Hello and welcome to my studio!

In my studio, all trumpet players feel welcomed and I will do my best to keep you/your child happy and having fun while taking lessons :)

Your first lesson begins with breathing exercises as we need air to play trumpet. Proper posture, embouchure for playing, and making a nice sound will come next. I have several method books depending on your trumpet experience, but if you already have a book we can use yours. We will also work on the more detailed aspects of trumpet playing such as articulations and range (yay high notes!), while learning new songs!

If you are already a more advanced student, we will work on music that pushes you to a higher level (Clarke, Arbans, Bordogni, etc.). I will also give you more detailed and advanced concepts to remove excess tension, play more musically instead of robotically, and overall make playing feel much easier.

I'm glad you have decided to take trumpet lessons and look forward to helping you make great music! So what are you waiting for? Let's get started!

My Studio Equipment Provided:

About Andrew G.

As a teacher, I want nothing more than my students to be happy playing music while attaining their goals.

I started trumpet as a young elementary schooler and began teaching private lessons in 2013. I had very poor technique up through high school but landed a jazz performance major in college. I hurt myself playing and started to tear muscle in my lip. I decided I loved music too much to let it go so I took the long hard path of fixing my injury. I am a much better player, but more importantly I learned many things because of it. I want to teach these things to you so you don’t make the same mistakes I did.

That being said, I'm glad you have decided to take trumpet lessons and look forward to helping you create great music! If you have any questions and want to start lessons, send me a message. Let's get started!

The two students have thoroughly enjoyed their lessons: they are challenging, but the students rise to the occasion and love to practice.

My grandson just started online with Andrew and had a great first lesson. He related well to him, which is important at the age of 14. Much more to be learned. Looking forward to many more great lessons with Andrew.

Andrew is a great trumpet teacher for my son during pandemic and he had learned many good techniques from him and he is forming a habit of practice breathing before classes start. We would be learning from Andrew long term if it is not because our school band teacher opened up one slot in for him and recommend him to take it which could be convenient when classes turn offline later.

My daughter is 11 yrs old. She self learnt trumpet and was playing with her friends. She was playing flat and was a bit loud. I realized she needed some training and found Andrew. In four weeks I noticed a good improvement. Andrew is really good.

I happen to play with Andrew in a local Jazz ensemble. He is the solo chair and I Play lead trumpet. I have been playing with Andrew for a year or 2 and he is an OUTSTANDING player! His solo’s are some of the best I have heard in my 45 years playing. He takes his playing seriously and I have every confidence his teaching skills on the trumpet are top notch also! I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to get better at playing the trumpet!

Andrew has been wonderful. My son started lessons with Andrew in our home and easily transitioned to on-line this spring. He’s punctual every time regardless of method. I appreciate his flexibility and understanding as sometime things do come up. During the closures due to Covid, it was nice to keep some level of normalcy knowing that the trumpet lesson would always continue. My son feels more confident with his music and we hear an improvement!

I just want to start out by saying Andrew is flexible with scheduling. It’s very helpful. But my son enjoys the lessons with Andrew. He said Andrew taught how to breathe better and can’t wait until the next lesson.

I have been playing trumpet for a couple years now and wanted to take trumpet lessons. I met Andrew through a mutual friend and I couldn’t be any happier! I’ll be honest I was skeptical to take lessons online but Andrew is a very good teacher! Even online he can hear things I could do better and I would definitely recommend him as a teacher!

Andrew seems to be very knowledgeable as a Trumpet teacher. He teaches my son who is 12 years old. I am very happy with the way he is giving tips to my son for playing Trumpet. First I was skeptical about online classes. After three classes, I am glad I chose the online classes with Andrew. Here is the input from my son for the review >>> He answers questions well. He gives great strategies for playing trumpet. He also gives great insights before/after following his tips. <<<

First, its a big plus that he comes to the house. He is well educated and it is obvious he knows what he is doing. Andrew was able to immediately meet my granddaughter at the level of her experience and go from there. He is personable. She is already showing improvement; we are very pleased. Can't say enough good things about Andrew.

I first met Andrew when I joined the Temple University Diamond Marching Band. Andrew was the trumpet section leader and breath tech, and he made it his goal to ensure that everyone in the section could improve as much as possible by focusing in on the aspects of each individual's playing. In addition to knowing a lot about the trumpet and trumpet playing, Andrew was exceptionally friendly to everyone he worked with. He was always willing to offer advice not just about trumpet, but life in general, and he has greatly contributed to my trumpet playing and attitude towards life. I would recommend Andrew to anyone looking to improve their trumpet playing.

Andrew is a dedicated and trained trumpet player that has a great personality geared to sharing his thoughts and training experience to others. I have played with Andrew in both a concert band and brass ensemble setting. His knowledge of the trumpet has allowed Andrew to adapt to most settings like the concert band, brass ensemble, and specifically Jazz groups.

I knew Andrew when he was a brass tech for the Temple University Marching Band where he lead a group of over 200 members while also teaching and leading a group of 30 or more trumpets. He knows his stuff and makes it easy to understand. He focuses in on the student. I learned a lot about technique and air control from him which helped me improve as a musician. Good teacher. Would recommend to anyone.

My son has been taking trumpet lessons in our home with Andrew for several months and it has been fantastic. First of all, Andrew is always on time and ready to go and he communicates all the small details very well. Second, he is a great trumpet player and teacher. Andrew helps my son work on all aspects of the trumpet and he has really improved his overall understanding of the instrument. My son has been playing the trumpet for 7 years and he is still learning new techniques from Andrew. Finally, Andrew provides written notes and/or a follow up email with instructions for my son to work on before the next lesson. I really enjoy listening to their lesson. I would definitely recommend Andrew for trumpet lessons!

Week after week, Andrew always finds ways to deepen my knowledge of the trumpet and my own playing! Andrew is an incredible player as well as an incredible teacher, and his lessons make me realize concepts about the trumpet that I could have never even imagined! My playing has improved tremendously since I began taking lessons with him, and his lessons enable the learner to develop an awareness of the instrument as well as their own physicality while playing. Furthermore, Andrew takes great care to adjust each lesson in a way that is applicable and makes sense to each student he teaches. Knowing someone with such a passion for playing the trumpet and the fact the he loves to share that passion with others motivates me to improve and love the music that I play personally. Incredible experience!

First lesson exceeded my expectations. Andrew quickly and accurately sized up my status and began instruction that was easy to understand. He worked with me on techniques that resulted in me going from no “music” to my first set of scales. Andrew’s zeal to teach was very evident. I am very pleased.

Andrew is one of the most helpful and genuine instructor I have ever experienced, in my 12 years of playing the trumpet. He not only has helped me develop better, but he helped me understand rhythms and articulations. Additionally, he provides various techniques and exercises that stretch beyond just the instrument itself. Overall, the effort that he puts into his work shows how special of a teacher this man is.

Andrew Giska is very helpful when it comes to trumpet. He has a good knowledge of the trumpet and how to play. In a group setting, or even individual, he can locate a specific part in the music where people are struggling and can help fix the problem. Andrew is very reliable as he is very willing to meet with you and make you a better trumpet player. Overall, Andrew Giska is a recommended trumpet teacher as he is very good at what he does.

Andrew was one of my section leaders for the trumpet section in the Temple University Diamond Marching Band his senior year, and he definitely was an excellent one. Not only is he a very talented trumpet player, but he was very reliable and answered all the questions I or anyone else in the section had in an efficient and timely manner. Overall, Andrew would be a great teacher as he is very helpful and is good at what he does.

Andrew and I have been friends since my first semester in college. He and I are both Jazz trumpet players, so I was able to make a great connection with him from the start. Andrew is an amazing trumpet player and has knowledge in many different subjects like use of air, range, and lip injury recovery. I have played with Andrew for four years in the Temple Diamond Marching Band and have worked with him as a co-section leader of the trumpet section for two years. I know first hand that Andrew is a great player and a great Teacher! I would recommend him as a teacher to students in a heartbeat and I know that you will not be disappointed with him for trumpet lessons.

Andrew has shared his knowledge of not only trumpet playing, but also other techniques that I can use to improve my overall musicianship. He shares this knowledge openly and provides reassurance. He has taught me breathing techniques that allow me to use more air. He also taught me how to be more direct with my air. He is an amazing teacher and his low stress demeanor made it easy for me to learn from mistakes without getting overwhelmed.

Andrew Giska is an immensely knowledgeable instructor with the education and drive to support him. With being extremely experienced, Andrew is someone who can aid a wide range of subjects, from just starting out to experienced trumpeters. Additionally, Andrew is personable and kind, and will never say anything negative to his students. He is nothing but encouraging, and his talent with the trumpet shows that his students are in the right hands. I would recommend Andrew to anyone trying to improve their playing techniques because he is educated, talented, and humble.
