It's much easier to understand the nuts and bolts of music when put into the context of the music you like.

Aaron was enthusiastic with my 14 year old son and introduced him to the basics of playing bass with some music theory and scales review, basic technique instruction, and some assigned exercises to practice at home. My son loved it and has been practicing as a result.

Aaron is the perfect teacher for my son. He clearly knows his stuff, but is really laid back in his approach, which helped a lot to relax my son and get him excited about learning guitar. Great experience.

Learn the practical application of music theory on the bass by studying songs. You will begin to understand how bass lines are written. After learning shapes and patterns you will be on your way to writing your own bass lines and jamming on your favorite songs.

About Eric
Music isn't just a career choice: it is a way of life. I have been playing music since I was a toddler; everything I have learned about life has been through music. I believe that self-expression is important to being confident with yourself. I look forward to sharing my passion for music and teaching with any students who are ready to learn!

I'm an accomplished composer and sound engineer with music featured on CBS, ABC, E!, Bravo, and other networks. I also write music for film & gaming. I am fluent in a range of professional software programs which includes Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Amadeus Pro, Cubase, and MaxMSP.

I have over a decade of performance experience and have played along the East Coast with several bands. Some venues I have performed at recently include The Plaza Theatre in Orlando; Backbooth in Downt
own Orlando; The Crowbar in Tampa; The Bandshell and The Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach. I am a versatile musician who primarily performs and instructs on Drums, Bass, and Guitar (acoustic and electric). I teach nearly all styles of music, including classical, jazz, funk, and rock. I have graduated from Stetson University with degrees in Digital Arts, Music, and Business.

I feel that nothing is impossible. Great results aren't given--they are earned, and I know how to set goals to reach those results. This is a virtue I like to share with students. My dedication to music has helped me accomplish much at a young age.

*** Lesson Details ***
All lessons accommodate the unique needs of the student. My lessons don't merely teach you musical theories: I will teach you how to express yourself through your instrument as you learn those theories. You will gain technical knowledge and the tools to experience your musical potential. Lessons with me are the perfect extra-curricular activity for your child, or a great experience for you. A large part of my curriculum is more than learning how to play a few cover songs. The lessons are also about becoming more confident with yourself as a person and developing character along the way. You will learn about the discipline, patience, and dedication that it takes to stand out among professionals, not just as a musician, but as a strong individual. Music is a part of that. What you play becomes an extension of yourself. Young or old, everyone has something to share with the world through music.

In a given lesson, you can expect half of it to be about the basics of your instrument and the literature for reading music. The other half is about how you can apply these principles in a unique way that relates to yourself. However, the lesson is all about the student. If the student wants to learn in different ways that is never a problem. All I ask is that you're eager to learn! Everybody has different musical tastes and different learning styles. That is what makes every musician unique and every lesson exciting.

I enjoy teaching people of all ages 5 and up and have experience teaching groups or individuals. From beginner or experienced, hobbyist or professional, every person has a place in the wonderful world of music!

Eric is the real deal as a guitar teacher. I personally play the guitar myself, but as any parent knows when it comes to teaching your own child there is going to be some resistance no matter what! Lol. Eric is very well educated in music and has the rapport to teach beginners as well as advanced students. My son looks forward to his time with Eric and considers him a friend as well! In closing, if your looking for an instructor that has a solid music background that can channel that knowledge into your child or self, look no further!

Learning to play from a DVD or the internet can not properly teach a beginner bass player, because there should be a student/teacher interaction, one has to already know how to play in order for a DVD to be effective, and i truly believe one will still need an instructor. i enjoy teaching and playing bass. i teach (4 to 6 string), which includes learning to read bass clef notes, scales, chords, keys signatures and time on the music staff, etc., etc., i can teach tab also. i like to teach beginners to give them the correct and formal fingering techniques, then later if they like, they can go all willy nilly. i get satisfactory results. i also love playing guitar and piano, i know these instruments very well and because i want to teach as many as i can to keep real music alive, i also teach beginner guitar and piano, all the above applies to guitar and piano lessons, and music theory and ear training. i like using small i's

About Bil
I am one of those individuals for whom teaching is just something that I have to do. I started giving music lessons sometime in the 80's and have loved working with all levels of skill and experience. My students say that I am patient, adaptive and encouraging, committed to making music fun.

I have a Masters of Music from New England Conservatory in Jazz Piano and am comfortable and fluent in a number of musical styles, including pop, rock, gospel, traditional hymnody, jazz, and R&B. Although I love and study classical music, it is not something I teach at this point.

In addition to private lessons and performing, I do music transcription, workshops, and all forms of vocal and instrumental arranging. Bil Mooney-McCoy is a life-long Boston resident who has been playing music all his life. Having served as a church musician for more
than 30 years, I am currently the Director of Worship for the chapel at Gordon College, a small Christian school north of Boston. I'm often involved in city-wide music events in Boston’s faith-based community and in demand as a featured musician for church services, parties, concerts and other events.

I hold a Masters of Music from New England Conservatory in Jazz Piano and am comfortable and fluent in a number of musical styles. In addition to private lessons and performing, I do music transcription, workshops, and all forms of vocal and instrumental arranging. My passions include morning coffee, finding new guitar chords, creating killer PowerPoint presentations, and trying to figure out how to use my smart phone.

*** Lesson Details ***
My priority as a teacher is to make the learning process fun, life-giving, and productive. I teach with patience and humor, at a challenging but not frustrating pace.

Some quotes from my students:
"I absolutely love learning from Bil! I've watched my playing and the playing of others at church vastly improve as a result of his training."

"[Bil] is filled with a large amount of knowledge, so while sitting under him you not only learn about how to play but you learn about music history and theory. Beyond being a good teacher he is genuine and friendly and cares about others."

"I have really enjoyed working with Bil. His patience and wealth of knowledge has helped me come out of my musical shell and has encouraged me to discover my musical voice."

"Bil makes learning theory fun! His deep understanding of music is complemented by his contagious enthusiasm."

"Bil has taken me to a different level. I went from tab and basic guitar chords, to building jazz chords and a far greater understanding of music theory."

There are at least two ways that might set me apart from other teachers.

Firstly, I have honed and developed "people skills". I am an ordained minister and have held positions where I was formally and informally in a mentoring/pastoring role. I bring that sensitivity to my music lessons, understanding that personal and emotional issues can be triggered by the engagement with the music and skills being worked on.

Secondly, I've had a remarkable broad base of experience. My coursework has exposed me to a wide breadth of ideas and tools; my work life has been long and varied; I have had extensive experience in many different cultural contexts, both musically and otherwise; and I work well with many age groups and skill levels.

Regarding my teaching approach:
For beginners, I have a fairly consistent set of topics and skill sets to cover. Generally, in a few months, piano students (particularly those in middle school through adulthood) should know how to play major, minor and seventh chords, how to read simple chord charts and some very basic accompanying skills. Guitar students should know a dozen open chords and have been introduced to barre chords, and to have learned several styles of finger picking as well as strumming. Bass students should know how to find notes on the board and will have begun to learn how to fill out a song with an expressive but non-obtrusive bass line.

For intermediate students, the pace, direction and focus on lessons depends upon the goals and passions of the student along with the amount of time he or she has to practice. My goals for students at this level and beyond is to learn how to learn. I will use outstanding recorded examples of particular skills or stylistic idioms to help my students understand and master each new concept. I often will check in with my student to make sure that we are on track with what they are hoping for.

For advanced students, we will generally target very specific objectives. I also try to add elements of theory, history, culture, and even life lessons to apply to the topics we address. Because of my background in pastoral ministry, I can serve as a mentor addressing the emotional and relational issues of playing music as well as its technical aspects.

*** Studio Equipment ***
upstairs music room: fender Rhodes piano, keyboards, amps, drum set, seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
if for guitar or bass, that instrument; I expect piano students to have an available keyboard and for other students to have their own instrument(s).

*** Specialties ***
strong in jazz, rock, pop, gospel, sacred, R&B.

Been playing bass for over 35 years and have done so in a variety of formats. Commercial CD recordings, rock, blues, folk, broadway, stage, you name it.

About Gene
I have been a musician for my entire life. Started Singing when I was 3, playing Bass Guitar when I was 11, Electric and Acoustic Guitar when I was 13 and recording and producing my own music when I was 17. I received my Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL in 1991. I opened my own Recording Studio in 1997 and have been a professional musician and producer for over 20 years now. I released my first album with my band in 2000. I performed weekly for 500+ people for over 15 years and have produced, recorded or performed on more than 50 commercial music CD releases.

My wide breadth of musical experience has proven invaluable for my students over the years. Being more than just a multi-instrumentalist gives me an exceptionally wide reservoir of knowledge for my stude
nts. I have had students stay with me for over 10 years and had multiple students take time away and then return to me as their knowledge and experience increased. My students stay with me because I keep them growing on their instruments and as musicians. Several of my students have gone on to careers in music and have credited me with developing the level of musicianship within them. I find that to be the greatest reward as a teacher.

I would be honored to help guide you on your journey as a musician. Please let me help!

I have always wanted to learn guitar but never had the opportunity, finally when I was 16 I bought my first guitar. I realized how hard guitar was, and almost felt embarrassed to learn. The guitar collected dust for almost 6 years, until September 2014, when I found Gene on Craiglist. I was very nervous as I had never played a day in my life and I was scared I would be terrible.. well I was! but Gene immediately made me feel comfortable with learning a new skill as an adult. He has been so patient through this long learning process and always encourages me to keep going and is good at pointing out my progress when I think I have not made any. Gene is just awesome, he is super caring and understanding. He has become more than just a guitar teacher, he is a friend. Whenever I am having a bad day I love that I can go to guitar, learn some awesome stuff and get out some much needed venting. He's like my guitar therapist! I honestly believe I wasn't meant to learn till I could learn from him! :D he's great and I would recommend him to anyone!!!

I’ve taken guitar lessons with Gene for over 5 years. My guitar experience prior to meeting Gene was very limited. So limited that I didn’t even own a guitar pic nor how to properly hold/use one. I never felt that I needed guitar lessons as I had taught myself many other hobbies in the past. “Practice makes perfect” was a motivational phrase I often told myself. It wasn’t till a failed audition at my local church that I realized my practicing wasn’t producing the results I had wanted/expected. I started working with Gene and immediately identified that a majority of my current abilities were based upon improper techniques.

I didn’t fully appreciate or understand proper technique as its affects were not always apparent in my playing. As my lessons progressed and technique improved, I realized that my motivational slogan wasn’t complete. I now say; “proper practice makes perfect”. Working with Gene got me back on track with learning to play guitar. I have confidence when practicing knowing that the time I’m investing is not being wasted on bad habits.

A lot has changed since starting lessons with Gene. I re-auditioned at church and made the worship team! I regularly played lead guitar at my church and was content with my playing ability. I decided to stop lessons as I now had a solid foundation and figured that I could pick up anything I didn’t know from online videos. This was one of biggest mistakes I’ve made.

Quickly after being on my own, I began to realize the lacking quality and musicianship in the countless “tutorial” videos found on YouTube. It’s easy finding online song lesson, however, it’s very rare to find someone teaching it correctly or true to the album. I remembered working with Gene and not only learning the EXACT riffs and leads to a song, but also the artist’s style, tone and effects used. Over the years I became accustom to learning and sounding just like the artist I was trying to replicate. This quality of instruction I have only been able to find while working with Gene.

I noticed that my interested in playing guitar faded after I ended lessons. I just didn’t have the excitement to learn new songs or challenge myself to play better on the ones I did know. After a long sabbatical I decided to start back up lessons with Gene. Fast forward a few years; I now look forward to practicing nightly and regularly play with multiple churches within the Denver Metro area.

I would not be where I am musically today without Gene’s guidance and inspiration. He’s a great mentor and continues to challenge me to be a better musician. Looking back, if I could change anything about my experience with Gene, it would be starting lessons with him sooner and never taken a break.

I've been taking vocal lessons with Gene once a week for about a couple of months now. I can, without reservation, recommend Gene as a teacher due to the following competencies.
A. Very knowledgeable in the subject matter - Gene has a wealth of experience, clearly knows music theory and has diverse musical background to draw from
B. Can explain musical concepts to beginners in an approachable and easy-to-understand fashion. I have no previous vocal training, and very little formal musical training altogether, and I find Gene's explanations easy to follow to understand.
C. Flexibility - Gene has been very willing to work with me, and remain an effective instructor on, for example, assessing my singing in Russian, a language he does not speak.
D. Results - After 7 classes, I feel Gene has provided me with practical instruction that, when applied, has resulted in improved singing .

I teach the Berklee Method for contemporary music.

My curriculum is an in-depth study of music theory, improvisation and modern technique.

I do not focus on brutal sight-reading or memorization, but I teach through technical exercises that equip students with the faculty needed to analyze, read and write music.

It's great for students who are into jazz or pop and want to pursue Berklee instead of a classical conservatory.

The knowledge will allow you to join any band, regardless of genre, while building your songwriting and improvisational chops.

About Wake
I love teaching music! Through attentive 1on1 instruction I develop a program to suit the player's goals. I emphasize technique with drills designed to raise my students' skills evenly across a wide range of categories, like picking, fretting, scale patterns, chord shapes, chord progressions, rhythm training, and ear training. I can guide a complete beginner toward being able to play songs and have fun. For the more serious student I have a plan that will make you a better player and musician guaranteed.

Wake's creativity and patients have made each lesson work so well for me. Despite all the questions I ask and difficulties I feel I have with the music and learning the whole new language of music, he is always encouraging and points out my progress - which I feel make his a great teacher. We have been working with Wake for a month and he is awesome!! He is very smart, creative and makes learning fun. His knowledge about music is impressive and he is able to adjust to our child's desire to advance in guitar as well as with overall music theory. He is able to change his teaching strategy based on her level of understanding. When met with a challenge of a broken arm he quickly rose to the occasion and adapted to help our daughter continue her learning! Impressive response time, adaptation and eager to help a serious student.

My first concern with lessons is to determine what the student wants to improve on most. For students with a specific aim, I'd structure my lessons as best as I can around improving that focus. For a more general aim, we can decide together a few areas that the student would like to focus on and go from there.

Apart from learning simply about the bass, I will do my best to also train the student's ear with exercises that make use of the bass as well as voice. For example, singing a brief melody and learning how to play it back on the bass guitar.

Alongside ear training, there is the necessity to introduce the student to music theory.

Of course, not all players are eager to learn ear training and theory, so I would make sure the student is comfortable with this before engaging in any type of exercises like this.

If the student simply wants to learn some of their favorite tunes on bass, that's perfectly okay with me!

About Nathan
I'm Nate!

Music has been a huge part of my life since I was a kid. I started drum lessons when I was in second grade and eventually switched to learning bass in seventh grade. I've been playing bass ever since (so for about ten years now).

In high school, I studied music extensively and worked one-on-one with many of my teachers to gain a better understanding of the subject.

In 2012, I was accepted for Jazz bass performance at UMass Amherst back. After a semester of intense music study, I switched majors and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with a focus in Software Engineering.

In high school and in college, I tutored students via an online tutoring portal (similar to TakeLessons). Subjects I've tutored in include 5th grade and 7th grade mathematics, as well as college level music theory.

I look forwar
d to meeting you and learning what it is exactly you wish to improve. I'll do everything I can to help you achieve that goal and hopefully have fun doing it!

I've toured 10+ countries, 20+ states as an artist and played for many international artists, I've also had teaching experience of over 6 years. When I think back on the days I started learning the bass and other instruments and the joy I had, I'd feel guilty if I didn't share that joy and pass it on. I will teach you your favorite songs, guide you to improve your skills through my own teaching method which includes recording like a studio session player and help you be the bass player you want to be. Lessons in any genre available including worship music. Lessons for beginners to advanced levels available.
