I am an adult who has no experience with any type of instrument and was very nervous and intimidated at first. Then I met with Michael, and though there was a ton of information we had to go through, he really made me feel at ease. He has the knowledge, patience, and understanding I was really looking for in a teacher and I'm so happy I found him!

Private Viola Teacher

Arie Schächter has been Assistant Principal Viola with the Seattle Symphony for over a decade. He has won several awards in international competitions, including Top Prize at the Markneukirchen International Viola Competition in 2001, and Third Prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition in 2000. He has a Master’s degree in music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of music, where he worked as a teaching assistant while pursuing his degree.

Mr. Schächter has performed in numerous music festivals throughout the United States, including the Aspen Music Festival, the Caramoor Music Festival and the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival. He has collaborated with members of the renowned Cleveland String Quartet and the Tokyo String Quartet. Since joining the Seattle Symphony in 2004, Mr. Schächter has been performing in various chamber music series in Seattle, including Simple Measures, Music of Remembrance and the Seattle Symphony Chamber Series.

About Arie

I’m a professional violist, Assistant Principal Viola with the Seattle Symphony and the Seattle Opera. In addition to teaching viola, I am more than happy to give violin lessons up to advanced level, and can also teach music theory and composition.

We will work on developing good technique, as well as beautiful phrasing and musical expression. I think it’s very important to have a good balance between the technical, analytical, artistic and expressive aspects of playing.

With a Master’s degree in music, two prizes in major international viola competitions, and over 15 years of professional orchestral experience, I believe I can provide the highest level learning experience. More importantly, I give my students the tools they need to think for themselves, improve on their own, and become their own teachers.

Private Viola Teacher

I am a professional violinist and violist in the Boston area. I am a graduate of the New England Conservatory where I have studied with Miriam Fried, Donald Weilerstein, and Martha Katz. I have performed extensively throughout my life as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player on both the violin and viola in a variety of professional ensembles including substitute viola work with the Borromeo String Quartet. I draw from this performing background to teach my students of all ages and abilities.

I currently act as Adjunct Instructor of Violin and Viola at Merrimack College, where I serve as a primary instrumental teacher to enrolled students. I have also acted as the primary violin teacher for Main Street Music, LLC, in Waltham. Additionally, I run a private studio of 5-10 students as young as 6 and as old as 60. Of these, some never touched an instrument before our first lesson, and some are serious conservatory-bound musicians intending to make a career as a performer.

Luther loves to teach. At every lesson he is there for you, ready to help you. He has an extensive musical background, after studying violin at New England Conservatory with Meriam Fried and Donald Weilerstein, as well as performing and studying at many prestigious summer music festivals, including Ravinia’s Steans Institute, the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and the Taos School of Music. In addition, Luther is an excellent violist, studying with Martha Katz, also at New England Conservatory.

Luther loves to answer all of your questions. He will analyze and dissect your technical questions about how to play the violin: concerning tone, bowing, left hand issues, and how to use your arms, shoulders, back and your whole body while playing the instrument. He can help you with fingering and answer your questions about written music. He will demonstrate and help you play musically. He is able prepare you for your orchestral audition, help you learn concertos and other solo music and help you with chamber music. Thanks Luther for continuing to help me attain my dream to become an excellent violinist!

It's a blaze to work with Luther! He identified my problem very quickly and provided concrete advices on improving the sound. His understanding on how beautiful sound is made is very clear and systematic. There are so many dimensions in the sound making for violin but he always breaks it down and works on each individual part of my postures and bowing. My sound is now much fuller than before! He also not only teaches violin but also how to think about music in general. I feel like I am constantly critically thinking on how I can experiment with each phrase after I take lessons with Luther. I will highly recommend Luther if you want to find a violin teacher!

Private Viola Teacher

I have been playing Viola for 14 years at the age of only 23. My lessons include the fundamentals of the instrument as well as fun songs and activities to keep the lesson interesting. I have played in my high school top tiered select orchestra as well as our traveling school orchestra which gave me the opportunity to play in places such as Disney World, Boston, MA, and Baltimore, MD. I was also a member of the West Islip Symphony Orchestra in New York as their youngest musician ever and the Pima Community College Orchestra. My knowledge extends further than viola as a concert master in pit orchestra productions and student helper in the two additional orchestras my school offered as a violinist. I have a bachelor's in Law as well as a bachelor's in Italian from the University of Arizona.

About Amanda

Hi all! My name is Amanda. I am a recent University of Arizona graduate with a variety of experience as a musician. I have been in many orchestras including the Sachem High School East Symphony Orchestra (violist and student violinist teacher) (2010 - 2014), Sachem High School East select Chamber Orchestra (2011-2014), Sachem High School East Select String Ensemble (2011 - 2014), West Islip Symphony Orchestra (2012 - 2014), New York All-County Student Orchestra (2011- 2012), Sachem High School East Pit Orchestra (violist and concert master) (2008 - 2014), Pima County Community College Concert Orchestra (2015-2016). I was part of the National Music Honors Society for all four years in high school and performed at the New York All-State level with a total performance score of 96 out of 100. My teaching began in high school as a violin stude

nt teacher in the lower-tiered orchestras. I played and taught both violin and viola. By college I periodically tutored my sibling intermediate viola. I am experienced in both pop and classical music and teaching styles. I have also been piano a classically trained pianist for 17 years and have performed in many New York State Festivals as part of my training. I am extremely passionate about music, but also strongly believe in having fun while learning and practicing.

My favorite aspect of teaching is seeing each student progress! I started teaching at the age of 11 when my younger siblings began playing music, and I have coached chamber young chamber ensembles since I was 13. I customize each lesson, including style and teaching techniques, for each student. My goals are my student's goals. I'd love to hear from you!

About Lindan

I began playing violin at age 2 1/2. I started the viola in 2011/2012 and am currently pursuing a BM at The Juilliard School, studying with Misha Amory. I am a recipient of the Juilliard, C.V. Starr, Edna M. Rossum and Ann S. Alderman and W. Harold Alderman Scholarships.
I have participated in masterclasses with world-renowned violists including Samuel Rhodes, Lawrence Dutton, Steve Tenenbom and Brett Deubner, among others. Past summer festivals include Young Artist’s Program NAC in Ottawa, Castleman Quartet Program, Perlman Music Program and Yellow Barn Young Artists Program. In 2015, I placed 2nd in the Junior Division of the ASTA National Solo Competition. In 2016, I studied with Helen Callus at the Colburn Academy under the Greendale Scholarship. My viola and bow are generously loaned by the Maestro Foundation.

I have been interested

in teaching for a long time. I have taught my younger siblings since I was 11 years old, and coached young chamber ensembles since I was 13. I have given private lessons to students since I was 16. I love figuring out how each student best communicates. I constantly think about games or strategies to teach a certain technique. Whether you're interested in casual lessons or want to push yourself to the limit, expect lessons with me to be a positive, enjoyable experience!

Angie
"I have taken three lessons with Megan so far. Megan is highly professional but friendly. She has exceptionally good ears, even when the lessons are conduc
ted online. I just picked up viola a couple of years ago. As an adult viola learner, I appreciate Megan's style. She knows that we (adult learners) will improve with practice. She combines the basics (scales), techniques, and tone in each lesson. It seems that she sees my strengths and areas of improvements and adjusts her teaching style to match my skills. I highly recommend Megan to viola adult and child learners."

"As a former professional musician with an undergrad in Music, my standards are pretty high when I'm selecting musicians to teach my kids. My son has been
taking viola lessons with Regina for 2.5 years. She is professional but also down-to-earth and great to work with. My son, now an 8th grader, played a level 1 solo at the District and State ISSMA contests and earned a Gold at both levels--the only kid in his school to do so. We credit Regina for appropriately pushing him to be his best. You can be assured that when you choose Regina, you're choosing one of the very best teachers around."
