Trumpet:
A trumpet is a musical instrument commonly used in classical and jazz ensembles. The trumpet group contains the instruments with the highest register in the brass family. They are played by blowing air through almost-closed lips (called the player's embouchure), producing a "buzzing" sound that starts a standing wave vibration in the air column inside the instrument. I begin teaching from the beginning with the very basics of breathing, embouchure, fingerings, reading, notes, rhythms, songs, scales, theory and improvisation.

About Karen

Hi! My name is Karen D. I’ve had the pleasure of performing, singing, writing, and recording since I was seven years old. Besides being an Honor Graduate of Berklee School of Music, I have been a lifelong student of the international world-renowned instructors Dante Pavone and Charlie Banacos.

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

My approach in teaching is firmly grounded in developing a healthy and self-driven practice culture in my students. As a practicing teacher, I strive tirelessly to lead by example. I ensure my students feel empowered after each lesson and hold them accountable to commit to their own daily grinds. For working with a new student, my typical process is to begin with the end in mind. According to the particular needs and expectations of the student, we discuss attainable and measurable goals for a given period of time. Especially during times of difficulty, I encourage my students to follow their curiosity and guard their motivation as we share the journey of music making together.

About Tommy

As a strong believer in the life-changing power of music, my teaching is driven by my purpose to serve and empower students of all backgrounds to realize their full potential and to leave a positive impact on the lives of others. During my time with Tommy, he has helped me improve in many areas. I feel that I learn and improve every lesson. Tommy is committed to teaching and points things out where I can improve upon. While teaching, Tommy uses many analogies that help me better understand what I'm doing wrong and how I can fix it.

I plan my lessons and create my own materials to fit each student's specific needs and goals. While learning an instrument is a worthy endeavor on its own, I also work with my students to hone important life and study skills that they can also apply to other aspects of their lives and education - not to mention having fun making music! Confidence, problem solving, and setting and working towards goals are just some of the skills I work to impart on my students.

I primarily play the French horn, but I can teach basic fundamentals of trumpet playing to any beginning student, any age! Please reach out and I'll answer any questions you may have. Lessons will be catered to each student and you or your child will build a strong foundation that can be applied to all things in life!

For intermediate students, I may elect to use my horn to demonstrate rather than my trumpet, but the principles are the same! An intermediate student would be most helped by me if they were to bring their own music in to work on.

We will use a 2-1 approach to constructive criticism, where for every possible improvement, we will say two positives. At times, we will use singing as a tool to figure out everything from melodies and rhythm. I also believe heavily in making music fun and enjoyable and loving our own sound. The types of repertoire we will explore include and are not limited to: solo music, etudes, calisthenics, and duets.

My only expectations - come in with ...

Welcome!

I am experienced in trumpet, french horn, trombone, bass trombone, and piano, trumpet being my main instrument, been playing for approximately over 25 years. I have an Associate degree in Music education. I have also composition, arrangement, and written my own trumpet book.
I have self-taught myself to sing alto, guitar, handbells, organ, and percussion for approximately 15 years. I start learning music off and on from the age of 10. I started on piano and off I went from piano to trumpet. An along the way I pick up the guitar, voice, percussion, handbells, trombone, and french horn. I love learning and teaching music to others.

"Jennifer is an excellent instructor. She came to our home and worked with my middle school son on trumpet. My son was struggling with his technique and was frustrated with the school band program. Jennifer's teaching style is one of positive encouragement and incredible patience. She took the extra time to find music of interest to my son to enhance and make the lessons fun, especially due to his frustration with some of the more boring pieces of music assigned through the school. I highly recommend Jennifer!"

"Bobby is a great teacher! During my time taking lessons, he always found a way to explain concepts in a manner that I could relate to. Coming from flute, I knew basic fundamentals of reading music and structure and Bobby took the time to make suggestions that were along the lines of my musical experiences and strengths. If you're looking to learn the trumpet, I'd definitely recommend Bobby because he's able to break down concepts and is very patient. If you've been playing trumpet for awhile and wish to get even better, I'd suggest taking lessons with him because Bobby definitely has the resume, experience and knowledge to help any trumpet player go further."

His solo’s are some of the best I have heard in my 45 years playing. He takes his playing seriously and I have every confidence his teaching skills on the trumpet are top notch also! I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to get better at playing the trumpet!"

"Justin showed my 10 year old son how to play the trumpet and did a great job. He was patient, made my son feel comfortable and was able to help him get a better sound by the end of the very first lesson. Jalen does not give high praise easily so we were impressed that he enjoyed learning from him. My mother listened in on some of the lessons and she also said Justin did a great job - friendly personality and great tips on how to play. We highly recommend him."
