Few musicians or music students have identical goals, musical interests or physical size. So, It is NECESSARY to customize the course of study to meet student requirements. There are common issues for any serious pursuit of learning involving the guitar; right and left hand technique, fingerboard knowledge, chord knowledge, reading and interpretation.

However, to progress, it is also necessary for the student to practice daily.

I try to maintain a healthy balance between the focus on performance and technical issues.

It was obvious to me at my first lesson with Ron, that he is an experienced and top quality musician and teacher. I have enjoyed several lessons with him so far. He is patient, makes learning fun, great at conveying the material, and has set a learning pace that feels just right for me.

I can provide instruction on the bass guitar in my home studio or at your place of choice.

About Al
Born in Portland ME, Al's parents moved around a lot and finally settled in New York. When Al was 10, he took his first lessons in piano, then later trumpet, guitar, drums and at 13 yrs old decided to stick with bass guitar. At 16, Al joined his first band and was hooked. Since then Al has improved his craft studying with numerous instructors and gained real world experience through playing and touring worldwide with many bands and ensembles, most notably as bassist for Jose Feliciano from 2008 through 2015. Today Al is an independent recording artist concentrating on writing, recording and teaching music.

Every student is different. I've found that students have vastly different, ages, tastes, goals, and want to learn for different reasons. They also learn and develop in different ways and at different pa
ces. That said, I use the first lesson to determine goals and a general plan for each student.

I consider myself a "groove" player and in my musical world, my focus is on rhythm section work. To get there you must first learn several skills. Technique, Timing, Ear Training, and Theory are what I consider the 4 main "food groups" in the "diet" of any good musician. My job is to steer each individual student down the path that gets them there at their pace AND to make it fun. After all people don't choose to learn because they have too, they choose to learn because they want to. Why? Because it's cool and it's fun!

I like to dedicate a portion of the lesson to having fun with the instrument. A student may be interested in a certain band or bass player and wants to learn their song. I will ask them to bring me the song (I may already know it) and we'll learn it together. I like to play musical, or instrument related games to help the student learn in an non-stressful, happy and fun way. I think it makes a difference.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music Studio on first floor: 16 channel mixing console, computer music workstation loaded with Pro Tools, Digital Performer, Reason, and other music software, music stands, guitars, electronic drum set, keyboard, bass and guitar amps, seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect the student to have, or to buy a bass guitar, a practice amp with a 1/4" cable, a metronome, a manuscript book, and a pencil.

I can provide a practice amp, metronome and music stand for lessons only. I also can provide on site repairs of their instrument.

I have taught all levels of bass for the last 15 years. I specialize in walking lines, reading, and improv. I teach all pop styles...rock, R&B, blues, jazz, country, funk and slap.

I can teach reading, theory and technique.

I am very patient and adjust areas of study to fit my students goals.

About Kimberly
I started playing music around the Kansas City area twenty five years ago. I graduated from The University of Southern California with a degree in studio/jazz guitar (cum laude). While at USC, I received a merit scholarship and an award for professional leadership and service within her department. I also graduated with honors from Musicians Institute (GIT), of Hollywood, CA.

I have toured the U.S. and Canada playing venues such as The Portland Rose Festival, The Playboy Jazz Festival, The Santa Monica Twilight Concert Series, Irvine Lake Blues Festival,The Burnaby British Columbia Blues Festival and the Long Beach Blues Festival. The headliners at these events included Robben Ford, The Neville Brothers, and Johnny Winter.

I have released two solo CD's that have received first-rate reviews, as well as international airplay. Af
ter the second CD, I was biographied for AMG (All Music Guide) the internet's first source for music information. Here are excerpts from the AMG bio:

... there are also elements of Jimi Hendrix (arguably the first true heavy metal/hard rock artist), Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan in her playing, and she clearly has a strong appreciation of jazz--not only jazz-rock fusion improvisers like John Scofield, Larry Coryell and Mahavishnu Orchestra founder John McLaughlin, but also, straight-ahead bop favorites such as Kenny Burrell, Grant Green, Wes Montgomery and Joe Pass.......eclectic outlook is one of her strong points; her ability to move from a tough, aggressive blues-rock groove to a more cerebral, fusion-minded approach to the occasional soul-jazz/hard bop number has made for some very unpredictable albums.

I have been teaching full-time for the past 15years. I have taught all ages and popular styles. In 2008, my blues guitar method was published and distributed through Amazon.

*** Lesson Details ***
I incorporate a tailored curriculum to help people achieve their personal goals. Learning music is not a "one-size fits all" proposition. I can show you the songs that you want to play. I can also teach you music theory, technique, improvisation, reading and more. I adjust your course of study according to your areas of interest. If you are dying to learn a Led Zeppelin tune, or are planning on auditioning for a college level jazz guitar program, I can help you achieve these goals. I have taught hundreds of beginners along side more advanced students. My students have gone one to study music at GIT, Fullerton College, Pasadena City College, Berklee, Cal State LA, and USC.

Most of all, I am extremely patient. The ability to playing a musical instrument is measure on a calendar, not on a watch. I often work at a slow, systematic pace. I am generally very laid-back. On the other hand, if you learn very quickly, I can readily show you the skills you need to meet your goal. I have fast-tracked many individuals that were seeking admittance to an academic program.

My teaching studio is computer equipped. This allows me to incorporate computer software that enhances learning. One such program, Band in a Box, generates accompaniment for students so that they can work on their soloing skills. Another program can slow recorded music down so that the student can practice slowly with it. Also, I often give out play-along practice CDs for improved learning.

The aspect of performance is often not addressed by many. I am able to work with my guitar students while accompanying by performing live bass or drum parts, or work with bass students while playing the guitar or drum parts. This allows the student to understand his or her roll in an live band.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Dedicated music room room w/ guitars, bass, drum set, pa system, and seating for parents

Bass guitar fundamentals, how to play in a band, reading bass clef, scales, chords and theory. I do not teach heavy metal, hard rock or music with bad language or a bad message.

About Karen
Hello and thank you for the opportunity to serve.

There is no greater blessing than to use the gifts you've been given to directly benefit others! If you love what you do you will never work a day in your life!

Be certain, making music is unlike anything else you've done. At the same time, making music will strengthen everything else you WILL do!

Whether you choose me to help to you along the way or another teacher, please be sure to get a teacher that is patient, experienced and disciplined. Your first year of music lessons will either create a strong foundation or collapse under the partially built structure. Give the teacher a chance to make their point. Don't be too quick to judge based on the inexperience of the student. The fundamental lessons must be repeated until learned.

Whatever you do, get a teacher. Do not wa
ste time believing you can 'self teach'. Your technique needs to be monitored by someone who knows music.

I've learned a great deal in my 20 years of teaching;

- patience
- persistence
- keep it fun
- change it up
- don't compromise the fundamentals
- encourage musical discipline
- tuning, warm-up, scales, technique, repertoire, new material
- repeat!

It's my belief that music fundamentals are critical and we will create a solid musical foundation by learning the language, understanding the critical issues of timing, rhythm, reading and learning how to LEARN!

I enjoy working with all ages but specialize in children and adults that act like children!

Stay a child! Learn something new.

What are you waiting for?!

If you don't see an availability you would like, please feel free to contact me via the TakeLessons site and ask questions!

Open and individualized lessons will teach each student in a unique fashion to fit them best. Chords, theory and musical reading will be the main focus of these lessons. My individualized approach works well for many students so that they learn what they want, how they want, and see the results that they specifically are looking for.

Students can expect to learn anything from basic chords to advanced theory and improvisational techniques on their instrument.

Although bass guitar is a secondary instrument for me, I have always taken much enjoyment in playing and teaching it. I have been playing bass for nearly as long as guitar and feel that it is a very important instrument that could be just as rewarding to play as any other instrument. My mastery over bass comes more from my time spent as a guitarist, however I do understand many nuances behind playing bass and can instruct you confidently on the correct/required methods as far as this instrument is concerned.

About Chris
I have recently graduated college with my music degree and am looking to teach for a living so I decided to start close to home. I can teach guitar and bass (4 string 5 string and fretless) and college level music theory, composition and songwriting. I am also confident teaching left handed students and am great with younger students. If you have any questions, feel free to call, text, or email

Bass is the latest instrument I picked up playing, and I love it! Bein a songwriter and producer, I love how instruments work to make a song shine, and to support the feel of the song. Bass guitar is such a fun instrument, because locking in with the drums, creating dynamics and tones that can really enhance the performance of a band and the presentation of a song. I will teach you not only the foundational techniques playing this instrument, but also the creativity you have playing bass lines and rhythm patterns.

About Andrea
I was born and raised in Germany where I spent most of my life. As long as I can think I've always loved music, and soon after I got my first guitar at the age of 13 I started to write songs. Calvary Chapel of Santa Barbara is the reason why I moved to the US. I've worked as a music director for the church for these last 6 years, working with and leading bands, playing acoustic and electric guitar as well as bass. I also offer bass lessons for beginners, should that be of interest to you! Before I moved to Santa Barbara I travelled throughout Europe to play concerts and I published 2 CDs with original songs. You can find my music on iTunes.

Our daughter needed an amazing instructor, and I needed someone who was flexible with our crazy schedule. Andrea was both, and we have been absolutely thrilled with our daughter's experience with her. She is a very gifted musician and teacher, and her patience, sweet sense of humor, and wonderful ability with children was a perfect match for our girl. Her guitar playing grew by leaps and bounds, which was wonderful, but we especially appreciated how much her confidence in playing in public grew as well. Our daughter also learned music theory with Andrea, which took her playing to a whole new level. Andrea is creative, fun, and loves teaching, and we are so thankful for her!
