With over ten years of professional experience playing all styles and genres, I believe together we can set key learning outcomes and joyfully help build your confidence as a guitarist. I will give you the tools you need to build a healthy relationship with your instrument in a safe and fun environment. My goal for you as my student is to reach your musical potential while having enjoyable experience.

I can help students learn standard music notation as well as chords.

I am a classical guitarist originally but I also play acoustic, electric, fingerstyle, blues, bluegrass, country, and rock, and I am a master of music theory. I have been teaching for over 20 years and playing and performing for 25 years. My specialty is fingerstyle and I can teach from beginner to the highest advanced levels. I teach at a major University and have been an assistant professor of guitar at several colleges. I currently play and perform in a band that plays all kinds of music from Folk to Funk, from Country to Blues, from Bluegrass to Ballads. I am a music theory specialist. I can teach it in general but I specialize in teaching theory for guitarists. Teaching music is one of my main passions in life!

It is rare to find someone who is both a great guitarist AND a great teacher. With years of professional touring/gigging experience (both as sideman and band leader) under his belt, as well as having worked as guitar/bass/jazz band teacher at Nevada City School of the Arts, Ananda is able to hold both of these aspects with ease. He works with all ages/levels and brings a comprehensive background of experience, both as teacher and performer, to the table.

A little bit about my life with the guitar:

I began learning guitar with my father and brother at home. Then I took electric guitar lessons in the blues and soul genre with a local legend named Carl "Good Rockin" Robinson. I also studied jazz and classical with Leo Cavanagh.

Later, I studied finger-style with Peppino D'Agostino, jazz with Mimi Fox, and flat-picking with Eric Thomson (website error won't let me spell his name correctly with a "p").

In college, I had the privilege to study classically with Scott Tennant and Pepe Romero, amongst others.
