For almost 25 years, I've had the privilege to have worked with thousands of performers who study with me from all over the world. I teach in-studio at my two locations in Houston and in The Woodlands, Texas. I also work with students who come to me from all over the globe via online over-the-web Skype lessons.

Originally from Detroit, I enjoyed being a "Jack of all styles" singer/musician for over 15 years. I was a professional musician performing Classical, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Gospel, Musical Theater, Commercial and Studio work, along with being very involved in Contemporary Christian music. While I very much loved to perform, I found myself drawn much more to the joy of teaching. I have been singing in Choirs and Bands for a number of years and learned more about my voice and singing properly in a 45 minute session with Eric than I have in all my years of performing. I now understand why I have been struggling to sing in my upper register and Eric has put together a personalized program to help me develop my voice and gain back my vocal range. Eric has a great sense of humor and made the session very enjoyable as well as informative. I look forward to my next session and would highly recommend Eric as an instructor.

Eric has coached me for more than two years. Each lesson was personalized and has helped me to improve gradually. I have been teaching this subject for over 13 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Music is not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected primarily from the Broadway and West End rep based on the student's learning needs and with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique (enunciation, breathing, pitch/intonation, etc.) and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

So far, I look forward to each lesson! Troy is very kind, yet very helpful and has helped me target on my personal goals with opera while also learning more each time! I highly recommend him. It doesn't matter if you have no experience in voice or only experience in voice ( as my experience is theatre and musical theatre), he is patient in helping you achieve the goals set. I cannot wait to continue lessons with him!

About Glenn
I have been active in the entertainment industry since the age of 12, when I gave my first professional performance. Prior to that I was already being introduced to music with years of guitar, and then vocal instruction. I do not remember a time of my life when I was not singing somewhere; in the house, in the yard, in the classroom. That is perhaps why I identify so well with the young people who gather so much enjoyment from "just singing" at every opportunity. I studied professionally for over 10 years with renown soprano and voice teacher Sylvia Jensen, who was instrumental in the enhancement of my vocal knowledge and technique. She is now the Director of Education for the Miss Ohio pageants of the Miss America competitions, elevating many young ladies to the national spotlight. At age 14, I auditioned for, and was added to cast of a
network television variety program, "The Gene Carroll Show", that was a television institution for over 30 years in the Midwest. I was a featured performer on that program for over 7 years, all the while perfecting the art of "playing to a camera." This experience was invaluable, and the knowledge I gathered is now included in my curriculum. I also began performing a solo act in the nightclub circuit at the age of 15, performing up and down the "north coast" from Cleveland, OH, (my home), to Erie. PA. At a very young age, I learned the difficult art of choosing musical material and pacing a show; also adapting to performing under a myriad of conditions with a vast array of musical accompaniment. After graduating college with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing, I assembled my own band, and took to the road. That experience eventually brought the act to Las Vegas in 1982. Over the years my show has been a staple in major casino cabarets in Las Vegas, and all over Nevada. Since my first engagement at The Landmark Hotel in the early 1980's, I have literally been up and down the famed Las Vegas Strip many times over. The Desert Inn, The Dunes, The Stardust, The Maxim, The Tropicana, New York New York, Mandalay Bay, MGM, Bally's, The Flamingo, The Imperial Palace, The Four Queens, The Golden Nugget, The Fremont, The Venetian, The Palazzo, and a three year engagement at The Riviera. My show is truly comprised of musical variety; classics, show tunes, jazz, rock, blues, r&b, country. Even a presentation of "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera, that I perform in full costume. It is this ability to successfully deliver an extensive repertoire that I am enthusiastic about passing along to the next generation of entertainers.

I have been truly blessed in my career to have experienced so many highlights; too many to document. From winning an understudy roll in the Broadway Musical "Platinum" starring Hollywood actress Alexis Smith, to performing our National Anthem at events ranging from Major League Baseball to ESPN Boxing to receptions for major dignitaries, to recording 7 albums and a full-length video, to being asked to perform for Mr. Frank Sinatra at the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Golf Tournament, I have lived a full life on stage, learning and absorbing every bit of knowledge gathered along the way.
Now it is my desire to escalate my status as an educator to a more "one on one" experience; availing myself the opportunity to pass along that wealth of knowledge to individual students who aspire to enjoy the entertainment profession as I have, providing them with the skills needed to successfully compete. Or, should it be their choice not to pursue entertainment as a vocation, to gain a working understanding of all facets of their instrument so as to gain a better appreciation of music. Whatever the goal of the student, I feel that I am equipped to provide them with the tools needed to achieve that goal.

*** Lesson Details ***
Content of Sessions

Generally, the first 10-15 minutes of each lesson will be focused on vocal warm up and exercise. (For guitar students, we will review the previous
week's assignment). For Vocal Students, it is understood that the voice mechanism is made up of muscles, and as an athlete prepares for a sporting event, a singer must prepare to vocalize. It is at this time in our lesson when the student will develop good habits of voice maintenance, which will serve them well throughout their careers. The proper care and preservation of the vocal unit cannot be stressed enough, especially for pubescent and pre-pubescent students. Vocal chords in a developmental stage are most susceptible to damage, and because they are particularly sensitive, they must be handled with care. Our warm up regimen is designed to strengthen as well as preserve the singing voice.

I am not an advocate of getting too involved and "bogged down" in the technical aspects of singing, especially with the young students, and
especially early in our program. This is not to say that breath control, tonality, pitch, etc. are not vital to good singing, because these workings are ESSENTIAL, and their application will certainly be incorporated into our studies. Some instructors, on occasion, have a tendency to lose sight of the fact that much to do with singing happens "naturally", and too much focus on the "technical" can actually be inhibiting. This can alter a beautiful, natural tone into one that is unnatural and contrived.

I adhere to the philosophy that above all else, SINGERS WANT TO SING SONGS, and musicians-in-training want to play music. That is our focus, and all of our training is conceived with that objective in mind. All the technical knowledge and coaching serves no purpose without practical application. It is my belief that the most significant progress occurs when a vocalist is singing a song.

Nearly every element of instruction can be utilized in the performance of one song. This is why the majority of our session time will be spent "in song". For the very young student, we will concentrate our efforts with the students choices of favorite and familiar songs. The older students will undoubtedly have favorite songs, styles and artists. Special attention will be paid to the genre most enjoyed by the student, but diversity will be emphasized as well, and a variety of genres will be unpacked and explored. I believe that whatever a student's musical goals and aspirations, it is in their best interest to gain knowledge and insight in all facets of music, singing, and performance.

The most vital pre-requisite for any student is their enthusiasm. My ambition will be to harness that enthusiasm and channel it productively through stimulating instruction. Our sessions will be informative and educational, but always predicated upon "having fun with music".

I am proud to feature a curriculum that emphasizes the entertainment aspect of singing as well as the technical; created to benefit all ages and experience levels, from beginner to seasoned professional. After just weeks of my "Triple Threat Training" a student will begin to see astounding results: vocally, musically, and in the art of performance. I am excited to share my knowledge with you. Let's get started!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio is equipped with a full vocal sound system with microphones that I utilize to teach the valuable art of mic technique. Young students enjoy using the mics and hearing themselves sing and perform. Since our lessons are predicated on enjoying the art of singing, this opportunity has proven invaluable. For the advanced performer, studying all aspects of amplification and what a singer should know about their stage sound is a part of our educational curriculum. My studio is furnished with the equipment that is essential to mastering that knowledge.
Since the practical aspect of my course is based on singing songs, I provide all the latest technology required to allow my students the opportunity to sing the songs of their choosing, with and without the lead vocal tracks. I feel that when students are singing their favorite songs, it offers me the greatest teaching opportunities. I make certain the every musical genre can be represented, and feel I have the knowledge and ability to guide the student is whatever their musical tastes. My studio is also equipped with piano (for vocal exercises), and guitars, which gives me opportunity to accompany my students when the musical moment is appropriate. Glenn is a fantastic instructor. I was a beginner to acting, but I've really wanted to learn more about the craft for a long time. Glenn broke down the fundamentals of reading, character development, and script analysis to help make a more believable performance. I was inspired to start lessons from watching the last season of American Idol. I started with a 12 pack of online lessons. I was so nervous to sing out load (even in the privacy of my home) but Melody was always positive and encouraging. Even though I didn't practice as much as I should, to my surprise I've gotten better at hitting notes. It's helped even at work (female engineer) for me to easily speak louder and lower when needed. I've been taking lessongs for over a year now and it's still challenging but I always feel awesome afterwards (just like a great workout!) When I listen to singers now I have a whole level of of appreciation. It's like Melody introduced a new language. She's an awesome singer herself and I aspire to sing like her!

I've been teaching voice for 14 years and seen much success. I've had students pass their audition into Berklee School of Music as well as Universities with a more classical focus. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to relax and breath better while singing and as time goes on you'll be able to hear your voice get stronger and your range grow. While my passion is barbershop a capella singing, I love all genres of music, from classical to pop to broadway. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Keturah
I have a deep love for singing and performing. I began singing with my family at the age of 3 and was performing in public beginning at age 4. In 1988, I was introduced to barbershop a capella style harmonies and began singing with my sisters in a quartet. In 2003, I graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelors of Music, choral education emphasis, and French minor.

After graduation, I had the unique opportunity to become a member of the world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I sang on numerous recordings, in addition to performing on the weekly radio and television broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word.

In 2013, I became a member of Sweet Adelines International and currently sing with The Woodlands Show Chorus. I recently wrote an article published in the April 2016 Sweet Adelines International magazine, The PitchPipe,
entitled What Makes Warm-Ups So Important. I continue to sing barbershop and compete along with my sisters. We are currently ranked 7th place in the Region.

I love all styles of music, from barbershop to pop to classical. My students also have varying interests in music. In my lessons, you select the music you want to improve on.

During our first lesson, I will have you sing through some music exercises to determine your current range and abilities. My motto is: "It doesn't matter where you start as long as you are improving!" Then you will be asked to sing a piece of a song. We will also discuss your goals and motivations. I am here for you! I want you to see growth immediately, so we will mold each lesson to the skills and techniques you need.

Students will receive a free transcription of vocal warm-ups and exercises for developing sight-reading, if this is a desired goal.

Holly is simply magnificent! She's incredibly talented and a wonderful teacher. My daughter took lessons from Holly for six years and had much success. She placed in All State, Governor's Honors and Honor Choirs. The best part was when she received a scholarship for vocal performance, all four years of college (undergrad)! Now, she's studying for her master’s degree in vocal pedagogy and performance. Holly's influence went beyond vocal performance skills, she's a mentor and role model to her students. We have so much respect, admiration and love for Holly. I enthusiastically recommend her!

I'm a graduate of the Houston Grand Opera Studio and have been singing professionally around the world for 10 years now.

About Federico
Argentinian bass-baritone Federico, who “sings with a deep-voiced authority” (Opera News) is a graduate of the prestigious Houston Grand Opera Studio, was previously a member of the Opera Studio of Teatro Argentino de La Plata, and a student at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid.

This season, amongst other engagements, he will perform the role of Achilla in Julius Caesar with Houston Grand Opera. He will also perform the title role in Le Nozze di Figaro with Palm Beach Opera and make his debut with the Philladelphia Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

In the 2016/17 season, Federico performed Dr. Dulcamara in Houston Grand Opera’s production of L’Elisir d’Amore, conducted by Bradley Moore. Other performances included Brander in The Damnation of Faust with Aspen Music Festival conducted by Mae
stro Robert Spano, Timur in Turandot with the Des Moines Metro Opera and Mr. Flint in Billy Budd with the same company, both conducted by Maestro David Neely.

In previous seasons, Federico performed the role of Thomas Betterton in the world premiere of Carlisle Floyd’s Prince of Players conducted by Patrick Summers, Angelotti in Tosca, Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin, the King in The Little Prince, the cover of the title role and Antonio in The Marriage of Figaro, and selected scenes as Tiridate in Radamisto and Figaro, all at Houston Grand Opera. At the Auditorio Sony Madrid, the artist performed the roles of Leporello in Don Giovanni, the title role in Don Pasquale and Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola. While at the Opera Studio of Teatro Argentino de La Plata, Federico performed Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, Antonio in Il viaggio a Reims, El Hombre Mayor in Gandini’s contemporary opera La ciudad ausente, Johann in Werther, Narrator in Rota’s I due timidi, Plutone in Il ballo dell’ingrate, and Tempo in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria.

On the concert and recital stage, Federico has performed in a concert tour of Spain, organized by the Fundación Albéniz, a Christmas concert for the Royal Family of Spain at the Palacio Real de Madrid, as well as concerts with the Nürnberger Symphoniker in Nürnberg and Zindorf. Born in Buenos Aires, Federico received 3rd prize in the Eleanor McCollum Competition at the Houston Grand Opera, and was named “Outstanding Student” by Her Majesty Queen Sofía of Spain.

I've been a professional performer for over 15 years as a actor, singer, and dancer. I help students to find their own voice and not an imitation of someone else. Since singing is so personal, developing trust is crucial to success. I want my students to feel safe. Producing a healthy sound is important to be so singers can have long, prosperous careers. When it comes to singing, I like to break down the anatomy and make sure students understand the mechanics of what is actually happening within the body. I do a lot of exercises designed to work on specific techniques and I use them as reference points to refer back to when we are working on material. This way the students can develop muscle memory to replace old habits. Let's make some music together!

I am a professional director and performer in the Houston theater scene. I graduated from University of Houston with a Bachelors in Acting and Directing. I trained my voice at Houston Music Institute, University of Houston, and at Rice University where I primarily focused on classical, Broadway, and jazz techniques.

Many acting students come to me with big broad characters and extravagant gestures. While there are some shows that might be stylized this way, this isn't grounded in truth. Many directors will see it as false. I teach students to listen and respond honestly without forcing emotion. I believe that audiences can feel when emotion is genuine and when it's not. By learning to respond honestly, allowing themselves to feel, and thinking critically about the motives of characters, students become better listeners, better communica
tors, and more empathetic in their daily lives. They also become more believable and dynamic performers onstage or on screen.

Every voice is unique, and I want students to discover the beauty of their truly personal instrument. Because of the personal nature of the voice, I strive to create a safe space to explore. My main priority is freeing the voice from unnecessary tension and supporting it with the breath so students' true sound can be discovered. I know many different exercises for each specific element of vocal technique. I transfer between exercises to actual music pieces until proper technique becomes muscle memory and replaces old habits.

I'm a firm believer in the joy of art. If we are not having fun, we should probably be doing something else. Right?

Each individual singing voice is incredibly unique.

I have a 12-year proven record developing authentic voices of singers of all ages, stages and abilities using functional voice and somatic techniques.

As singers, we not only use our voice to communicate, but our whole self: mind, body and heart. Most teachers will give singers a few warm-ups or exercises to try and fix vocal health issues when most underlying voice pathologies have more to do with the "whole"istic connection with other forms of self.
