermaus (The Bat) with CSUS Opera. I am a recent recipient of the Saturday Club Scholarship, a prestigious award, and have won many competitions (some repeatedly) both vocally and with violin, such as the Tri-County Competition, Young Artist Competitions, and the California Soloist and Ensemble Competitions. Additionally, I have performed musical theater repertoire and have performed as lead in musicals such as Beauty and the Beast and Into the Woods. I have also soloed repeatedly with the Yuba College jazz band and at churches all around.
I have earned my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from CSU Sacramento. I have my Associates Degrees in both Music and Early Childhood Education from Yuba College. Additionally, I have obtained my certificate of completion of training from Music Together, an organization which trains teachers to teach Basic Music Competence (both in tonality and meter), and am currently teaching this curriculum.
I have been teaching music privately for over ten years to all ages, genders and abilities. Additionally, I have taught ages 0-5 years in a preschool setting for 7 years and am extremely familiar with developmentally appropriate practices for both preschool and school age, as I am a site supervisor at a child development center with a preschool and after school program. I have had many adult students as well and encourage adults to enrich their lives with music at any age! Additionally, I have experience teaching parent child classes and am familiar with how to teach to the particular needs of each family and student.
I'm extremely excited and looking forward to growing as a professional, both teaching and performing, in both the areas of violin and voice and to be instrumental in your musical growth too; I can't wait to share my passion with you and to ignite your passion for music too!

*** Lesson Details ***
I have been teaching since 2002 and have loved every minute of it! I teach all ages. I tailor my style of teaching to each student's goals and to what works for you. If you want to learn Taylor Swift music, I won't be giving you arias. On the other hand, if you wish to study classically, I have repertoire appropriate for you. I teach fiddle, classical, orchestral, 20th century and more for violin students and have experience with jazz, classical, musical theater, pop, religious, spiritual, choral, 20th century and more vocally.
For violin students, I use the Suzuki method as a pushing off point, a tried and true method used in many countries across the world, though I have other repertoire including fiddle, orchestra, small ensemble, solo, concertos, Christmas, and more. For vocalist, I start with the book, Adventures in Singing. I also have warm ups and exercises to keep you vocally healthy. I will teach you anything you want to learn! I also teach how to read music, theory and harmony, depending on your interest and tailored to your current skill level.
I am encouraging and knowledgeable. I will meet you at your current level, be that beginner, intermediate, or advanced. My students can look forward to being encouraged and growing through their time with me. I don't have preset ideas about where you should be in 3-6 months, nor do I have a one size fits all teaching style. Instead, I will work with you individually so that you will become the best musician you can be, meet your goals, and increase your enjoyment and appreciation for music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in open space, upright piano, digital piano, music stands, metronome, violins available for rent, music, staff paper and computer

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my students to provide the instrument with all of it's accessories (ie shoulder rest, rosin, bow and case) along with the appropriate level Suzuki book. I have instruments available for rent. My voice students should bring their own music also. I have a piano in my studio along with music stands. Of course, every student must have a pencil and come ready to have fun learning! :)

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki, solfege, art songs and arias, reading music, fiddle, classical, healthy vocal technique and musical theater. I am very good at working with any age.

I have been working with Kim for a few weeks and I have learned a tremendous amount and can hear the difference every week as I progress. I enjoy the process she applies to keep it positive and fun yet learn the proper fundamentals required to perform well. I actually tried a few vocal teachers and Kim with her wisdom and experience made it simple who to go with!!

Kim can teach you or your child, no matter where you are!

I was 30 when I decided to rekindle my love for the violin. I hadn’t played since before YouTube was invented, and I was skeptical about learning violin online. By the first lesson, Kim had already corrected poor habits I didn’t know I had, just after hearing me play a few scales. She adjusted her teaching style to my personality so seamlessly that I felt I was just getting pointers from a dear violinist friend whose advice is always spot-on. Weekly practice never felt like work, because Kim tailored my assignments to my goals. Before I knew it, I was playing complex concertos I could never do in high school. I started out being able to play just one major scale. Within 10 months, I was in Suzuki Book 4!
I can’t say enough about Kim’s expert teaching skills. During a sight-reading of a very difficult piece, I became so frustrated that I wanted to stop the lesson and try again later. Kim encouraged me until I had gotten all the way through, and pointed out what I could learn from my performance. When I had time to calm down, I realized that Kim can do this for any student; adults, children, and adults whose inner child throws a tantrum when they’re frustrated by a musical challenge. :-)

Teachers like Kim are rare, and worth their weight in gold. I learned so much more than violin fundamentals through my lessons with her. I’m convinced Kim can teach anyone, of any age—even through an online platform.

Private Opera Voice Teacher

I teach a very detailed technique that will help you enrich your voice and achieve a wide vocal range using chest, head and falsetto registers with smooth transitions between registers, with accurate pitch, sustainable tone production, a clear frontal resonance mixed balanced by a rich throat resonance, coordination between breathing phonation, and resonance, clean articulation in English, German, French and German.

I am unique because of my combined musical and medical backgrounds. In addition to my graduate and undergraduate musical training and extensive musical experience, I was a surgeon and taught anatomy and physiology. Part of my medical training included studying the mechanics of how the body works and its application. In addition to the traditional methods such as imagery and mimicry that all singing teachers use, I will help you understand your body - precisely how to produce and resonate your tone, and how your breathing really works in conjunction with tone ...

About JoAnn

Your lessons are designed to help you develop the skills and confidence you need to successfully perform in public. I work hard to prepare your lessons and I ask my students to invest daily time working on skills studied at their lessons. Performing music requires the patient integration of multiple skills over time, however, the rewards are BIG.

During your lessons you will receive instruction in skills needed to sing or play the cello as well as musical skills including rhythm, melody, harmony and style. Because there is a lot to learn, I encourage you to consider 45 or 60 minute lessons, which I offer at substantially reduced rates to make them more affordable for you.

I continually update my teaching methods by attending workshops and master classes and I incorporate my knowledge of human anatomy and function, to help you

perform with minimal strain. Also, I incorporate internet resources in your lessons to keep them interesting and up to date.

What will your lessons be like?
At your first lesson we will explore and name the parts of your instrument (voice or cello). We'll talk about what you would like to learn, set attainable goals and select songs that you will be successful learning.

In subsequent lessons you will warm up with scales and exercises, using common intervals with basic rhythms to improve your technical abilities and gain musical skills and knowledge, such as hearing pitches and intervals and keeping with the beat. This will also help you learn to read music.

Singers will learn to use breathing to coordinate with your vocal folds to make a beautiful tone and sing on pitch, relax your throat and tongue to create resonant chambers, shape your mouth and tongue to color the tone, and use your tongue and lips to form the words.

Cellists will learn to transfer your body weight into your cello to produce a mellow tone, placing your hands and arms on the cello and bow in a relaxed and balanced manner to allow you to play smoothly and in tune and to prepare you to produce a lovely vibrato. Since cellos don't have frets, you will also learn to locate each note on the cello but just a few notes at a time - until you know them all.

You will learn to use your technical skills and knowledge to create musical phrases that sound beautiful and authentic and are fun to perform and listen to. You will need to practice simple skills and phrases repeatedly until they become habit. I will lend you my kind and patient support to help you through the bumps in the road.

Not sure how to practice at home?
To support your practice at home you will: Receive a recording of each of your lessons to practice with; Learn simple exercises you can do at home; Learn to create and use simple backup tracks of your songs to learn to hear rhythm and harmony; Learn how to use your computer at home to get feedback for pitch, and tone quality.

Nervous about performing?
When you are comfortable I will provide opportunities to perform in student programs performing for friends and families.

You will have opportunities to participate and perform in workshops which include performance opportunities, lectures, demonstrations and Master Classes with nationally recognized teachers and performers.

I received about 10 lessons from JoAnn and feel very good with the results. I started playing guitar and singing in a small band and knew that I needed help. Joann educated me with many warm up lessons, a good start on reading music, and numerous exercises towards reaching pitch that will also save my vocal chords from harm. It's up to me to practice and use the available tools that JoAnn has introduced me to while I take a break from lessons while traveling. JoAnn is a professional singing teacher.

About Lucian

Lucian W is an alumnus of Berklee College of Music in Boston and former faculty member of the Hartford Conservatory. His vocal studies have been with Jacqueline Jarrett and David Baker in Connecticut, Jane Ellison at Loyola University in Montreal, noted operatic tenor Carmine Gagliardi in New York City, and Gina Moretta (whose students have included Gloria Estefan and Jon Secada) in Miami. He studied privately with world famous jazz guitarists George Benson and Chuck Wayne and has had a full time performing career of several decades as a guitarist, pianist, vocalist, bassist, arranger and orchestra leader.
Lucian believes that by sharing his enjoyment of making music with his students, he can give them confidence in other areas. That is because, in order to make music, they must go through a process of physical discovery through pr

actice. They are then empowered by experiencing the connections between inspiration, work, and pleasure.
He performs, as a solo entertainer, an unusually wide ranging repertoire because of his versatility on guitar, piano, and vocals. Being an accomplished arranger with a vast library of charts also allows him to lead a ten piece orchestra as competently as a trio or quartet. He has performed extensively in New York, Chicago, Cape Cod, and Florida.

I always try to make lessons as comfortable and enjoyable as possible yet challenging enough to maintain interest. I build lessons around the student's individual interests (specific songs or styles) so that he or she can learn the technical fundamentals in a relevant context.
My own curriculum is supplemented by the following:
Guitar: Hal Leonard Guitar Method, Aaron Shearer Classical Guitar Method
Piano: Alfred's Basic Piano Course , John W. Schaum Piano Course
Voice: Jeffrey Allen's Secrets of Singing, Nicola Vaccai Practical Method

*** Studio Equipment ***
Hardman baby grand acoustic piano
OptimusMD1600 electronic keyboard
Crate TX50D guitar amplifer

*** Specialties ***
- Singing lesson time is generally divided 50/50 between voice building and repertoire. I accompany vocalists on both piano and guitar, teaching the melody notes as they are sung along with the piano. Then, once the melody is learned, I often switch to the guitar with just chordal backing. The acoustic guitar is also softer than the piano and lets the singer hear their own voice better. For voice building, I use my own concepts plus approaches of famous voice teachers like Jeffrey Allen, Seth Riggs, and Anthony Frissel.
- I am very experienced performing all styles of guitar and can cater to the student's specific area of interest, whether it be rock, folk, classical, or jazz.
- With piano, I work on fundamentals of reading and technique. Learning basic harmony and chord construction starting with triads (3 note chords), the student can soon read single stave lead sheets (a form of music notation widely utilized by professional musicians) as well as the grand staff. This approach trains the ear and makes learning how to play popular songs much easier.

Private Opera Voice Teacher

I am a trained opera singer. I will teach you classical technique that can be applied to any genre of music. I will never push you into a genre.

About Kerri

I'm an extremely positive and motivated person who thoroughly enjoys sharing her gift and knowledge with other people. I have a Performer's Certificate, a Masters of Music and a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance and Opera. I have been teaching voice lessons for ten years and currently run a private studio out of my home in Elk Grove, CA. As much as I love teaching, I also truly enjoy performing on stage. I have performed the professional opera roles of Lady Ella/Chorus in Cimarron Opera's performance of Patience. I was also previously a member of the Wichita Grand Opera Chorus, and recently performed in their productions of Turandot, Don Carlo, Guillaume Tell, Tosca, Otello and Le Nozze di Figaro. I have also performed other professional roles such as Belle/Chorus in The Forum Theater's production of A Christmas Carol. Throughout

my various degrees, I have also performed roles in Hansel and Gretel, Bastienund Bastienne, Dido and Aeneas, Die Zauberflote, The Lonley Empress, Les Contes d'Hoffman, Dangerous Liasons, Ariadne auf Naxos and Eric Hermansen's Soul. I began teaching voice lessons during my vocal pedagogy class, while getting my Masters Degree. I have been teaching consistently for a total of ten years. I began teaching for a community school for the arts in Muncie, IN. After I graduated with my Masters Degree, I taught lessons for a children's theater company in Manitowoc, WI until I started my Performer's Certificate. I taught for another community arts school during my Performer's Certificate in DeKalb, IL. After that, I began a private studio out of my home and have been teaching privately at my in-home studio ever since. I also have experience teaching Music Theory and Ear Training, Music Appreciation and Private Voice Lessons at the college level as an Adjunct Professor at Kishwaukee College in Malta, IL. I have always loved and enjoyed teaching! It has probably been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and I am always eager to welcome new students of all ages!

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach classical technique that can be applied to any type or genre of music. I usually start with standard singing and breathing techniques. Then I will listen to a student's voice and determine their range and pick out a solo song based on their range, ability level, and the preferences of the student. I am a firm believer that no student fits into the standard "box" of teaching. Therefore, I tailor my teaching style to match the individual needs, issues, and goals of a particular student. It is very important to me that students enjoy their lessons and feel engaged in the learning process. My biggest rule is that they need to have fun and enjoy what they are doing. I am a very kind, up-beat and friendly teacher that believes in positive reinforcement and constructive criticism. I encourage my students to communicate with me on an equal level and to always ask questions if they don't understand something. Watching people learn and grow as singers, and knowing that you had a hand in it, is probably one of the most rewarding parts of being a teacher. It is this ideal that fuels my need to teach others.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have set aside a complete room in my house for my teaching studio. I have a Baldwin spinet, a Manhasset music stand, a wide library of music and a sofa for students and their parents to sit on.

*** Specialties ***
Opera and musical theater.

I have played the piano in my younger years, and not playing it for a long time made me forget on how to read music sheets. It actually made me forget how awesome and fun it is to play the piano. And after a while, I decided I needed to get back on track. So, I checked out the list of instructors close to my home, and I found Andy. And yes, I made the right decision! HE IS THE BEST!!! I was so happy having him to teach and help me read music sheets and to play the piano again. He is funny and awesome! He makes it fun and easy for me to understand the lesson! He gives you pointers and he knows how to boost my self-esteem! I love the claps! <clap clap clap>. I cannot wait to do a gazillion more lessons with him! If you want to learn and have fun learning the piano, he is the one for you! Cheers to Andy! :)

"Mary is the kind of person that brings happiness to her surroundings.
I have studied voice with many teachers, but Mary's coaching is the first time that
I really understand what I need to improve in my singing practices. Mary’s advice is very accurate and she pinpoints these flaws. Only half a year has passed since I started practicing singing with her; however, I can profess that she is the best teacher I have had so far. I thought my voice was becoming rusty as I aged, but it is a happy surprise that it is improving! I also feel healthier since I started to learn from Mary.
Her voice training is good for anyone who wishes to improve her/his singing technique regardless of the genre of music/songs. I recommend her singing lessons for opera voice training, popular singing from the heart, or hobby singing and body conditioning. Mary's coverage is really wide."

"I lovvvvve Tanisha. She has this upbeat and vibrant personality; she's super sweet and nice. When it comes to singing, she has you pick out your own song
that you would like to sing. She doesn't bombard you with songs and training that won't enhance your voice. I've already noticed changes to my voice and I'm only on my 6th lesson. Plus, she's not a teacher that watches the clock, so if she feels you need an extra 10 mins for vocal training, then you will exceed your time limit with no problem. She's there to help you and if I had to recommend a vocal coach, then of course it would be Tanisha Hall :)"
