Upright Bass, Fretless and stick bass lessons for beginning students and advanced.

About Rene
Knowing at the age of 5 that music was my life, by being brought up surrounded by praise music and gospel, my early exposure to music helped me to find every Instrument and style just my thing! I wanted to play everything and learn all aspects of music. I started with singing in the children's choir and then developed into piano and music theory. At the age of 12 I began to learn classical guitar, and at 15 took on various styles like Flamenco, Jazz and Rock. I graduated from High School having played in the school band achieving recognition In national Institutions Like IAJE (International Association for Jazz Education) and state band finals. I was also composing from a very early age, and at 18 released my first album (self-titled) which can still be heard and purchased today through various music outlets, since i have released over 15
albums with various ensembles and bands. In college I already knew from my previous experience that I wanted to teach and pass on the joy that music brought to my life. I studied Music Theory and Jazz and finished my degree in Music Education. I have been teaching all in all for about 14 yrs. And I have enjoyed every minute I have spent with my students learning as much from them, as them from me. I am looking forward to meeting new and eager students who really want to bring their inner music out to share with the rest of us music aficionados! and develop their skills to the peak of their abilities.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching method ranges depending on the student. I believe in my experience that everyone learns differently, therefore everyone develops at their own pace. I try to find key strengths in each student and expose this to their advantage, using their abilities to further develop their skills, this method has shown the most promising results and students usually find themselves playing and performing just a couple of months after their first lessons. Part of my method involves a lot of performance and recital opportunities to help break any fears and inhibitions a student may bring with them. Music is about sharing, so an early exposure to this method helps to strengthen and stabilize a core acceptance of a students style and path, giving them and those close to them a very clear picture of their development and achievements.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Has all instruments at both his home and college studio

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide lesson material, song charts and a progression scale. I require student to have an Instrument and recommended technique literature.

*** Specialties ***
My classical training began in High School with Influences in Segovia, and Romero I studied classical for 4 yrs. and trained in Jazz and Improvisation with performances In Big Band and group ensemble. Also sang and played in the school gospel choir.

****Personal Statement*****

If you needed a reason

There is no question that music touches us instantly and activates images, emotions and memories that linger with us throughout our lives. As a casual listener or an obsessive music elitist, there are times in our lives when we get blown away by a sound so unique our entire body vibrates and resonates with the touch of something out of this world. I can honestly say when this happens to me I feel as close to a spiritual connection than anything I have experienced otherwise. I believe it is these exact events that have triggered my need to be completely involved in the making, performing and consuming of music. The creative process, to me, is the single obvious reason we exist in this world. We create and share, learn and interpret, build on previous ideas and inspire others to perfect upon this process. It is no doubt a very humbling experience to realize you are part of it all. During this process you come to realize how important you are as an Individual, how there is no other vessel like you in this world, nor has there ever been or ever will. You are here now and your voice, your talent, your gift is an instrument to the great choir of the human spirit. No one but you can relate this, a reason to be, to create, to give.

The bass is where it all starts. A good bass player is the reliable backbone of the group. I'll help you master the groove so you can jam out with friends or bandmates.

About Erik
I want to teach you how to express yourself through music. I've been inspired by music since I was young and have been involved in one way or another since I started piano lessons at age 3. I've been playing guitar for over fifteen years and written and recorded music for about eight. Whether you want to go into music seriously as I have, or just use music as a hobby and way to express yourself, I want to help you accomplish your goal.

*** Lesson Details ***
Each person is different and learns in a slightly different way. Having said that, there are certain essentials which must not be ignored. If you've never taken lessons before, we'll start with the fundamentals, how to hold the guitar properly, make chords, build up finger strength, properly tune the guitar, know all the strings, and most importantly play songs. You will lea
rn how to read basic music, but I can teach you how to play by ear too. Before we have completed our series you or your children will have basic knowledge of all these things and a desire to explore at least some of these aspects further.

For me, the most interesting music reveals the unique perspective and feelings of the person who makes it. Having conquered the essentials I will encourage you to be creative with your developing talents. I can teach you about song structure and I can teach you how to jam with your friends. If you are interested in writing and composing, I can help you with that too. We can take a look at your favorite artists and try to discover how they accomplished and perfected their sound. If you want to learn how to record I have a computer equipped with Pro Tools and would be glad to show you how to use it.

You'll spend time listening to me of course, but I hope to spend much of my time listening to you as well. If reading music doesn't inspire you we can focus more on learning by ear. It's up to you. You'll need your own instrument obviously, though you can leave it at home if you don't want to carry it back and forth. I have guitars here. I request that you purchase a book with text and exercises so that you can practice and study what you learn in the class. Even if you do not want to read music, you will need to know the neck and conquer scale formations and chords. We can choose the text based on your needs.

- defining rhythmic and harmonic functionality of the bass
- learning notes on fret board
- constructing walking bass lines
- R&B syncopation

About Lucian
Lucian W is an alumnus of Berklee College of Music in Boston and former faculty member of the Hartford Conservatory. His vocal studies have been with Jacqueline Jarrett and David Baker in Connecticut, Jane Ellison at Loyola University in Montreal, noted operatic tenor Carmine Gagliardi in New York City, and Gina Moretta (whose students have included Gloria Estefan and Jon Secada) in Miami. He studied privately with world famous jazz guitarists George Benson and Chuck Wayne and has had a full time performing career of several decades as a guitarist, pianist, vocalist, bassist, arranger and orchestra leader.
Lucian believes that by sharing his enjoyment of making music with his students, he can give them confidence in other areas. That is because, in order to make music, they must go through a process of physical discovery through pr
actice. They are then empowered by experiencing the connections between inspiration, work, and pleasure.
He performs, as a solo entertainer, an unusually wide ranging repertoire because of his versatility on guitar, piano, and vocals. Being an accomplished arranger with a vast library of charts also allows him to lead a ten piece orchestra as competently as a trio or quartet. He has performed extensively in New York, Chicago, Cape Cod, and Florida.

*** Lesson Details ***
I always try to make lessons as comfortable and enjoyable as possible yet challenging enough to maintain interest. I build lessons around the student's individual interests (specific songs or styles) so that he or she can learn the technical fundamentals in a relevant context.
My own curriculum is supplemented by the following:
Guitar: Hal Leonard Guitar Method, Aaron Shearer Classical Guitar Method
Piano: Alfred's Basic Piano Course , John W. Schaum Piano Course
Voice: Jeffrey Allen's Secrets of Singing, Nicola Vaccai Practical Method

*** Studio Equipment ***
Hardman baby grand acoustic piano
OptimusMD1600 electronic keyboard
Crate TX50D guitar amplifer

*** Specialties ***
- Singing lesson time is generally divided 50/50 between voice building and repertoire. I accompany vocalists on both piano and guitar, teaching the melody notes as they are sung along with the piano. Then, once the melody is learned, I often switch to the guitar with just chordal backing. The acoustic guitar is also softer than the piano and lets the singer hear their own voice better. For voice building, I use my own concepts plus approaches of famous voice teachers like Jeffrey Allen, Seth Riggs, and Anthony Frissel.
- I am very experienced performing all styles of guitar and can cater to the student's specific area of interest, whether it be rock, folk, classical, or jazz.
- With piano, I work on fundamentals of reading and technique. Learning basic harmony and chord construction starting with triads (3 note chords), the student can soon read single stave lead sheets (a form of music notation widely utilized by professional musicians) as well as the grand staff. This approach trains the ear and makes learning how to play popular songs much easier.

Learn to walk through Jazz and Blues progressions, play all your favorite rock songs and write your own bass lines. I teach technique and reading music, but I'm not an expert slap bass player.

About Matthew
Matthew grew up in Austin, TX attending the Waldorf School and playing music of various styles on saxophone and guitar. For his musical education, he took 8 years of private lessons starting at age 12.

His first teacher was Billy Green aka Wil Greenstreet who currently plays a residency atop the Empire State Building. Green taught guitar and saxophone lessons to Kelly back to back and unleashed a powerful passion for music within. When Green moved to NY, Kelly was refered to Scott McIntosh, a world-traveled saxophonist and arranger from Quebec. For Kelly that was when it got real..

After 5 years of jazz theory and saxophone lessons with McIntosh, Matthew was invited to join a funk band in High School and the band's SXSW showcase at the old Alligator Grill was the beginning of his musical career.

Over the past 12 years Kelly h
as gone on to play with a long list of different ensembles across many state lines.

At age 19 he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and once there studied under virtuoso saxophonist Joshua Smith and master guitarist Andy Tran.

Kelly found a residency with a local San Jose group and did six months with The Craig Robinson Blues Band while he was gaining music students and slowly transitioning into a full-time music life. He also played with Lowfat an established Bay Area original dance band, was hired by the Darell Patrick Jazz Ensemble for private events and recorded for The Jake Makey Band before moving to Colorado in search of a higher chance of musical success paired with a lower cost of living.

In Fort Collins, CO Matthew sat in as a guest artist regularly with local jazz pianist Mark Sloniker at his residency at Jay's Bistro. Busking paid very well and helped keep the bills paid. Then Kelly could pursue playing 2 instruments in an original jam band The Hot Coal.

While in Fort Collins Kelly gave 6 months of guitar lessons to 2016 Scene Magazine coveree Elise Wunder to help her accomplish her performance goals. Today she travels the world playing her amazing original music.

In 2011 Matthew felt the need to return home. Knowing Austin is the real place to share the music and being from here, he rode his bicycle back here and eventually found the musical projects that he plays in today.

Just had my first lesson with Matt and had to come home and immediately write about it. Matt is a fantastic teacher with loads of music knowledge. He truly has a soul for music and can easily break down complicated musical teachings to a beginner level. He is extremely talented and personable and I cannot wait for my next lesson. I have not felt this excited about playing in along time and a lot of this excitement is due to how much learned in my first session with Matt and how much more I have to look forward to. Matt is a true musician in every since of the word and I highly recommend him to anyone that wants more than just to learn how to play notes but learn to play soulful, beautiful music of any genre.

I recommend Matt to be your music teacher.
He's nice, chill, fun, easy to talk to, flexible...

I learned so much from his lessons because he can come down to beginners level.
The way he explains things are simple and easy to understand even I didn't have any music background.

I really enjoyed lessons from him. If my time works out, I would love to come back to his class again!

I will teach you to play bass with authority.

About Dyce
Dyce’s action-packed lessons get aspiring students learning real songs in no time—all while teaching them music theory and scales that connects the music to relatable, practical theory. His custom-tailored lessons are based on this realization. “I know that all of my students are unique, both as people, and as musicians,” Dyce states, “so I realized that my lessons should celebrate these differences.” Instead of following a rigid, “cookie-cutter” approach to teaching, he makes allowances for these differences, and custom tailors a lesson plan that enriches their musical tastes, goals, and strengths. Dyce has learned, over two decades of playing and teaching professionally, when to push students—and when to stay out of the way. This sort of expert guidance helps students flourish, because they learn music on their own terms.

I'm an enthusiastic bass/guitar teacher with 6 years of experience. I'm looking forward to teaching beginning musicians of all ages! My teaching style is entirely student-oriented, and I adapt my material based on what you want to learn. I often use my music theory background as a supplement, and occasionally I will give handouts and homework. I am primarily experienced in church music, but I've played bass in several rock, folk, reggae, jazz and fusion bands and am flexible and diverse enough to teach what you want to learn. Students will need their own instrument and gear, and a notebook or binder.

About Dillon
Hello and welcome to my teacher profile! My name is Dillon S.

I am a music and art teacher, and I have earned my Associate's degree in Music Education at MDC with a focus on jazz guitar. I have a diverse experience in different genres of music (rock, pop, punk/metal, jazz, praise & worship/gospel, and others). I have also sung and played guitar, drums, and bass in numerous bands throughout the years (most recently, drummer/percussionist in folk-rock band The Fortune Tellers in Miami, FL).

I have always had a deep love for art, and am currently working on my Bachelor of Science in K-12 Art Education. I have a particular interest in figure drawing/portraiture (charcoal, graphite, India ink), landscape and still life painting (acrylic and oil paint), and both digital and film photography.

I am hoping to improve my teaching skills th
rough this platform and impart knowledge onto others. I am laid-back and a kid at heart, and I find it important to teach with a sense of humor. For the record, I'm also a huge geek. I enjoy video games, superheroes, sci-fi, fantasy, animals (I have two cats), board games, cartoons/anime, technology/science... I also love traveling! If you're into something, feel free to talk to me about it, I love getting to know what you're passionate about!

Dillon was unprepared for our lesson in almost every way. We didn’t review what I already knew, didn’t establish goals, didn’t have a lesson plan in place, or a plan for future lessons. He asked me what I wanted to work on and showed me a few strum patterns and that was it. I was hoping for this to be the beginning of a set to lessons to improve proficiency but was very disappointed.

I am an enthusiastic and patient teacher that will put your or your child's interests first. My lesson plan is based on what my students want to learn and I will teach some theory when needed but keep relating it to the guitar to keep the interest. I am mostly experienced in rock and pop styles of music but I will cater to what my students like.

About Nestor
Hello!

I am a professional lead guitar player, mixer, and bass player. I graduated from Berklee College of Music for music production/engineering. I also play in multiple rock bands in the miami area and have plenty of experience playing live.

I hope to get some students through this app in order to teach them how to express themselves through an instrument or software of choice. I am a very patient teacher and think that getting my students to be comfortable with me and their instrument is of the utmost importance. To do that I usually try talking about what they like be it music or something else.

I had a fantastic time getting lessons from Nestor when I first started playing guitar, and then later again when I was what you'd call an "intermediate" player. What's great about Nestor is that he presses on the very important things about music and guitar playing but he also satisfies the curiosities of the student. If I wanted to learn something or practice something away from the lesson plan, we'd take some time to do them which was great because it kept everything new and interesting, and since it was always music related, nothing went to waste. Never a dull moment!

I believe that curiosity and passion are the driving force behind learning how to play any instrument. From basic beginners to more advanced players, my approach to teaching the bass is based on developing both your ear, and a strong foundation on the instrument. Each lesson will be structured based on your personal goal and your musical tastes making the process motivating, challenging but most importantly fun. We will work on sound, tone, time feel, ear training, technique, sight reading and some other tools I have learned through my experience at Berklee College of Music and working as a professional musician.
