I have played piano since I was about 5 years old. I love all styles of music but especially love to play classical pieces on piano. I would love to teach you or your child how to play a classical piece!
About Beckie
My name is Beckie and I have played music for all of my life. I play and teach many different instruments such as the French horn, trumpet, piano, saxophone, mandolin, guitar, and voice.
In 2017, I graduated from UCLA with my Masters in Music on French horn. In 2010, I graduated from Chapman University with two degrees in music- music performance on French horn and music education.
My first job was as at a Montessori Academy elementary school, where I was the brass coach for 3 years. This is where I fell in love with teaching. I have been teaching privately for 15 years now and love the one-on-one attention that I can give the students.
I have worked with many great organizations like the Los Angeles Philharmonic and various music studios around Los Angeles.
I currently am a freelance musician. I perform with differen
I look forward to working with you or your child in helping to start or continue a musical instrument!
*** Lesson Details ***
When I teach lessons, I like to check in with the student to see how their day was and how practicing throughout the week went. I am very patient and will teach at the student's pace. I expect the student to practice during the week, even if for just 10 minutes a day. I will always work with a student as long as it takes to have them understand what is difficult for them musically.
For music, I try to find free options but books may be a better option. When we choose a book to play out of, I like to choose a book together so that the parent and the child are happy about the selection. Books vary based on what the needs are for each student. Books are to be purchased by the parent.
I usually play my instruments with the students, but being a freelance musician, I may need to save my chops for an upcoming gig. Not always, but happens from time to time :)
I also have a 24-hour cancellation/lesson change policy. If you are late for your lesson, I will try to accommodate the time but may have students or rehearsals afterward so it will not always be a guarantee. If you are going to be late, please text me BEFORE the scheduled lesson.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Lesson space is in my home w/ seating for parents and music stand for students. I also have a cat and a dog, so if you are allergic, please let me know!
*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide the music books and their own instruments and music stand.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical genres of playing but I am able to teach all different styles of music.

Having intensely studied piano performance at Westminster Choir College, having been a self taught pianist for seven years previously, and having taught piano for over a decade has prepared me to teach any beginner and intermediate piano student.
About Heather M.
I'm a cum laude graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey and a winner of its merit scholarship.
After performing with the New York and Royal Philharmonics, the New Jersey and Virginia Symphonies, the American Boy Choir and the internationally renowned opera star, Andrea Bocelli, studying opera and piano at Westminster Choir College and performance art and improvisational acting at East Carolina University in North Carolina, and appearing in shows and pageants across the east coast, I found my life'
I've successfully taught hundreds of different students since 2003, from 5-year-olds with special needs to middle-aged professional opera singers, from a professor in Saudi Arabia to a 65-year-old doctor of music, from kids of Radio Disney to students of the famed Actors Studio in New York, from busy stay-at-home parents to retirees with bucket lists, from CEOs to touring singer-songwriters.
I've created and led a workshop about singing called, "The Whole Body Singer". I've written dozens of articles about music and music education for the blog at TakeLessons.com.
My extensive knowledge of the voice has encouraged and empowered hundreds of singers and prepared many of them to win competitions, pageants and auditions, as well as roles in operas and musicals.
Having both taught myself piano and received formal training at a conservatory has prepared me to teach almost anyone how to play.
The intensive training and education that I received at Westminster Choir College in songwriting, music theory and sight reading has benefited my students at every level.
My current work as singer and keyboardist in the acoustic rock duo, Timberwood, has strengthened my knowledge of a broad range of styles and genres. I have a strong commitment to continuing my education. That's why I recently (2014) studied songwriting online with the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
In the lessons that I teach, I'm flexible, positive and encouraging. While I want my students to have fun and love music, not dread it, I expect hard work and persistence. I am caring, patient, nurturing, and compassionate. In piano lessons, I usually allow the student to choose a piece with which to warm up and then move on to technique and repertoire. In voice lessons, I usually warm up the singer and discuss technique and sight singing before focusing on song choices. Joan Frey Boytim wrote a book for voice that I like to use, and I like the Estelle Liebling exercises for the more advanced singer. Hanon exercises are a big part of my piano curriculum, and I enjoy the Bastien and Alfred books for young and old. I have used completely random songs pulled out of a piano bench and a karaoke CD for kids. I will use almost anything I can get my hands on if it means effectively teaching music.
Acting lessons consist of exercises and games that apply learned concepts, and monologue and audition coaching. Parents, siblings and spouses are always welcome to observe lessons quietly.

About John V.
CloseI find that spark, the reason you want to learn. I find the reason you want to continue. I have been taught with the logic that you must love what you do and with that love, you can do it well. I start with easy basics, like triads and block chords, and then progress to harder sequences with eight notes. I also strive for the knowledge of music theory while learning piano. Without learning theory, you cannot accurately know what you are playing. I can also find the reason you chose to play and we will explore that together. Finding the reason you are inspired to do something can help with the frequency of which you practice or continue an art form.

I teach how to read, play, collaborate and listen. I take an interest in the student in particular, by allowing them to work towards being able to play their favorite songs on the piano. I always include fun activities into my lesson plans, which are always relative to the students' age. I am not only a teacher, but also a mentor - one that will help students get where they want to be with their lessons, regardless of how high their goals are set.
About Alan
I began taking lessons on the piano around the age of 5, and through time and work I developed a passion for this instrument. I continued throughout junior high, under the instruction of Will Bailey of Scottsbluff, Ne. and high school, under the instruction of Mical Thurow. Often times we would have recitals, so I learned a lot about playing and performing under these instructors, all of which I continue to teach my students. I continued playing throughout college, where I majored in piano performance and music technology. Throughout my performance degree, I was required to give a 40 minute long recital, which I completed with the works of Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Debussy and Chopin. I recently graduated in May of 2017, and have been continuing to teach lessons to students and pass on the gift of music.

About Sharon D.
CloseI have been teaching children and adults piano lessons for 10 years now. I have my master's degree in music from the University of Utah. I work mainly on classical music, but we can work on any type that you are interested in learning. Students for me have been as young as 4, and as old as 65. My only criteria is that my students be able to read, count, and sit for the lesson.
About Sharon
I am a mother of a beautiful little girl, and have been teaching piano for 10 years. I have a passion for music. Music helps children and adults to learn, improves grades, focus, and their ability to express themselves. In such a busy world, it is a blessing to stop and delve into music. I want to teach children and adults to appreciate this art and make the most of themselves like I did.
I started to play right before college. I then graduated with a master's degree in music. I play flue and violin as well, but my main passion is piano. Life is short, so I want to enrich my life and yours if I can.
