With over 10 years of teaching experience, and sharing the stage with the likes of Bob Mintzer and Gilbert Castellanos, trumpet playing is my biggest passion. Our lessons will be focused, yet relaxed; challenging but always fun and full of exciting challenges. My playing and teaching experiences have helped me understand what it takes to reach that "next level" of trumpet playing, whether it involves range, technique, or musical performance. I hope we can make some great music together soon!

About Carlos
Hello! My name is Carlos and I can't wait to have you as a student! I've been teaching trumpet for over 13 years and have loved helping my students discover the joy of playing an instrument, and making beautiful music! I studied music at San Diego State University and the New England Conservatory of Music where I earned a degree in Music Performance and was an Academic Fellow. I'm an encouraging, patient, and lively teacher. We will be learning the basics of trumpet playing, and progressing each week with tailored lesson plans, all the while making beautiful music in the process. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

*** Lesson Details ***
All of my lessons are customized to your needs, preferences and goals. No matter what instrument or skill level, I'll take you through the basics and help you build solid practicing fundamentals. He is a very patient teacher. And he's very flexible on his schedule by moving our schedule to an earlier time because we had a prior engagement in the afternoon. And most of all, my daughter now knows the basics and we will most likely contact him again in case we decide to continue guitar lessons.

This is my primary instrument, on which I have over 19 years of playing experience. I am ready to help you get better whether you just bought a trumpet or are studying music in college.

About James
Hello everyone! Please have a look around my profile and feel free to contact me. I have taught privately since 2009 and joined takelessons.com in 2014.

I strongly feel each student needs lesson goals tailored to what he or she wants to take away from music. Getting ready for a college performance degree, making it to state solo contest, surviving band music, or simply discovering the huge scope of music available to us these days are each worthy goals, but require different preparation. I will work with you to figure out where your interests lie and focus on those, first and foremost!

My education includes bachelor's and master's degrees in trumpet performance from Lawrence University and UW-Milwaukee, respectively. In addition to my private studio, I maintain an active teaching schedule with the Fairfield Jr/Sr High School marchin
g band and Oregon Crusaders drum and bugle corps, as well as freelancing throughout Michiana.

Thanks for your time, and happy practicing!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I can provide: music stand, method books during lessons, recording equipment for lessons, tuner, metronome

Students should provide: instrument/mouthpiece, any other music they would like to play

*** Specialties ***
I have spent most of my playing time on classical (orchestral, chamber, and solo music), but also welcome students interested in jazz up to an intermediate level, especially if they have an interest in playing lead trumpet.

About Tammye
I am a 2008 graduate of the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree. While at North Texas I taught trumpet lessons in the Denton area. I have also taught piano, clarinet, and saxophone as well as all the other brass instruments. Tammye has been my daughters piano teacher going on five years now. She is laid back and my daughter has always enjoyed playing the piano. She has never dreaded lesson or asked to not play. I've heard of some kids crying after lessons and this has never ever been the case with Tamye. My daughter started out loving lessons with Tamye and still does... she is in middle school now. She has never felt pressured. She has always come away from the lessons having learned something new and now plays beautifully. This year my five year old boy has started lessons with Ms. Tammye and he also is enjoying them. Tamye has been the perfect teacher for our family. We took a summer break to try out a local music school (same price and we had to drive there) and it didn't compare to the quality we get with Ms. Tammye. As long as our kids are playing piano they'll be having Ms. Tammye as their teacher.

This "teacher" doesn't know anything about music, let alone playing the trumpet, or any instrument. Complete HACK with zero skills who shouldn't even be charging $15 an hour!!! Also, she was extremely rude in all correspondence with me. I'm beyond thankful that I didn't have to smell her likely putrid, unwashed, unkempt stench through the webcam or in person. Stay FAR away.

* Finally, a comprehensive instrumental course for students of all ages and experience levels that includes:

- Information on brands, supplies, and guidance with professional organizations

- Weekly lessons to develop and improve skills with proper intonation, articulation, dynamics, rhythmic meters…and more!

- Music theory (includes music history topics) with emphasis on technology and composition

- Maintenance and repair tips

- Advanced techniques: altissimo range, ornamentation, improvising, circular breathing, etc.

- Chamber music (accompaniment) to prepare for public performances

About Neil
I am a music educator of 13 years: I have taught both middle school band and choir to at-risk youth, as well as elementary music at a private Christian academy. My principal instrument is the saxophone (which I began playing in 1990), and I play many other instruments. As for my formal education: I received the Bachelor of Music Education degree in 2005 from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; and the Master of Music Education degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA, 2010).

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal is to create life-long musicians...
I focus on the needs and interests of my students, thereby representing all musical genres and including all cultures.
My lessons are structured into activities that incorporate various aspects of music appreciation:
Music theory, music history, music technology, perfor
mance practice, etc. (making such lessons comprehensive)

*** Studio Equipment ***
As a musician of 27 years, I believe it is the "musician that makes the instrument", and not the other way around. That is, I do not believe it is necessary to purchase the 'top' brand for your instrument in order to achieve the desired sound. Frequent practice builds skills and results in the desired tones people wish to hear.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I always bring my instrument, metronome, tuner, music stand and stand for my instrument, including lesson materials and supplies.

*** Specialties ***
All genres, all styles & all cultures! I teach students of all ages--mostly at my home studio, but I also travel to students' homes, churches, and, as an alternative during the Summer only, I am willing to meet with students in the Practice Rooms in the Fine Arts Building at UTSA.

With over 10 years of experience playing trumpet (my main instrument in college and most common instrument to gig with), I'm ready to jam with a student of any level. We can work of the technical, classical side of trumpet playing, as well as develop jazz improv techniques - and also learn some pop tunes (which is where you can make some money in the real world!).

About Michael
Hello! I'm Michael. Music has been 'my thing' since I found a guitar in my Mom's closet at age 9 and didn't move until figured out "Mary Had A Little Lamb". That's the curiosity I try to instill in my students! Although I started playing trumpet and guitar in elementary school, my music education at University of Texas in SA opened up musical doors I never knew existed! Currently I teach trumpet, guitar, piano, drums and saxophone, ages 6 to 45, as well as play trumpet around town when the sun goes down. I passionately emphasize music reading ability, improv techniques through jazz studies, and a solid music theory foundation- no matter what age you are!!!

LESSONS DETAILS
Every lesson, concepts are reviewed and emphasized, then we crawl forward through new music, discussing the technique and theory of every piece we play. I've accumul
ated an expansive library of teaching material to create a very diverse path when exploring the wonderful world of music. I always try to include a classical piece and a jazz piece in the repertoire. Popular music and original compositions are fun encouraged too!
Whatever your idea of music is, we will build on it, playing pieces you want to play!

THE INSTRUMENTS
A variety of instruments are at our disposal here in the studio, including...

Piano & electric keyboard, acoustic and electric guitars, trumpet & cornet, clarinet, flute, upright acoustic bass, 7-piece drum set & auxiliary percussion.

THE HOUSE
The house is very friendly and comfortable, great with children and families. Lots of natural light! There's a large front porch patio to relax on while you wait with a good book, or you can hang out inside with the siblings watching something on Netflix. I'll even give you the Wifi password ;)

Students can expect to develop a strong foundation in trumpet method. Students will learn how to read music, proper way to make a sound, proper breathing techniques, and simple melodies suitable for beginners. As the student becomes more comfortable, they will be challenged to play more challenging music that pushes the limits of their dexterity.

About Kenneth
It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13.

Along the way I have had the honor of meeting and learning from respected musicians such as Lawrence Jackson (former director of SU Bands), Herman Jackson (Brother of Randy Jackson), Jerry Lee Lane (Marching percussion pioneer) and countless others.

As a drummer that has played in all kinds of styles and venues, I can teach any skill level from the first time picking up sticks to making good drummers great and great drummers legendary.

Using my experience as a school band director (4 years), I
will come up with a customized lesson plan for each of my students that will stay on the best possible path to success. It is also because of this experience that I am also able to teach all concert/jazz band instrument method (ex. trumpet, flute, electric bass, etc.)

I have been involved in music since I was about 8 years old. I began by taking drum lessons and my teacher inspired me to always go above and beyond when it comes to your instrument. It is my hope that I can bring that same enthusiasm and inspire future students the same way.

Here's What to Know Before Buying an Instrument

Here's What to Know Before Buying an Instrument

Thinking about buying a new instrument?
