Dear students and parents,
Hello and welcome to takelessons.com! My name is Jessica and I am classically trained violinist with over 20 years of playing experience. I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and recently relocated to Saint Louis County with my family. Music has always been passion of mine since a very young age, so it was inevitable that it would end up being my career. Naturally, a love for teaching the wonders of music followed suit!
I always try to form a great rapport with my students and parents from the very first lesson. For younger students, I encourage my parents to take an active part in both lessons and daily practice, as is encouraged by Shinichi Suzuki.
I've been teaching violin and viola professionally for over 12 years now. My experience includes teaching private lessons at students homes as wel
l as at various music schools, summer camps and festivals. A few advanced students have even attended and performed in some of these aforementioned festivals! I am always encouraging my students to go above and beyond.
A bit of background about me: I started my music studies at the age of 7. Lessons and orchestra were literally the highlight of my childhood. I ended up attending the Baltimore School for the Arts for high school, and went on to receive my Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Shenandoah University and complete further studies in England, Northern Ireland and Maryland (UMBC graduate certificate). I am also a registered Suzuki Violin/Viola teacher and have attended many teachers workshops in order to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to work with any and all types of students, including those with learning disabilities, such as ADD and FAS.
*** Lesson Details *** While I am a registered Suzuki violin teacher, I do not teach solely out of a certain method or "by the book"; I choose and mold every lesson depending on specific, strengths, weaknesses, etc. If you are a more advanced, serious player, more intensive lessons and repertoire will follow suit.
I am comfortable teaching all ages and levels up to advanced. Use of games make learning the violin fun and accessible for young children. Older and more advanced students receive a more technical, intensive and advanced approach. Coaching and weekly help on school assigned materials (orchestra/string class music and homework) Classical, Jazz, Gypsy and Fiddle styles are all introduced and studied to give students a rounded technique. Music theory (reading and understanding music) is incorporated in lessons. Repertoire is diverse and exciting. Various approaches for the visual or aural learner. Guaranteed to keep you or your child engaged and interested!
*** Equipment and Studio Lesson Details ***
-If you are coming to my home for lessons, please be sure to bring your instrument and any books you may already have.
**Please note, there are three cats in the house. They are usually isolated to a different part of the house during lessons to ensure there are no unnecessary distractions and to help minimize potential allergies (studio is also sprayed with allergy reducer spray and vacuumed regularly). All are UTD on shots. Please call and ask to schedule a "trial" lesson to see if the animals interfere with allergies.
New students: You may park on the cul-de-sac next to the house and walk down. I have a trial 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 size violin to use for the first lesson if your child is a beginner. After the first lesson I will send an email explaining what materials and equipment I recommend you buy to help you sound your best.
Places to rent or buy instruments will be recommended upon request.
*** Cancellation/Reschedule Requests *** 1) At least 24 hours notice is required if you need to cancel your, or your child's, lesson. You will be given the option to take a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons on your calendar, or the option to reschedule for a different day within a week of the canceled lesson.
2) If you find that you need to cancel with less than 24 hours notice you will be given the option to make up your lesson within 7 calendar days of your originally scheduled lesson time. If you cannot do a makeup lesson, this will result in the lesson being marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.
3) If you do not show up to your lesson scheduled at my home studio and no notice was given, the lesson will be marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.
4) If I need to reschedule or cancel a lesson for whatever reason, you will be given an option for a makeup lesson or given a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons.
5) I require two weeks notice to discontinue lessons if you would like to receive a refund or be exempt from paying future tuition.
6) All lessons are billed ahead of schedule and must be paid in advance in order to keep your lesson slot.

Whether you're a beginner looking to explore a new instrument, or a young professional preparing for an orchestral or college audition, I'm eager to share my passion of music and teaching experience with you. Throughout my teaching and performing career, I have been highly successful at helping students bring out the very best they can offer. Many of my students got accepted to study at major universities and music conservatories, and/or earned positions at orchestras or teaching institutions.
I'm strict and have very high expectations, but I was also praised for being encouraging and supportive. I strongly believe in the power of music, and the many benefits of learning a musical instrument.
Music has been my greatest passion all my life. Originally from the former Yugoslavia (of Hungarian descent), I earned all my degrees in violin performance: a 5-yr Diploma from the Franz Liszt Academy (Conservatory) of Music in Budapest, Hungary, a Master's Degree from SIU-Carbondale, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison). I've been teaching for 22 years, including 18 years as a full-time university professor (formerly Associate Professor of Violin/Viola at the University of Idaho, and Artist-in-Residence at the Universidad Juan N. Corpas in Bogotá, Colombia). Currently I teach at several institutions in Las Vegas and Henderson, NV.
Besides teaching, I've been active as a soloist and chamber musician (mainly piano trio and string quartet) as well as in orchestral playing (with more than a d
ozen professional orchestras, including the Las Vegas Philharmonic, Spokane Symphony, Wichita Grand Opera, and Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra).
My daughter loves Mr Ferenc, he is so kind, patient and thorough, and works with our limited schedule. As a former violin player myself, (albeit 22 years ago) I really appreciate how exacting his standards are for form and posture and I wish my early instructors had been of his caliber.
July 31, 2019
Ferenc is an incredibly talented violinist and mentor, who used to be a violin professor before coming to Vegas. Besides being knowledgeable, he is also very patient with kids (being a parent himself). He might travel to the student's location, but I don't know for sure.

This teacher has tons of experience teaching youth, and we recommend him highly. My kids just love their lessons, even during the summer months. It is difficult to find a truly caring mentor who doesn't cancel lessons due to other commitments, but this teacher really cares about getting things "done" in his music studio. Very friendly and encouraging.
Arie Schächter has been Assistant Principal Viola with the Seattle Symphony for over a decade. He has won several awards in international competitions, including Top Prize at the Markneukirchen International Viola Competition in 2001, and Third Prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition in 2000. He has a Master’s degree in music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of music, where he worked as a teaching assistant while pursuing his degree.
Mr. Schächter has performed in numerous music festivals throughout the United States, including the Aspen Music Festival, the Caramoor Music Festival and the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival. He has collaborated with members of the renowned Cleveland String Quartet and the Tokyo String Quartet. Since joining the Seattle Symphony in 2004, Mr. Schächter has been performing in various chamber music series in Seattle, including Simple Measures, Music of Remembrance and the Seattle Symphony Chamber Series.
I’m a professional violist, Assistant Principal Viola with the Seattle Symphony and the Seattle Opera. In addition to teaching viola, I am more than happy to give violin lessons up to advanced level, and can also teach music theory and composition.
We will work on developing good technique, as well as beautiful phrasing and musical expression. I think it’s very important to have a good balance between the technical, analytical, artistic and expressive aspects of playing.
With a Master’s degree in music, two prizes in major international viola competitions, and over 15 years of professional orchestral experience, I believe I can provide the highest level learning experience. More importantly, I give my students the tools they need to think for themselves, improve on their own, and become their own teachers.
We will work together to learn the fundamentals of viola playing, pursue students´ personal goals, and work towards mastering viola performance as an art.
Violinist Cody is excited to be actively teaching and performing in his hometown once again, having taught private students since 2012 and serving as a violin instructor at “Music for Kids,” a not-for-profit music school in Chicago. He has had extensive pedagogical training both at Baldwin Wallace
Conservatory (graduating Magna Cum Laude), where he received his Bachelor’s in violin performance studying under Dr. Julian Ross, and at DePaul School of Music in Chicago, receiving his Master’s in the same field of study under Professor Janet Sung.
Cody has a prolific performance career, working regularly with music of the early baroque through today’s newest compositions. He has performed with various chamber ensembles as well as Baldwin Wallace’s Symphony Orchestra and the DePaul Symphony. Cody performed the world premier of Eliza Brown
’s “A Soundwalk with Resi” with Ensemble 20+ in collaboration with soprano Jessica Aszodi at the 2016 Ear Taxi Music Festival in Chicago. Performing in Ensemble 20+ under the direction of Michael Lewanski, Cody has performed several other world premieres including works of Christopher Wendell Jones and George Flynn. Cody’s career has led him to celtic and folk genres, country, rock, metal, and jazz. He has appeared on albums from Matt Otis and Christopher Bell, and enjoys delving into many styles of playing. As a soloist, Cody performs frequently in recital, collaborating with many different musicians and a range of instrumentations.
Cody is currently a member of the Western New York Chamber Orchestra and serves as Assistant Concertmaster of the Southern Tier Symphony as well as Concertmaster of the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra.
Cody is a wonderful teacher. He is easy going, patient and holds a vast tome of knowledge in his head. Yes, he has a masters in Bach, but don't think he is snooty, he used to play violin in a metal band.
