Funk, slap, walking, in-the-pocket. All strange terms that you'll need to know. Let me show you how to put down the foundation to most musical styles from rock to r&b or even metal!
I started playing guitar originally in 1991. I picked up bass and ukulele (and then gradually a plethora of other instruments) over the ensuing years. I started teaching in 2001 throughout the Chicagoland area. First in music stores, then schools, then people's homes (including mine) and then online (live via Zoom).
Besides teaching and performing, I also ran an all ages music venue and recording studio from 2006-2015.
Teaching is my biggest love and I love seeing students learn. There isn’t a style I will not teach. All music to me is fascinating
*** Lesson Details *** All lessons start with the basics (assuming the student doesn’t already know them). This includes: reading music and chord diagrams, understanding rhythm, basic music theory, etc. Meanwhile, we will apply this knowledge to songs of the student’s choice- this wa
y they’re learning songs they like, and more about the instrument and music at the same time. As time goes on we’ll get into playing lead, advanced theory, songwriting and more.
Above is the plan, but I am always open to suggestions from the students as well. As long as they are learning, I am happy. In all reality, we can spend years on just one of the many paths you can go down with music- so I am always continually re-checking on the student’s current and up-to-date goals.
*** Specialties *** Patience. I feel like it is necessary to be a good teacher. Other than that, I am very confident in my teaching skills. I love so many genres of music that its hard to say where my best talents lie. But no matter what the style, I will say one thing that I have always been strict about is proper technique and rhythm. I feel like timing is something that a lot of musicians take for granted and often have to learn the hard way later on. I try to incorporate it soon after a beginner's first lessons.
Ian is an incredible teacher. Very patient and professional. The way he teaches is very straight forward and easy to understand. I can’t wait to learn more & more... less than a week has passed since my lesson. I already feel so comfortable with my ukulele,
All the utube lessons were useless for me. I realized this after 1 lesson with Ian. The frustration factor on utube was a waste of time for me. I am so happy I chose ian & this company.
Thank you so much, jen

great teacher for popular acoustic guitar
Ian is a no nonsense well organized guy. He taught me using exercises he wrote out on paper mostly in tabulature form. He used a metronome from the first lesson and always introduced a music theory concept such as rhythm, pentatonic scales, and chord transposition. He will not move past any exercise until you can demonstrate proficiency so there is no choice but to draw your own conclusion that you need to practice more if you want to progress. He teaches out of his local all ages music venue, or will travel to your home.
I've played bass guitar for a few years and enjoy teaching beginners. I incorporate reading music and reading tab.
I've been teaching private lessons for over 15 years. I was a high school music teacher & band director in the Philadelphia area for 7 years, and I now live in Miami, FL where I am working on a doctoral degree in conducting. I also work as a freelance musician. I'm looking forward to making music with you!
Your lesson specifics are up to you! If you know what you want to learn, I'll help get you there. If you don't know where to start, I can lead you through the fundamentals and help you set goals.
I like to keep things positive in music lessons. Music is, after all, for fun and enjoyment! I like to blend teaching technique and musicianship, while keeping things fun.
If you're a beginner, we'll get started with all the fundamentals you need to begin making music. If you've been playing for a while, I'll help you perfect
things you've been working on, expand your musical experience, and help you reach your fullest potential as a musician.
Online lessons are a wonderful option! I am flexible with scheduling and allow changes up to 24-hours before a scheduled lesson. My home studio has chairs, music stand, and areas for parents to sit in on lessons. Garage band is available for recording. Students need an instrument and books.
Tina has provided our daughter 11 year old daughter with outstanding lessons as a beginning trumpet player this past summer! Not only was our daughter able to skip beginning band and be placed into the more advance concert band with the 1st trumpets, she received an invite from her well known director of bands to participate in the school’s Big Band. Our daughter is quickly improving on her playing skills.
Tina will always be remembered as the primary influence behind her aspirations to play the trumpet the right way!

During that time, I've developed a diverse, flexible approach to teaching that is customized to the needs and interests of each of my students. I'll help you set up musical goals, and then use your preferred learning style to help you achieve them.
*** Lesson Details *** My goal is to help you unlock your full musical potential by tailoring your lesson experience to your unique interests and goals. Your lessons will be a balance of technique and creativity. My studio is equipped with pro sound gear and software so we can incorporate drum sounds, keyboards, bass, and guitar into your lessons. Jason tailors the course to a student's individual learning pace and needs. There is also a good combination between theory and learning cords to play a song. Technique is emphasized to build good habits and a foundation for future growth.
We will go over grooves, styles, fingerpicking skills, and scales/theory.

Curriculum will include technique, styles discussion, songs, and performance.

Jeff is a great teacher. Jeff made the lessons super fun and meaningful for my son. He has a unique way of teaching that really helps anyone in any level understand. I highly recommend Jeff!
Once basics are covered special attention is paid to chordal theory and how to use it. We will also work on technique as needed. The goal is to have you ready to gig in a very short time.
I have been playing music for over 30 years, and have been teaching music for almost half of that time. I have performed and recorded throughout the Midwest in a variety of cover and original bands ranging in styles from metal, rock, to R&B/Jazz and Blues. I teach these styles as well.
The most important thing for me as a music instructor is to get to know the student. I then tailor the lesson in a way that will resonate with the personality of the student. Finding the right balance of technique, theory, and fun, my goal is to have the student leave the lesson eager to go home, practice and come back for more. All ages and skill levels are welcome.
Greg is a great men also a great teacher, when i first meet with Greg for my first lesson that i known i will be learning by the great teacher.
I had played guitar in the past many, many years but for sometime in my life was so busy working, and focus on raising family but i had to put away my guitar i bought 25 years ago. finally, now i decided to learn to play my guitar again and find Greg on take lesson.com and he has been teaching me just like i am a beginner playing but i am now so happy that i am on a good hand and Greg had been teaching me playing my guitar again. so far so good. Thanks Gregory

I took lessons from Greg when I was much younger say 12-13 for a year or more. He taught me a lot and had me playing guitar really fast, I always tried to do what he asked and he never ever got frustrated if I did it wrong or couldn't play what we were learning right away correctly!. Also all of what he taught me stayed in my head all these years some how and I kinda progressively got better and better!. I'm pretty happy with my playing and a lot of others are to!. Greg has something special about his students and teaching them to play the guitar correctly no matter what or how long it takes, he cares about you as a student. You get out what you put in ,but be patient cause it also takes time. But you'll see the difference later down the road that Greg was the right teacher for learning to play and the theory behind the guitar.....I recommend him as a great guitar teacher!. I myself take lessons from him again at the age of 38 , I was able to find him on Facebook after all these years and we do lessons via Skype, I'm a very happy student, very happy!. And I thank Greg Gladman for that!.

Zelda is a fantastic singing teacher. I felt a good vibe when I read her bio. I started out doing a half hour lessons and changed it to hour long lessons on the first lesson. She has helped me advance in my skills. She makes it relaxing, right off the bat, when you walk in and she offer's you tea. She is very patient and helpful. I've taken five lessons and signed up for five more.
"I have been studying with him online for some time now and I can only say is that he is a true teacher. Really enjoy taking you lessons!"

John provides balanced lessons tailored to your level and how much you want to work. Learning music fundamentals and song
s are seamlessly mixed. He has a laid back style, which is great."
"I started with Jeff in 1976 after becoming frustrated with my teacher who only taught the Carol Kaye method. Jeff was a breath of fresh air with his enco
uraging me to perfect my basic skills and expand the genres of music I listened to and played. After a few months he understood exactly the way I learned and my lessons became focused on my personal progression that was always changing at that age of my life.
What remained a constant during my years of lessons was Jeff’s caring nature, commitment to better my skills, understanding reading music, theory, and playing by ear. These skills he imparted to me continue today, over 40 years later.
Thank you Jeff!"
