Bass is my primary instrument - I love playing bass! I also love to teach it.

As a bassist, my primary concern is with your technique. I will show you proven strategies to help you play with power, control, and minimal effort. These principals set the foundations from which all world-class players are built. Every single lesson is designed just for you. We focus on your goals while having fun playing music together. We talk about good practice habits and how to achieve new heights with your abilities. You learn to play songs that you recognize as well as improvising basslines of your own.

Bass is a fabulous instrument because it has the biggest influence on harmony. We will see exactly WHY the bass controls the music and HOW to get the results your ear is searching for. I cannot learn something without wanting to immediately begin sharing what I know. That's what inspired me to begin teaching, and it continues to drive me today.

My credo is, "Take fun seriously." There is a reason we say that we "play" music; it is meant to be entertaining, for the listener and the performer. I know you want to learn to play an instrument so that you have one more pleasure in your life, and not to take up a new profession. But I also assume the highest potential in my students. If something is worth learning, it's worth learning well. My goal is for people to say to each other, "There seem to be a lot of good guitarists coming out of the Madison area. What's in the water?" My bottom line: Whatever your personal objectives, it is my job to discover them and help you meet them, whether you're interested performing at the campfire or the concert hall.

If you do not live nearby, we can learn together through online chat via FaceTime, Skype, or Google Hangout. I ...

So far so good. Very patient as mistakes after mistake was made. Corrected quite a few mistakes I was making so that my habits would be good habits from the start. Let me talk to myself as I messed up and complimented me when I was on the right track.

Great lesson! Thanks!

complete novice; adult student. First lesson very relaxed. Excellent blend through-out lesson of questions and information my goals and background as well as instructor's goals for me and his background. First "technical" part of lesson was manageable and care taken by Lyle to make sure I understood what was being presented. I left the first lesson feeling this would be a good fit between instructor and student

"Dustin Newbold began teaching my son guitar lessons when my son was 10 years old and continued for the past 6 years. He taught him to play the electric guitar, the acoustic and then the bass guitar. Dustin taught him tabs, chords and reading music. He became affluent in each of them.

My daughter began taking violin lessons with Dustin and then took trumpet lessons. She progressed so much in such a short amount of time.

Dustin has a tremendous love for music and is such a talented musician. His love for music is apparent and quickly spread to both of my children. He chooses music that they like to play and that keeps their interest and causes them to practice without prompting. I have always been amazed at how quickly they advanced with their talent and knowledge and how much they enjoyed going to their lessons. My only regret is that he moved away from our area. I would highly recommend Dustin Newbold to anyone of any age seeking to begin learning a musical instrument or advancing in their own personal knowledge."
