About Paul
Paul M is an American born, New York-based Piano teacher, Vocal coach, Pianist, Composer and Artist. As an educator, Paul is part of The Suffolk Piano Teachers Forum, College Music Society and Music Teachers National. He has been an Adjunct-instructor at New York University (NYU). Paul also conducts master classes and seminars in The United states and South America. For the past few years, he has implemented classes in composition and music history in the coastal area of Ecuador and New York. His music studio in New York City is in high demand. He works with piano, composition and vocal performance students of all levels and styles, which include classical, jazz, blues, Tango, and Broadway. In 2006, he received a Bachelor Degree of Music from Stony Brook University.
As a Pianist, In 2006 Paul was a prizewinner at the Music Club of Douglaston Piano Competition. For two consecutive years, Paul was awarded The Suffolk County Piano Forum Prize. XLNT Music recently wrote, “Paul is a fine pianist that performs with superb pianism and great sensitivity.”
 His recent public performances include Ecuador South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters NYC and The Staller Center. Paul has performed with The Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra and The New York University Symphony Orchestra. He has studied with well-known piano teachers including: Martin Canin, Morey Ritt, Tina Dahl, and Anita Gelber. In 2011 he released a record consisting of his performance of original compositions for solo piano that is available in bookstores and on iTunes.
As a composer Paul has composed music for the feature film Documentary Between the Shades, directed by Jill Salvino and premiered at the Soho International Film Festival in 2017. In 2014, Paul was the composer for the radio show Ackerman Associates Meets Dracula written and directed by Peter Stass. In 2014 he wrote the score for, Lies People Tell, a short film that premiered at the san pedro film festival. In 2011, he released his first solo record Succession of images, a song cycle for solo piano. In 2017, he released his second record Hope, a chamber music work recorded with clarinetist Thomas Piercy and Violinist Patrisa Tomassini. Recent public piano performances of his music include Ecuador in South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Spectrum NYC, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters in NYC and The Staller Center in Stony Brook NY.

As an artist, Paul is known for creating large instillations, paintings and live performing art pieces. From 2014-2016, he was the artist in residence at Spectrum Gallery in NYC. In 2014, he completed the Elevator Time Machine, a large instillation made of elevator parts that responds to sound. He also wrote and produced a 20 minute live art piece called Static in Movement for piano and video. His acrylic on canvas works have also been presented at Spectrum NYC, The Art Bar, The Gallery at Logos and Ward-Nasse gallery.

I am also a composition teacher. I work with composition students from beginner to advance. My composition students, over the years, range from all ages starting at 7. My students, after the first year, have been able to write string quartets and piano trios. My advanced students have entered competitions all over the country and are very successful in their composition practice. Some of their compositions have been performed in famous concert halls and schools.
As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.
Most recently I held a piano, composition and vocal recital for my students at the world famous Steinway Hall in New York City. I believe that some students work better when there is motivation for performance activities. For that reason I host these type of events. Students that decide they want to take place in these events perform among all levels. I offer these performance opportunities as an invitation. Each student has a choice as to whether they would like to perform.

Melissa was my first voice teacher, and I was so fortunate to have her. She was very patient with me because I was very shy and self conscious when it came to vocal lessons. She help me find my voice, and started crafting it using many different tools to help me understand the different elements that allows one to register sound. About Kierstyn
Kierstyn E. St. John is a pianist, composer, arranger and improviser who possesses an impressive repertoire of more than 500 memorized songs in every genre from classical to jazz to contemporary/pop. Kierstyn is also a talented improviser-- which she can do for hours on end in both classical and jazz styles. Because she has studied piano for over eighteen years, she has developed extremely impressive technicality from studying everything from Rachmaninoff to Bill Evans to Dream Theater. Furthermore, her performance experience has given her an innate talent of programming. She knows exactly which songs to choose for a certain gig; if you give her a genre, she can make a setlist that exactly suits the needs of your arrangement.

She has performed extensively in venues such as the Wigwam Resort, and the Ground Controls in Goodyear and in V
errado. She has played hundreds of events including weddings, memorials, private parties, festivals, and church fairs; Kierstyn was also the accompanist for all three choirs at her high school. She was the principal pianist for Northminster Presbyterian Church for four years and rocked the house as the pianist in the ASU Latin Jazz Combo for two.

Kierstyn just graduated summa cum laude with Bachelor's of Music in Composition at Arizona State University. She has studied with James DeMars, Rodney Rogers, and Kotoka Suzuki. Since attending college, she has been commissioned by Ironwood and Imagine Prep high schools, The ASU Barrett Choir, The Phoenix Art Museum, The ASU Art Museum, and Voices for the Voiceless. In 2014, she won the Four Seasons Women's Composers Competition, and her string quintet "The Monarch" was performed in September by their professional orchestra and her score for the play “Poseidon's Regret” received a nomination for a 2016 ariZoni Award!

6. Composing our own original music.

Practice makes perfect! Learning an instrument helps build self-confidence and discipline. If your child’s bored, distracted, or just needs a constructive hobby, music is a great place to get them interested in something that will help them feel better about themselves, and the effects will be felt across everything else they do, through better studying habits to a more patient, diligent work ethic.

It’s also relaxing! Stressed about work? Need an escape? Everybody has the power to learn an instrument. Seriously, there’s no such thing as “talent.” Just start lessons and get practicing! It really is that simple, and I’ll guide you through every step of the way.

I have a diverse background teaching students of all ages, from 3-year-olds to retirees alike, customizing what we learn to the individual student. We’ll learn how to read music just as easily as you read words; improvise and compose music of our own; and feel good playing any style: classical, jazz, rock, and all. My experience as a working musician in films, musical theater, and pop music, as well as classical concert music, allows me to appreciate and teach styles that many other instructors overlook, and I know full well that learning an instrument is not about becoming a professional; it’s about being able to connect to others or oneself through music… and also to just have fun! There’s no need to learn music we don’t like! It’s not about stuffing Beethoven into your kids’ ears… we just want to make music, be that Beethoven or Billy Joel.

Learning an instrument is one of those few skills that will genuinely last you your whole life. I don’t want to sugarcoat it: it takes time to learn an instrument. It takes practice, and sometimes it’s frustrating. But the results are well worth it.

“What’s that chord?” “Why does all my music sound the same?” “How do I fix this voicing?” “I just can’t get it out of my head!” …sound familiar? You’ve probably hit a rut. Thomas is a great piano teacher who is incredibly professional, patient and helpful. He is fantastic at noticing deficiencies in your playing and is able to get you to fix them without ever being overbearing or too harsh. He's incredibly patient, knowledgeable and incredibly flexible in his schedule. There were times when I had to change my lesson times and he always made sure to find time for us to get our lesson in. Thomas offers the best lessons for the best price! Whether you're a casual player or looking to help improve your chops, Thomas should be your first choice.

I've just picked up flute after (literally) 50 years and been taking lessons with Thomas for several months. Lessons are enjoyable, and Thomas has taken great pains to gear them toward my goals for learning. Every lesson includes technique, musicality, and theory, with the theory taught through practical application rather than just as an abstraction. He also gives me guidance on how to practice, which was one of my key goals for taking lessons. I was concerned about whether I could find someone who understood how to teach adults - and am very pleased that I succeeded!

Tamari Witkin is not only an incredible musician, but is one of only a few teachers who is deeply committed to making sure that any student she takes under her wing will fledge comfortably and competently. Tamari has a keen sense of exactly what is needed to help a particular student overcome a particular pianistic impediment to learning to play the piano. Moreover, she brims with such enthusiasm that it all becomes so much fun studying with her that one cannot help but feel like and sound like they are becoming a pianist.

I have an established private teaching practice and teaching studio. I have extensive experience in private piano, vocal tuition and teaching general musicianship, music theory, singing and instrumental teaching in schools, as well as 10 years experience as a vocal performer in the UK.

Hi there,

Just a few words to introduce my experience, approach and my work ethic .

I have a Bachelors Degree in Music, majoring in piano and voice and an established private teaching practice and teaching studio. I have extensive experience in private piano and vocal tuition and teaching general musicianship, music theory, singing and instrumental teaching in schools, as well as 10 years experience as a vocal performer in the UK.

In teaching piano, I teach rigorous foundational piano technique from the beginning, along with general musicianship. I like to incorporate teaching of general musical concepts, while encouraging creativity and imagination with the younger pupils that I teach. I also incorporate adaptations of popular music that children like to hear and play and try to stay responsive to the musical tastes of the student- while maintaining high standards in technique from beginners to advanced. I also address postural awareness and incorporate elements of the alexander technique into my teaching.

For those interested in singing lessons, I will first and foremost find out what kind of sound you personally wish to produce. Styles vary greatly across different genres. I will then help to diagnose your voice type and what difficulties you may be encountering and which may be preventing you from creating the sound you are aiming for.

I then show you ways in which the voice can be strengthened and balanced across the whole range and help my students achieve a healthy mix of head and chest resonance. This is achieved through exercises and vocal cues, enabling you to recognize the sensations that lead to good use of the voice.

Our three children (ages 5, 6, 8) were Piano students of Ms. Roxy. We were saddened when Ms. Roxy had to move away.

Roxy is an EXCELLENT teacher. She is patient with the kids. She is very professional in setting and holding reasonable expectations for the kids. Her teaching approach is holistic, providing a deep sense of appreciation for music. The kids love her and you will too!

I've had the opportunity to work with people as young as three and as old as 62. But as far as piano goes I've had mostly students in the Pre-K and early Elementary age range. My piano lessons are fun, engaging and comprehensive. I don't use one method, but have studied many methods, developed my own and customize lessons to best fit the student. My goal isn't just to impart information about music or technique, my goal is to help my students develop within themselves a living musicality that will be with them throughout their whole lives, no matter what they choose to do with their practice.

I've been practicing and studying music for nearly 12 years. Conceptual performance, free improvisation and Sonic sculpture for over 5. For me, music isn't just about playing an instrument. A musical practice is an opportunity for incredible self growth. Excercise for our minds and awareness.

I've worked with students ranging from age 3 to age 62 in the year or so I've been tutoring. I've taught piano mostly ,but am more technically proficient with guitar(electic/acoustic/classical).

I'm a songwriter and recording/performing artist, my style is very ecclectic and inspired by anything from classical, jazz, avant garde, to pop and folk music. I'm confident and versatile. Im comfortable playing or even performing with most instruments. It's taken alot of practice, reasearch, experimentation, and collaboration but over time musc has give
n my experience life and enriched my life and those around me.

My approach emphasises the importance of process, exploration and discovery, as well as the study and analysis of traditional concepts. I propose, active listening to be the simplest form of composition. And as musicians an active ear is central, not only in practice, but generally, for creative evolution and innovation.

I've found the most effective methods effectively balance theory and practice.

I believe the biggest inhibitor to growth, musical or otherwise, is a lack of confidence. A lack that comes from too much pressure to produce idealized results-- fear of mistakes...
