I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I have been teaching professionally for 17 years. It is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson.

With more than 35 years professional experience both performing and teaching, I understand what it takes to become comfortable and confident at the keyboard while having fun along the way. Every student has unique goals and abilities and I love matching their special talents to the methods and techniques that will help them feel successful and develop their love and appreciation for music.

Ive been teaching since 1999. I actually teach and proficiently play piano, electric and upright bass, guitar and banjo. Because of this, im able to fully understand how those instruments work together and relate, which helps in my abilities to teach a student all facets of the language of music. I teach reading, writing, arranging, theory, etc,
Music being a language, i teach it as such. So a student learns to fluently speak the language, read it and write it.
I started playing piano at 6 years old, classical music earning top 1% in guild consistently. Around 12 i was searching for something other than 200 year old music, but my classical teacher knew nothing outside of playing written music. I quit piano and taught myself guitar and bass eventually going to Shenandoah Conservatory for what amounts to a double major double minor in Jazz piano/Recording engineering and jazz and classical guitar.

Each student is unique; so I customize the lessons and repertoire to suit you, utilizing method books and learning music theory including note comprehension, rhythm and practice tips. In Classical piano lessons, more emphasis is placed on developing proper technique through scales and finger strengthening exercises with Hanon.

I’m passionate about music education and I am a full time music teacher and active performer throughout the SE Michigan area.

Lessons are designed and catered around each student and I believe in a well rounded approach in teaching music. While everyone will learn a solid foundation of note reading and playing technique, lessons also pull from sources such as music theory, ear training, music history, etc.

I hold a Masters in Piano Performance from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London and a Bachelors in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan.

I offer lessons in how to play, how to read sheet music, and how to listen to music. As your instructor, I will talk about your goals and form your lesson plans accordingly. I will also assign exercises to improve technique. I look forward to helping you achieve your musical goals.
