Hello! I am a certified and experienced piano teacher. I have a master degree of music and also have a certificate of Yamaha Music Association. I've been working with all ages of students at schools and studios. Currently, I offer private lessons at my home studio and online.

About Jihye
Hello, future students!

My name is Jihye and I teach Piano and Korean language. I grew up in Seoul, Korea and currently living in LA, California. I graduated from Kyung Hee University and earned a Master's degree at the California Institute of the Arts.

I have been teaching piano for 20 years and Korean at Korean language schools. In the past, I have met many K pop and K drama lovers so I decided to share my culture and language with them.

So far I have met many passionate and enthusiastic students whom I feel very lucky to work with. I offer personalized curriculum to each of my Korean and piano students. Also, help students who prepare piano level exams such as CM, ABRSM, and SATII for the Korean language. I sometimes use clips of songs and dramas to help students who learn Korean.

Are you ready to learn?? Let's begin taki

My reading comprehension on par with where we are on lessons, but my struggle is listening comprehension. I am listening and repeating playback of workbook audio files over and over trying to get it. They speak so fast for beginner like me. Jihye not only helped me with this on her own time, but on our next lesson she made a change. We did the textbook lesson as planned but she reserved a small portion of our time to dictating workbook narrative at a pace I could keep up with. Noted difference on the first go. I am grateful and know I will only get better!! Thank you.

Jihye is so personable and very accommodating. She has helped me tremendously with my upcoming trip to South Korea. Her insights and guidance have been truly wonderful. If you want a teacher who is patient and able to work at your pace, look no further. If you are interested in learning Korean, she is a very good teacher.

I have been teaching this subject for over 16 years. The main curriculum for beginners is Alfred's Basic Piano Library. There are three beginner levels (beginner, late, adult) and one will be selected after the first meeting. For non-beginning students, the course of study will be developed based on past experience, current abilities, and goals. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is a part of subsequent lessons. Music is not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• the studio space is also inhabited by two lovely cats. Do consider this when signing up for lessons.

Troy is a really patient instructor. I started these lessons as an adult with no prior musical training. I am enjoying the lessons and despite the fact that I never quite have enough time to practice as I should, sometimes even only having the lesson time with him, I still feel I made some progress. I also enjoy the discussions we have on music theory. I am trained as a scientist and when I read theory I have parse it through my own way of thinking about things. I find that Troy is a really good teacher and able to communicate in a manner that is easy to understand. I highly recommend him!

About Leni
BA in Music, composition and conducting from Hunter College (City University of New York)
Diploma from the Conservatoire de Fontainebleau, France
Studied with Louise Talma, Jacques Louis Monod, Nadia Boulanger

Lessons are about learning to make music, not endless scales and arpeggios which so often lead to pain and injury. Tone production, sight reading, and age appropriate theory and interpretation are strong elements from the beginning.

An overwhelming percentage of young, enthusiastic and talented children are discouraged early and give up the piano because they do not make rapid progress and therefore do not enjoy their lessons. Music is one of life's great joys. It should be fun. For the intermediate, and even the advanced, student, it is critical that much more attention be paid to the musicality of the playing and the u
nderstanding of the music. This leads to more beautiful playing and greater enjoyment.

Leni is an incredible instructor. He is extremely knowledgeable and yet never comes across as condescending or arragant.
He is helpful and encouraging and makes learning to play fun.
The music that he selects is challenging without being overwhelming and he is fine with moving on to something else if you just plain don't like a piece.
He is a very popular instructor and I feel fortunate that I have found a space in his schedule !

I can honestly say that Leni is one of the most professional and intelligent music instructors I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I have a background in music (low brass) from the 6th grade all the way through college. While I no longer play any brass instruments, I am currently taking drum lessons, and felt that now would also be the best time to try my hand (no pun intended) at piano. I am very happy with the lessons that Leni gave, however, I eventually came to the realization that the piano would be too much of a time constraint for me. I was not 100% committed to the piano due to working an 8-5 job every day, as well as taking the drum lessons I was already taking prior to starting piano. Also, it didn't help that I did not have a piano to practice with. With that being said, if I ever find myself with the time/capability to commit myself to the piano the way I wanted to, then I will be contacting Leni for more lessons. There are many piano teachers out there, but if you want to learn the CORRECT way so that you will not hurt your hands/fingers, then Leni is the absolute best choice. Thanks for everything Leni!

A comprehensive education in piano and general music, accommodating the specific needs of each individual student.

About Timothy
Although you probably won't recognize the name of the small Bible College from which I received my degrees, I can assure you I received a well rounded education in both music and education. I began learning piano at about 8 years old, and for the past 10 years I have taken lessons from a master teacher, who understands not only the ins and outs of the technical side of playing the piano, but also what it takes to develop the musicality of a student. My voice teachers and choir directors have also had an excellent balance of technical skill and musical sense. I have taken a number of classes both in general education, and specifically on piano and choral pedagogy, as well as all the standard music classes such as music history and music theory. I am therefore prepared to adapt to the individual needs of most beginner and intermediate stude
nts desiring to pursue a further knowledge in music.

I have now been teaching lessons for well over a year, and I have been able to help a variety of students from a three year old girl to a gentleman in his sixties. I have also been teaching an autistic child for nearly a year, and we have made tremendous progress together.

Everyone has unique needs and desires regarding an education in music. That is why I teach each student individually to help them achieve their goals. Just because I don't have a set methodology, however, doesn't mean that I teach chaotically. I balance the need for order and discipline with freedom of musical expression.

Tim is an excellent teacher! I've always been nervous and shaky when it comes to singing, and could never get the timing down on songs, but he gave me advice on performance and several breathing and pitch exercises that helped tremendously. I have really improved my range, and my choir director can see the difference in my confidence and sight reading ability. It's a great feeling, and the lessons have helped me truly enjoy singing!

Good day!
After having taught piano for a few years now, my students have been successful learning the fundamentals of piano playing. The most popular beginner piano books do not actually start as easy as they possibly can. I have a list of songs that the student will start off with that are easier than the typical first songs on a book. After these songs have been learned, the student will play from the Alfred piano books. Eventually, the student will be able to play more advanced songs and pieces like Fur Elise. The parents provide the student with music books and a metronome. I will also encourage parents to get music that the child likes, as long as its easy enough.
If I seem like a good fit, don't hesitate to press the green button!

About Edward
You may think it’s strange to talk about a story that is unrelated to music, but read on to find out why this story is important to Alex’s life as a music teacher. Alex has always been a curious guy. Having worn glasses for his entire life, Alex was interested to see what contacts were like. Usually, he would have just accepted what he was told. However, this time, he was determined to wear contacts. So, Alex attended a different eye doctor rather than his original doctor. Even then, he was told that he would not be able to wear contacts. But he was still determined to try them out. Surprisingly, the contacts worked! Little did Alex know that this would be the start of a different chapter in his life.

It was perhaps not surprising, then, that a new emphasis on education had begun to develop. Shortly afterwards, Alex accepted a new job
as a piano teacher at the Piano Studio. Using the lessons he had learned from his visit to the doctor, he started to form his philosophy on teaching. No matter what the challenges of the student, Alex will always strive to work through those challenges and do his best to successfully teach that student.

There have been a few piano beginners that have come by the Piano Studio that were assigned to Alex’s teaching roster. When they started, they were clearly some of the hardest beginners he has had to work with. One parent even remarked that her child would be impossible to teach. That parent was fortunately wrong! For months, now, this student follows Alex's instructions very clearly and has been paying attention every lesson. This is an example of how Alex's tenacity has paid off.

With a full studio of nearly twenty students per week while attending San Jacinto College, Alex stuck by with this principle of never giving up. Even when it seemed discouraging, he never gave up on any of his students as long as his students never give up on themselves. This, he believes, is what separates teachers who are passionate at their work, and teachers who just try to get by.

Currently, Alex teaches at a piano studio in Webster, TX, while attending the University of St. Thomas. Additionally, he performs weekly at a local Church as the staff organist and pianist.

Edward's a very patient teacher and accomplished pianist. I've played the piano a bit on my own, but he gave me a detailed orientation into the theoretical side and technical side of piano. He gives me a large plate of work every week, and expects me to do this work. My progress isn't immediate, but it's going smoothly and it IS progress. I would suggest Edward for both begginers berly learning and for experienced players trying to learn more. Don't be shy with him. He can be a bit qwerky, but there is a method to his madness.

I haven’t taken lessons from Edward, but we have played together since high school band. I’ve seen him play in concerts as a soloist and he is very musical on both piano and trumpet. We also played a trumpet solo with piano accompaniment that he wrote and it was a list of fun. He’s a great guy to work with and is very understanding of any problems you’re having as a musician. I’d definitely recommend Edward as a lesson teacher for both trumpet and piano.

Learn fast, learn easily! Learning piano is NOT "hard," but it DOES take a little time in front of the piano. So, if you're ready, willing, and able to put the time in at the piano, you will see ENORMOUS improvement over a relatively short amount of time. The rate you learn is UP TO YOU! I teach to your pace. So, determine how fast you want to learn, and I'll set a reasonable goal for you to achieve each week in order to get there.

I've taught for over 20 years, and for students of ALL ages (5 years to 81 years old)! If you want to play just for fun, GREAT! If you want to play before an audience, even better! Wanna compete? EXCELLENT! I can provide the opportunities for you to play... once you're ready. The idea is to impress others, not to give yourself anxiety! :-)

About David
My experience starts with elementary school, going through high school... in which I sang and played piano for students going to Solo & Ensemble competition, played for musicals, played at my church accompanying the choir, etc. Singing was the reason I learned to play the piano, to accompany myself. From high school I taught private lessons since then, and have quite a level of success with my students. Those that were interested in making a career of music, most have gone on to perform professionally at Walt Disney World, international cruise liners, and singing back-up or playing piano for popular and Contemporary Christian artists. My professional performances have included performing in operas, musicals, a cappella groups, and many, many other venues over the years. Together, my Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and my experience
make me uniquely qualified to instruct and perform just about anywhere and with anyone. I look forward to working with you shortly.
