I teach acoustic and electric guitar. I am flexible in teaching different styles, though my lessons always involve a good deal of ear training and theory. My goal is not only to teach you how to play the instrument, but also to help you understand the music that you play.

About Alex
I am an Oakland, CA based composer and performer with 14 years' experience teaching private lessons. In addition to private lessons, I work with the San Francisco Opera's education department, creating mini-operas with elementary school classes. I also music direct the SFArtsEd players, a high-level middle school musical theater company.

My musical tastes and experiences are broad, ranging from classical, to musical theater, to rock and roll. I do not believe in rigid boundaries between genres and I am able to work with many different types of students to help them achieve their goals.

My teaching method rests on three pillars, which are common across all styles and instruments: ear training, technique and fun. Music should always be fun, and a good ear and solid technique are the quickest road to fun, effortless playing.

I look
forward to working with you!

I have played the piano on and off for 40 years but never really got into music theory. Alex has a great way of improving my technique in playing music and also finding exercises for me that make me FEEL the theory behind the music. It's great fun.

Student will learn basic technique to strengthen fingers including scales and other agility exercises. Rep will depend on the student's goals and needs.

About Mandy
I have been singing for as long as I can remember and started studying voice at age 15. I sang in my first band when I was in high school, then 2 others while in college. Professionally, I was a back-up vocalist and percussionist with the Sam Morrison Band from 2006-2012, where I traveled all over the country. This premiere Bob Seger tribute band is signed by Titan Tribute Media and has recorded 3 albums that can be found on iTunes.

I left home to study music at Cal State, Long Beach. There, I was challenged with more difficult subjects, like opera and Lieder. My appetite continued to grow as I immersed myself in performances, competitions, and traveling the world with college choirs.

I have worked in opera companies based in southern California, including Lyric Opera of Los Angeles, Long Beach Opera, and Celestial Opera. I hav
e also been hired as a soloist at various local churches.

I was a faculty member at Orange County School of the Arts, for almost a decade, where I taught Music Theory, Music History, and Musicianship.

As a member of Belle Musique, a hand bell trio, I played and sung for weddings, funerals, and private parties.

I got to wail as the lead singer of Pine Street Band singing classic covers from CCR to Blondie to Tom Petty.

In addition, I sing and play in a band, Wheel House, where we create a unique blend of rock, blues, and funk.

It is my belief that it is never too late to follow your passion, but you have to find what really makes you happy and fulfilled!

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach students according to their own goals and interests. However, I must include elements that are vital in the musical world whether the student is a hobbyist or leaning toward a professional career. My instrumentalists will learn all aspects of theory including rhythm, basic theory, and musicianship. My singers will learn about breath, anatomy, alignment, and performance. This is in addition to learning fundamental repertoire.

I have very high expectations for my students and do my best to motivate and challenge them, bringing out the natural musician. I am goofy but demanding and always develop a strong and trusting relationship with each and every student.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In home music studio with upright piano, electric piano, recording equipment, drum set, amps, guitars, bass, and seating for parents.

*** Specialties ***
Specialize vocally in opera, rock, funk, musical theater.

I also make it a point to teach my students songs they want to play, that way they want to practice and enjoy what they're learning!!

I told Kristina it was my first lesson, and that I wanted to learn how to strum. She taught me some chords and how to read tabs, which was great. But she spent most of the lesson writing out the tabs (would've been great if she did that before) and watching me strum. She made no corrections as to my thumb or finger placement, which a friend later told me was really bad for a teacher to not pay attention to. Her advice on how to find the best position was to "figure out what works for you". How would I know that as a beginner? Maybe she's better for someone with more experience.

Marc is a patient, and a diligent teacher. He's creative and applies multiple ideas in getting me to "get it" when I'm stuck. I am very pleased with my experience. He's an accomplished musician and I can tell he studies how to make others learn best. He also makes certain to praise my progress and, he's not afraid to shift gears if my playing interest is getting stale.

I came into this with NO experience. A complete novice AND, a left handed novice at that! After 8 lessons now, I've progressed really well and I'm satisfied with the outcomes so far. I'm on my way!

And, I highly recommend Marc!

Lessons with Marc have been a blast. I have never taken guitar lessons before. Marc's encouragement and enthusiasm immediately put me at ease and got me excited to be playing. He really went out of way to find out what I was interested in learning and gave me suggestions of new music to listen to based on what I want to learn. He does an excellent job breaking musical concepts down to make learning easier. It is clear he cares a lot about teaching and his passion for music is contagious. I highly recommend taking lessons from Marc!

I craft lessons that are tailored to YOUR musical interests, and bring over a decade of teaching experience working with students of all ability levels. I have taught in numerous styles, including blues, folk, jazz, rock, pop, metal, fusion, and classical. I create a sequential curriculum for each student based on your interests, that can include music theory, chord structure, scales, arpeggios, fingerpicking, strumming, and extended techniques including tapping, sweep picking, hybrid picking, harp harmonics, and more. All the while, musicianship and musicality are stressed! I hold Bachelor and Masters degrees in music.

About Daniel
I'm a professional guitar teacher, voice teacher, and choir director in the Bay Area. I teach out of private home/work studios in Moraga, Oakland, and Benicia, but also will drive to students' houses depending on preference and availability. I have been teaching for over a decade, and hold a Bachelors degree in music from Occidental College and a Masters of Music degree from the USC Thornton School of Music. I studied classical voice, classical and jazz guitar, and choral conducting at school.

While I have performed all across the country, my truest passion lies in teaching. I strive to present complicated music topics in understandable and relatable terms. Music theory, for example, should be exciting and interesting, not confusing and frustrating! I love to break down techniques on guitar into their simplest components, so that stude
nts attain a thorough and comprehensive mastery of the instrument.

Most importantly, I craft each lesson to the student's interests. Students following my curriculum can work on any genre they want, and achieve fluency on the guitar by studying the techniques of that genre, and then the crossovers of those techniques into other genres.

To be honest, I'm here to encourage people to play their guitar. So, I'm mostly going to work on the things you want to work on. In terms of my experience, I have been playing for almost 10 years. I started as a self-taught guitarist in high school and then I decided to actually study music in college. So, if you have theory questions I'll be happy to help.
My methods aren't too strict like classical guitarists. However, I do have specific exercises on how to practice more effectively and other things like chord studies. Again, I'm mainly here for you to learn how to play your favorite song, or how to be able to jam with other guitarists and so on. At the end of the day, I want students to reach their goals and enjoy playing what they want to play rather than being able to play all the chords and scales without enjoying it.

About Homayoon
Hello All,
My name is Homayoon and I am really passionate about music.
My journey of becoming a musician started with grabbing my first acoustic guitar in High School. When I went to college, I tried to pursue a career in Computer Science and Programming, but after a year, I decided to take my passion to the next level and study music, and learn about writing songs and be a musician that I always dreamed of. So far, it's been almost 10 years that I have been playing guitar (Blues, Rock, Jazz etc.) while studying music theory and composition in college. My goal is to become a RockStar \m/ (There, I said it!) but more realistically, I want to be a Performer as well as Song Writer and possibly pursue a path in Music Production.
Most importantly, I am here to help and encourage people to learn and play guitar and maybe help out with the und
erstanding the basics of song writing and theory.
I have written short summary about what and how I will teach guitar and music theory in each section and I'm looking forward in seeing you!
~Cheers
