Hello! 

I'm currently Principal Trumpet of the Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet Orchestras and I'm originally from Brisbane, Australia. 

I completed my Master's Degree at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music where I studied with world renowned trumpet teachers, Barbara Butler and Charles Geyer. 

With years of professional performing and teaching experience, I hope to help you achieve your short and long term goals in music making. 

I can help you prepare for school and band auditions, establish great fundamental trumpet playing concepts and help learn solo and orchestral trumpet repertoire or jazz standards.

I am a very passionate musician and love to help people overcome musical obstacles with patient, intelligent and efficient learning. I value quality over quantity!

Testu was an excellent teacher. He was patient, kind, encouraging and very knowledgeable. He helped me to prepare for auditions, develop a practice routine and find more enjoyment in playing!

Tetsuya is not only a talented musician, as many people already know, but he is also an incredibly kind and patient teacher. He taught my son not only about technique and musicianship but also the love and fun that can be had through music. He knew the level that my son was at and guided him through his learning and this allowed my son to continuously improve. My son was incredibly luckily to have Tetsuya as his first teacher.

I have known Tetsuya for many years now having gone to high school with him. It was incredibly inspiring to watch him not only perform, but also teach my brother trumpet as well. He was an incredibly patient and kind teacher and helped my brother improve not only on his technical skills and passion for music, but also his confidence in his abilities to play the instrument. He is a kind-hearted, compassionate and patient person and this translates into his music and his teaching.

Tetsuya was my teacher during 2014-2015 after I had not played the trumpet for a year. I was able to relearn basics and improve my breathing techniques significantly with his help. He is a patient teacher and uses a variety of different skills to maximise the lesson!

Tetsuya caters to every student’s need and helps them to achieve any goals they may have. He has a diversified toolkit of exercises that are both appropriate and effective for warm-ups or for learning pieces or technical work. He is a great teacher and I highly recommend him as one.
