I can teach Bass in a variety of styles including but not limited to: Rock, R&B, Funk, Jazz, Country and more.

About Ryan
I have been playing guitar and bass for 19 years. In that time I have written, recorded and produced 6 albums of original music and toured the west coast three times. In 2011, I began my formal music training at Shoreline Community College. I am well versed in the many genres of rock and roll as well as classical, jazz, country, and worship music. I have performed in jazz groups, worship teams, rock bands, solo classical guitar and played orchestra guitar in Shoreline Community College's production of the play "Working" by Stephen Schwartz. In addition to my varied performance experience I have contributed original compositions to 8 student games produced at DigiPen Institute of Technology. I am a well rounded musician with a ton of relevant experience and I am looking for an opportunity to share that with others.

Well, it was my nine year olds first lesson and we're all feeling optimistic, so that's a good sign! Ryan gave me some pointers on banjo shopping before I ever signed up for lessons, told ya what book we would need, and he showed up with parts I didn't know we needed! Looking forward to next week :)

Come learn about the different kinds of bass playing.. two-feel, walking, bossa and more! Bass is essential to my passions and understandings of music as it was (along with guitar) my first instrument, and I studied electric bass performance in Boston.

About James
*PLEASE NOTE: I don't travel to Bellevue, Mercer Island or anywhere that requires me to drive over I-90 or the 520 bridge. Sorry! 3 miles is my maximum distance of travel, and please take note of the time slot I have open (usually just a few).

I've been exploring music since age 13 when I started on guitar and electric bass. I've gigged around the Puget Sound area for over a decade and am passionate about many styles of music. I've played in jazz and blues ensembles while studying music in Boston and Seattle. I perform my own music. I play acoustic and electric guitar, electric bass, ukulele, mandolin, piano, drums and I sing.

Required Accessories: Music Stand, 3-Ring Binder, Sheet Protectors

Chords, scales and finger-picking are the three areas of guitar, ukulele and mandolin playing which I have my stu
dents work on each week (the areas for bass are; scales and the different types of bass playing methods). The format for my sheets is done in traditional music notation with a mix of tablature - the standard presentation for guitar books. Sessions are also divided more or less in half between working on fundamentals and working on songs. Music appreciation, learning to play with other instruments and play-alongs with recordings are also a part of my teaching platform. Students are encouraged to give song suggestions for learning, and it's one of my favorite aspects of being an instructor! My YouTube channel has some Student Favorites playlists with the most memorable and effective songs I've been teaching over the last decade. Cheers!

I bring one of my acoustics to my lessons.

In addition to studying flamenco guitar in Barcelona with the world-renowned Pedro J. Gonzales, Ian is also is a practiced percussion and drums instructor, and trained vocalist. He regularly plays in clubs around Seattle, is frequently employed by local musical theater orchestras, and already teaches a vibrant studio in Northeast Seattle.

I all levels on bass guitar as it is my second instrument. I have years of experience playing bass in the Los Angeles music scene. You can expect lessons tailored to students specific goals to help put them in the best possible situation for success.

About Jesse
My name is Jesse and I am a guitarist who lives in Seattle, WA. I graduated from the University of Southern California with Cum Laude Honors in 2015. I maintain a busy schedule of performances accompanying jazz singers in the area and I am on faculty at Cornish College of the Arts as an accompanist in the jazz voice department.

I began teaching beginning guitar lessons to friends and classmates in high school. Ever since I picked up the guitar, I knew it was something that I wanted to pursue professionally because of the joy that it brought me. Being able to share that with other people is something I am very passionate about. I continued teaching beginning guitar and advanced jazz harmony to other guitarists in the music program to help pay tuition in college at USC. I taught at Music and Arts in Redmond during the summer after finish
ing college before moving to the Bothell store within the same organization. I also began teaching at the Andrew White School of Music around the same time. I teach beginners on both guitar and bass as well as jazz improvisation on guitar.

Jazz is a style of music I specialize in and I teach it like teaching a language as I firmly believe that jazz is a language. I teach improvisation to not only guitar, but to all instruments as the concepts are the same. Improvisation lessons are fun and interactive and challenge you to be creative, which is what art is all about!

My teaching method is very flexible, as I am very aware that students learning styles and goals vary greatly. I am a patient teacher who will work to help put a student in a position to be successful and achieve his or her goals through lesson plans and teaching methods tailored to meet the student's learning style. Seeing students succeed and have fun making progress and improving as a musician brings me a lot of joy!

There is nothing more frustrating for a student than feeling like they're treading water trying to teach themselves. My goal is to make the learning process as fun as possible! One of the ways I do that is giving the student the opportunity to experiment with improvisation and explore the instrument during lessons and for when they practice at home to supplement the more formal training. This helps students develop their own individual sound on the instrument from day one, is fun and interactive, and gives the student the chance to be creative when learning a new instrument.

"My mission is to strengthen individuals by helping them build confidence, self esteem, and identity through the gift of music!"

About Joshua
ABOUT ME:
My name is Joshua Turner, I have been singing and playing instruments for over 10 years. I have been trained in the styles of rock, pop, blues, R&B, folk, classical, and opera. I got my vocal training from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where I studied voice. I was trained by the best vocal teachers in the country and I have lots of Berklee curriculum to base my teachings off of. I also attended Musicians Institute for guitar study.

MY TEACHING STYLE:
My teaching style is very simple and to the point, the goal is to learn how to use your instrument. I don't like to get too technical about it because it can actually slow your progression down if you do. The simplest way that I was taught to sing is that "if it hurts, you are singing wrong." That is why vocal exercises are so important to keep your voice stro
ng so you can build stamina and avoid pain, I also have audio vocal exercises that I can provide. I don't like to put people down while they are learning because I know that singing and playing an instrument is a really sensitive thing and that could cause the singer or musician to stop singing or playing completely, which defeats the whole purpose. I have experience in all forms of music from live rock shows, to teaching music in pre-schools. I teach confidence!

THE BENEFITS OF MY MUSIC LESSONS:

-Higher self esteem

-Better grades

-More confidence

-Stronger social skills

-And so much more!

You are actually learning all of the above things, while simultaneously learning your instrument! If you follow the lesson plan that I provide you, my GUARANTEE is that you will become a noticeably better musician and singer and unlock a new found confidence within 4 lessons (1 month).

MUSIC EDUCATION:
Musicians Institute- Guitar Performance (April- November 2010)
Berklee College of Music- Vocal Performance (September 2007- May 2009)

AWARDS:
Berklee achievement scholarship (2008)
