I teach beginner trumpet. I can help students learn to read music, play with good tone and technique, learn valve combinations (fingerings), and play from a book or school band music.

About Tina
I've been teaching private lessons for over 15 years. I am a high school music teacher/band director and a freelance musician. I'm looking forward to making music with you!

Your lessons are up to you! If you know what you want to learn, I'll help get you there. If you don't know where to start, I can lead you through the fundamentals and help you set goals.

I like to keep things positive in music lessons. Music is, after all, for fun and enjoyment! I like to blend teaching technique and musicianship, while keeping things fun.

If you're a beginner, we'll get started with all the fundamentals you need to begin making music. If you've been playing for a while, I'll help you perfect things you've been working on, expand your musical experience, and help you reach your fullest potential as a musician.

My home studio has chairs, mus
ic stand, and areas for parents to sit in on lessons. Garage band is available for recording. Students need an instrument and books.

I have been teaching trumpet for 22 years. I have an earned Masters degree in music and enjoy teaching students of all ages. I am happily married with 5 children at home--4 of them are musicians as well (the youngest is 4).. Students will quickly learn not only the basics of music theory, but will be playing songs as early as their first lesson. It is extremely rewarding watching students have fun, excel, and fall in love with making music. I presently teach music at 3 schools (1 college) and only have a few lessons slots available. I look forward to working with you.

About Doyle
Hello, my name is Doyle B. and I am eager to help you reach your goals! I've been teaching private lessons since 1992 and have loved helping my students win competitions at the state level, learn how to advance rapidly on their instrument, and fall in love with making music. I have 3 earned degrees from Pensacola Christian College (B.S. in Music Ed., 1992), Hobe Sound Bible College (A.A., 1993) and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Church Music, 1996). I presently employed at Hobe Sound Bible College and Christian Academy. I presently have 4 students in China and the Turks and Caicos Islands that I teach using Skype. Fortunately, I have a few openings
in my schedule to teach any one who is serious about excelling on his/her instrument. I look forward to helping you reach your potential.

There is not enough that I can say about Mr. Blackwell's teaching. Under his instructions, I have learned not only to play the bass by ear, but also I am able to read and understand music theory. Mr. Blackwell constantly challenges you to go further with every lesson. The best part of the class is the jam sessions! I love playing songs being the lead at times and a support to the band. I can't wait to play with our lead guitarist Michael. If you are looking for a music instructor, I highly recommend that you check out Mr. Blackwell!

It’s important when you’re investing in yourself that you get what you pay for. Every time I leave class, I leave with something. Something new, something fun, and full of knowledge. My beginning trumpet students will learn trumpet playing basics, care, as well as how to read notes of the treble clef. Basic music theory, along with major scales, will also be taught (time signatures, note durations, etc.). Students will learn technical skills as well as musical skills in a comfortable, fun environment. I typically use either the "Best in Class" book series or the "Essential Elements" book series. :)

My intermediate trumpet students will continue to build upon the beginning framework. We will work on various scales other than major scales. More challenging music will be covered! :)

About Elyse
Who has music and teaching as their biggest passion?

See below... :)

Hello, Parents & Students!
My name is Elyse (the answer is me!), and I teach a wide array of great (mainly musical) things! Thank you for checking out my page!
A few key points to know about me:
*I graduated from Kent State University (Kent, OH) in December, 2009, with my Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree (Magna cum Laude).
*I’ve taught music in small ensembles and marching band camps since July, 2007.
*I taught from 2010-2016 in the Texas Public Schools as a General Music teacher/Choir Director.
*I taught theatre for one year.
*I am a VERY enthusiastic, fun-loving teacher who enjoys laughter and bringing smiles to my students.
*I structure our lessons in such a way that we have fun while remaining on track.
*The Clarinet was my instrument of st
udy in college.
*RANDOM: I love to read, sing, and listen to music, I love cats, chocolate, and my family/friends. Pink is my favorite color, and Hanson is my favorite band!
*My most recent new student, after his second lesson, asked if he could take piano more than once a week because “it’s so fun!” 😊

***Philosophy***
—If you're going to make a mistake, make a loud one!

-My students know (I make sure of this) right off the bat that it's okay to make mistakes! My philosophy is: YOU make mistakes. Mistakes don't make YOU. We fix them together, and we learn together. Also: never apologize for making a mistake; that is why we’re working together and you’re practicing at home!

***Teaching Style***
-I'm definitely a fun-loving, outgoing person.
-My teaching style is tailored to each of my students;
-I try to think-outside-the-box as much as possible and utilize creativity.
-I talk as little as possible in lessons; my goal is for the student to play as much as possible. With beginners, I may have to talk a bit more.
-I often model for the student what they should do: example: middle c position on the piano.
-If seeing ME isn’t enough for my visual learners, I will utilize a video clip.
-For my tactile learners, sometimes I have to move their fingers into position myself.
-For my sound learners, I will play or sing a pitch, show them the slide position or fingering to that note, and have them try to match it by ear.
-I also question my students.
-I have many other techniques as well.
-I am VERY much pro Positive Reinforcement!

*** Lesson Details ***
-I am NOT a rigid teacher; I am pretty relaxed.
-Although I am relaxed, I AM very adamant about practicing between lessons - no matter what type of instrument you/your child may be learning. It is the only way to improve. :)
-We will ALWAYS begin with a warm-up, we may/may not move into rhythm exercises, possible ear training, music theory, and the music.
-The list of all that I teach is on my page, but I teach all wind instruments (woodwind/brass), piano, and voice. I also teach acting techniques and improvisation skills.
-I am VERY flexible where scheduling is concerned.

***Student Responsibilities:***
-Daily practice is strongly recommended. It is important and necessary for steady progress.
-For piano lessons, students should have neat, clean, trimmed nails at every lesson.
-Students should bring water to voice lessons.
-Reed players should ensure they have working/non-cracked reeds.
-Brass players should ensure all valves/slides are oiled/greased.
-Students must be prepared for each lesson.
-Always have a pencil (not a pen).

***Parents’ Responsibilities:***
-Parents should remain until their child’s lesson is complete.
-Parents should regularly check and support the student’s practice routine.

*** Studio Equipment ***
-One Yamaha keyboard w/pedal; space for parents to sit and observe lessons.
-Music stand
-Square chairs to sit on

IMPORTANT NOTE: My home, where my studio is located, is inhabited by four very sweet cats. Keep this in mind when you plan to sign up for lessons. :)

I so look forward to hearing from you!!

Working with kids and adults on music is enjoyable and fulfilling, and I strive to help students as much as possible.

Good day!
I have taught occasional trumpet lessons ever since I was in High School six years ago. Beginner trumpet students start with basics such as lip buzzing, mouthpiece buzzing, and easy songs. Eventually, they will learn about playing with a desirable tone as well as instruction on playing solos and etudes. I play both classical and jazz music on trumpet.
If I sound like a fit, then don't hesitate to press the green button!

About Edward
You may think it’s strange to talk about a story that is unrelated to music, but read on to find out why this story is important to Alex’s life as a music teacher. Alex has always been a curious guy. Having worn glasses for his entire life, Alex was interested to see what contacts were like. Usually, he would have just accepted what he was told. However, this time, he was determined to wear contacts. So, Alex attended a different eye doctor rather than his original doctor. Even then, he was told that he would not be able to wear contacts. But he was still determined to try them out. Surprisingly, the contacts worked! Little did Alex know that this would be the start of a different chapter in his life.

It was perhaps not surprising, then, that a new emphasis on education had begun to develop. Shortly afterwards, Alex accepted a new job
as a piano teacher at the Piano Studio. Using the lessons he had learned from his visit to the doctor, he started to form his philosophy on teaching. No matter what the challenges of the student, Alex will always strive to work through those challenges and do his best to successfully teach that student.

There have been a few piano beginners that have come by the Piano Studio that were assigned to Alex’s teaching roster. When they started, they were clearly some of the hardest beginners he has had to work with. One parent even remarked that her child would be impossible to teach. That parent was fortunately wrong! For months, now, this student follows Alex's instructions very clearly and has been paying attention every lesson. This is an example of how Alex's tenacity has paid off.

With a full studio of nearly twenty students per week while attending San Jacinto College, Alex stuck by with this principle of never giving up. Even when it seemed discouraging, he never gave up on any of his students as long as his students never give up on themselves. This, he believes, is what separates teachers who are passionate at their work, and teachers who just try to get by.

Currently, Alex teaches at a piano studio in Webster, TX, while attending the University of St. Thomas. Additionally, he performs weekly at a local Church as the staff organist and pianist.

Edward's a very patient teacher and accomplished pianist. I've played the piano a bit on my own, but he gave me a detailed orientation into the theoretical side and technical side of piano. He gives me a large plate of work every week, and expects me to do this work. My progress isn't immediate, but it's going smoothly and it IS progress. I would suggest Edward for both begginers berly learning and for experienced players trying to learn more. Don't be shy with him. He can be a bit qwerky, but there is a method to his madness.

I would highly recommend him because of his teaching style and is also one of the best players around. 10/10 Edward displays an extremely professional attitude about everything he does and has shown himself to be dedicated to becoming an outstanding musician and teacher. He is also a very accomplished Piano, Trumpet & improviser, a very sensitive player and a very musical individual.

I haven’t taken lessons from Edward, but we have played together since high school band. I’ve seen him play in concerts as a soloist and he is very musical on both piano and trumpet. We also played a trumpet solo with piano accompaniment that he wrote and it was a list of fun. He’s a great guy to work with and is very understanding of any problems you’re having as a musician. I’d definitely recommend Edward as a lesson teacher for both trumpet and piano.

As a brass player, I have pedagogical experience with the trumpet. I have also played the trumpet through school. I can teach beginners on how to play a brass instrument and how to read music and pitch recognition.

About Xin
I am a professional Horn player. I am currently a student at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester getting my Bachelor's of Music under Professor Peter Kurau.

Horn players can expect to have a unique sound, and I intend to let the student harness that rather than stick to whatever standard of sound is preferred in our community. From my experience, horn players tend to build tension in the jaw, and as a person with TMJ (Temporomandibular joint dysfunction), I know how to recognize these pains and how to release tension and prevent it!

I have been studying classical horn playing for 7 years and have had experiences in various orchestras such as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Ocala Symphony Orchestra. I am also a part of the National Orchestral Institute + Festival of the University of Maryland, College Park in 2018, a n
ationally-acclaimed summer festival. In addition, I studied the Natural Horn for 2 years, the predecessor to the modern French Horn. Despite having a classical background, I frequently have to play jazz when playing modern compositions and learned how to read lead sheets, so therefore I can bring a multi-faceted way of teaching every day.

I have experience teaching young kids in Baltimore through the OrchKids Summer Program. I was a Brass Intern and taught the horn players and at times the trumpet players. From this experience, I developed patience and an even stronger love for teaching to play the instrument to which I am dedicating my life. I hope that you will consider me in your pursuit of finding a horn teacher for yourself or for your child.

I am an incredibly spirited and determined musician and educator who takes great joy in sharing music with as many people as I can. I am currently working on a BME from Indiana University, and while I still have a long way to go, I know full well in my ability to demonstrate my talent as a musician and educator. Performing all over the country has been one in a long list of wonderful and highly impact performances in my time as a musician, and I have played in settings ranging from Lucas Oil Stadium to IU's very own Recital Hall. I hope to further myself and those around me by taking on students, and I have not a doubt in my mind that everyone is a musician at heart.

About Michael
My teaching experience dates as far back as my high school days, as I began giving lessons to 6th graders almost 6 years ago. Since then, I have taught and met with dozens of students, and helped them flourish as musicians, teaching both as a partner in local schools and out of my own home. The skill levels at which I teach range widely, as I have taught both beginners, learning how to hold their instrument for the first time, to advanced players almost better than me! I like to capitalize on making sure a student is setting proper goals and is achieving them at a consistent, healthy, and fun pace.

If my students are not enjoying themselves then I do whatever I can to change that! I am always ready to teach for all ages! For the newest of players who may also be children, I usually begin teaching out of The Yamaha Advantage series for
beginners. Once the student has demonstrated a strong understanding of the fundamentals of brass playing, I will begin introducing them to different solos, scales, and other repertoire in the hopes that they may want to perform in competition or recital.

For more advanced players, I try to find out what the student's specific goals are, and work with them to best achieve said goals. I have a plethora of etudes, solos, and other material to keep them interested in building up their abilities. Few things are as rewarding for me than being able to witness one of my students thrive in the performing arts! Therefore, it is important that my students have as much fun as possible and can feel accomplished achieving firm, yet reachable, personal goals. Acknowledging accomplishments helps students feel valued and like their efforts are worth something - fostering a readiness to learn more. I want to do whatever I can to help my students achieve greatness - however they may see fit. By trying to find out what inspires my students, I can successfully engineer my instruction to their wants and needs.
