Those who want to play viola are different- I love teaching people how to play this awesome instrument! The most important things in playing viola are intonation (since the viola often harmonizes with other instruments) and bow control, as that is the key to a good sound. You'll also learn rhythm and how to read music. Come learn the best instrument in the orchestra with me!
*Note: at this time I am only taking on intermediate students, as I can only teach lessons online at this time due to the pandemic. I would consider anyone who has been playing for at least 1 year to be intermediate level.
About Crystal
My name is Crystal and I've played viola for over 25 years. I can teach both violin and viola. I play professionally and just for fun. I have a bachelor's in music from Vanderbilt University where I studied with Kathryn Plummer. l love teaching people of all ages how to make music! *please note: in

Viola is the undersung hero of the orchestra, and I love to help violists learn this beautiful instrument! Though much of the technique of the instrument is the same or very similar to the violin, violists enjoy a great repertoire of solo pieces and high demand in ensembles, which I can help you discover for yourself. (Please see my violin profile for more information on experience and lesson style)
About Cieran
I love music, and I love helping other people find and develop their love for music! I teach all styles of violin and piano to ages 4 and up, with a strong emphasis on finding what kind of music each student enjoys and building a life-long love of music with solid technical foundations. I hold a

I love the viola; I'm primarily a violist and love nothing more. I would love to share my passion with you or your child!
I have a Master's degree in Viola Performance, and viola is my primary instrument. I have received extensive instruction on the minutiae of the viola, and can help you with any need that you many have!
I tailor my approach to each student. Some students require more technical work, some require interpretive. Both are fascinating and can be taught with structure and clarity.
About Martina
Hi! My name is Martina and I am a classically trained violist. For my background, I received a Master of Music from Roosevelt University, where I studied with Lawrence Neuman of the Chicago Symphony. She encourages students to get involved with chamber music and other orchestra opportunities to expand their ensemble playing, and she connects students with other musicians to collaborate on projects. She has coached our three children with their string trio and has helped them select music appropriate for their level and interests. Helen is happy to help students with their orchestra auditions, seating auditions, and ensemble music.
Helen is an active professional musician as a member of the CSO and Highlands Square Ensemble among other professional musical pursuits and interests. She is involved in bringing musical opportunities to underserved communities through El Sistema and involved in music education in Haiti. This summer our son was able to collaborate with a violinist from Haiti who was visiting Helen. They worked together on several duets on a few occasions.
Throughout the school year, Helen facilitates studio group classes where students can play for each other in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Helen connects students with excellent professional accompanists who are adept at collaborating with young musicians. In addition, she organizes 1-2 studio recitals per year where students can share their work with family and friends.
Helen is a talented musician, an excellent teacher, and a wonderful human being. She is patient, kind, helpful, and encouraging. I highly recommend her as an outstanding viola instructor."
