Lessons consist of learning a solid vocal technique, and learning Broadway repertoire. Also, performing skills will be incorporated, so that the singer feels comfortable acting the song as well. I strongly believe that singers must be actors, and that is what makes us different from instrumentalists. It is also a lot of fun! For children or adults who are willing, I also teach sight singing and spend some of the lessons time learning some basic reading skills.

About me!

I am a Westminster Choir College '11 Alum  who graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in Music, summa cum laude. I also have my master's degree in music therapy from Drexel University. I am also a Member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and a  Board Certified Music Therapist. During my time at school I performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kimmel Center, and did music therapy work with older adults, as well as disadvantaged children and parents.

I have been teaching for over four years and now have a studio of more than 70 happy students. Teaching music is my passion, and I love seeing students grow!

I often draw upon my experience from my master's degree in music therapy, which taught me that music can have a profound effect on the human brain and upon cognitive development.  My skills as a music therapist allow me to better understand a student's cognitive strengths and areas for improvement, and to develop individualized teaching strategies which utilize student strengths.

Rachel is most excellent, and quite learned in the surprisingly confusing art of singing. There are large framed pieces of paper confirming her advanced knowledge next to the piano, one of which is in all caps so it's super official. She's patient but knows the benefits of pushing what you think your singing limits are, and shows you see the whole process from a different, more helpful perspective.

We will work on vocal technique, focusing on breath, diction and finding the best resonance and clearest/healthiest tone, while also choosing songs that are appropriate for the particular goals of the student, and/or 8-bar cuts that can be used in auditions.

About Leah
Hi there! I have been teaching for about seven years now in San Francisco, New York City and Philadelphia. Below my bio, you can find some reviews that I've received from some of my students in NYC.

I was born and raised in Philadelphia, graduated from NYU in 2013 with a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance, and received my Master of Music degree in classical voice at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where I sang in operas, concerts and recitals weekly. While I was living in SF and NYC, I maintained a private studio of voice students. I love teaching as much as I love performing, so being able to do both is wonderful!
I believe that technique IS expression--a singer must have solid technique in order to express with ease, freedom and artistry. My focus as a teacher is not only on developing a healthy and dependable
technique, but also on finding the inner strength and confidence that it takes to be a singer. I am understanding of, and sympathetic towards students from all different backgrounds and experience levels. My students and I work to create a unique set of goals, and we map out how we get there TOGETHER.

I have experience teaching adults, young adults and children, in pop, musical theater and classical/operatic genres. All of my teaching experience has been in private studio settings.

Here are some of my reviews

"Had my first lesson with Leah and can't wait for my second! I've never had voice lessons before and was nervous and super self-conscious but she was so nice and we jumped right into the lesson." -Tracy D.

"Great teacher. Explains things in a way it's easy to understand. She made me feel very comfortable on the first day and was very attentive to what my goals were." -Christine S.

"Leah listens to a specific need of mine and points me in the right direction to achieve that goal. She also has a wide range of vocal skills and knowledge, so she can pretty much help you tackle any vocal challenge you have." -Eirene Z.

"Leah has a very good personality and makes me feel so comfortable during our classes! I can improve my vocal skills in a very friendly atmosphere knowing she will help me with all my questions." -Yulia S.

"Leah is an awesome and enthusiastic voice teacher and person. She creates a laid back environment and structures the lessons around your individual style and goals. Additionally, she is flexible and works with you to make sure you're able to have a lesson each week. I highly recommend taking lessons with Leah ! :)" --Brandon L.

I want to express my great gratitude to our teacher Elena Vladimirovna. She was engaged with my daughter, 7 years old, during the year with vocals and puppet theater.
The vocal lessons were very interesting. The most part was given to exercises for breathing.Everything in a playful form, funny voice exercises, for young children -
it's very important. My daughter started to feel confident in her voice, began to sing relaxed, learned to hear music.
At the theatrical class, the daughter learned how to independently make dolls from various materials, to manage them, also she got some acting skills
Elena Vladimirovna is attentive, kind and understanding teacher, who wants to teach her pupils a lot.

With foundations in jazz, r&b, classical and musical theater, I am able to help you achieve the sound you want to achieve. I take pride in teaching others and inspiring them to love music and singing the way I have learned to. I believe the essence of music is self-expression and finding meaning in every word and/or note but I also realize the importance of music theory, ear training and the ability to read music as it allows you to understand the music fully and go far beyond what you ever thought you could do.

About Taylor
Singing is truly a science and mostly in the mind. Let me teach you to control your mind so that you can sing the way you've always dreamed to.

Taylor studied music and participated in ensembles throughout her childhood (her award-winning high school show choir was even the subject of the BBC documentary "Gleeful: The Real Show Choirs of America"). This led her to SUNY Fredonia where she studied classical voice and music education before transferring to Berklee College of Music to complete a degree in Professional Music with a concentration in jazz performance. Following graduation, Taylor began teaching private lessons, and has instructed students aged 5 to 65 on piano, voice and trumpet. She has experience working with students on their songwriting, building their repertoire, developing their technique, and most importantly, buildin
g their confidence and their passion. Currently, Taylor performs professionally with a number of groups, perhaps most notably as the front-woman and trumpet player for Jay-Z/Beyonce cover band For the Record, who even earned a spot opening for Salt N’ Pepa at Boston's ThrowABBQ Night. She also leads her own 9-piece jazz/r&b group in which she writes all of the music and just released her third LP entitled 'Do U Feel Me' in June of 2017 (www.taylorkellymusic.com).
