I teach all styles of Bass, including sight reading, ear training and theory. I can get you going fast if you're a beginner and take you through intermediate levels and beyond. I've been playing, teaching and gigging on bass for over 40 years. I also encourage you to bring the songs you want to work on into the lessons.

About Cory
So you want to play an instrument? Well I have taught for over 40 years and have developed special programs for you on piano, guitar, bass, voice and other instruments for you to learn. From easy beginner to the most advanced, I will help you to learn the songs you love! Whether we use the most modern technology in my professional recording studio or just some chords or perhaps learning to sight read something for a talent show, I can take you all the way to the highest performance level. Your goals are my goals.
I have studied with some of the most famous teachers in the world, including Charlie Parker's pianist Walter Bishop Jr. and Dizzy Gillespie's musical director Mike Longo, among many others.
I also have the experience of over 400 gigs a year to bring to your lesson. I have performed on piano, guitar and bass and voca
ls with famous stars and some really great bands which will help me answer many of your questions. I am currently still working, teaching and recording all the time. I also have a professional recording studio in my home which you can take full advantage of.

*** Lesson Details ***
I want you to have fun learning and can help you with understanding and memorizing your songs.
I focus on sight-reading, ear training (like jamming and playing blues) and theory. You get to choose the areas you would like to learn.
Once we have established the basics including melody and chords, we will pick songs you want to learn to play with your friends or just by yourself. We can use music books or go on YouTube to learn your songs.
I have helped students with auditions as well as performances. After only a few lessons you will hear and see things differently than ever before.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio comes complete with acoustic and electric keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars, electric bass and amps to play through, as well as professional microphones for recording. I use ProTools for recording which is used in every major studio around the world and it's loaded with great software for demos or mastering songs.

*** Specialties ***
I teach beginner, intermediate and advanced students.
I teach all styles of music including Classical, Jazz, and Rock/Pop/Blues.
I also teach songwriting, performing and recording in my ProTools studio.

Techniques and theory to get you grooving in any style. Work on general concepts, specific tunes or both.

About Luke
I majored in music at Berea College, then went on to The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where I completed a Masters degree in guitar performance and served as the graduate assistant to the guitar department.

For the past ten years I have earned a living performing and teaching guitar. I am a certified Suzuki instructor, and I've held teaching positions at Winston Salem State University and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, along with at least half a dozen other schools and institutions. I've been featured on other artists' records, and received a grant to release an album of my own songs. I regularly perform in a wide variety of bands and ensembles.

I love to teach, and over the years I have taught hundreds, maybe even thousands of lessons. Having learned something from each and every one
of my students, I am now at a point where I excel at honing in on the individual interests and learning styles of whoever comes to me for help. There are many ways to learn guitar. The best one is the one that engages and inspires you the most. That said, there are also music fundamentals that we all need to know. My joy as a teacher lies in finding a way for you to master the fundamentals while at the same time following your personal bliss and intuition. We plot the course together, combining your curiosity and enthusiasm with my years of experience.

I also love working with kids. While they are having fun jamming, I discretely provide them with the technique and musicianship they'll need to excel in any musical environment, whether it's conservatory study or playing in a great band.

*** Lesson Details ***
Your enthusiasm is the key to your success, so my lessons are tailored to the interests and abilities of each student. That said, my classical background and dedication to effective teaching inform everything I do.

All of my students learn Music Fundamentals:
-Technique (habits of movement)
-Theory (how music works)
-Aural skills (hearing pitches, chords and rhythms clearly)

Many of my students use books. There are hundreds of great books these days, and I will work with students from any book they choose. Listed here are the books I regularly use. They all deliver great results:

-Aaron Shearer "Leaning The Classic Guitar"
-Will Schmidt and Greg Koch "The Hal Leonard Method"
-Joe Pecoraro "Read This First"
-David Oaks "Music Reading For Guitar"
-William Leavitt "A Modern Method For Guitar"
-Mateo Carcassi "Melodic and Progressive Studies, Opus 60"
-Leo Brouwer "Simple Studies"

Many of my students prefer to work without a book, and that is a great option too. These students learn scales, chords and theory and develop a repertoire of songs. I will show you how to play any song you'd like to learn. You can also work on writing your own songs or compositions, or improvising in any context, be it jazz, blues, Indian raga or flamenco.

Singing is also encouraged!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home studio: music stands, extensive library of all kinds of music, great sound system and ability to stream any song, several guitars, recording equipment, footstools, keyboard and percussion instruments.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I'll bring my guitar and books, accessories as needed.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in versatility. I regularly play gigs doing classical, jazz, blues, rock, pop, and world music. All of these genres have a place in my heart, and I've devoted years to learning to play and teach them well.

I am equally polyamorous when it comes to the various things musicians do. I love to sing pop songs, dissect jazz lines, delve into expressive groupings with classical pieces, drill scales and arpeggios, you name it. Reading, improvising, composing and notating, transcribing and playing by ear, memorization, classical technique, blues technique, bluegrass technique, theoretical analysis... hit me up for any of that, or whatever else interests you.

Bass guitar is a continually evolving instrument. It is only about 65 years old now, and we have only began to discover what it can do!

About Kyle
Having been a musician his whole life, and a bassist since the time he was 15 years old, Kyle elected to attend Berklee College of Music on partial scholarship after graduating high school. This allowed him the opportunity to study with the likes of Whit Browne and Anthony Vitti. Summer breaks from school allowed Kyle to complete professional contracts as a working bass player, including playing in Hersheypark’s “Frontier Frenzy” (2010), Holland America Cruiseline’s “The Neptunes” (2011), and Boston’s “The Honeymooners” (2012). After graduating Berklee Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Music Education (December 2012), Kyle decided to move from his childhood home in Connecticut to Nashville, TN to further his career as a bassist and teacher.
Once he arrived in Nashville, he was immediately picked up by the Ashley Buchart Band as their tour
ing bass player. While touring full-‐time with Ashley, he also filled his days “off” by playing gigs with artists such as Stephanie Quayle, Jake Clayton, Nick Cross, and Shannon Selig. He is currently using his extensive professional playing experience as a tool to teach meaningful life and playing lessons to his pupils in the Nashville area!

My main teaching philosophy is to always have the underlying fundamentals in mind. Of course, whenever I start a new subject with my students, it is in an effort to better their playing and move them towards their goals. But while doing so, the fundamentals must always be there. After all, the busiest professional players have the best fundamental technique, precision, and musicality! Overall, though, music makes people happy because it is fun, and I never overlook the importance of that fact!

*** Lesson Details ***
The first thing I like to hear from students is what their goals are while taking lessons. Do you want to become a professional musician? Do you want to be able to play with your friends in a band? Are you looking to perform at your local church with a group of musicians? These student-specific goals will help to drive what we will work on during your lessons. Together, we can reach your goals!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide my own bass/guitar, amplifier, cables, etc. I will also have a pencil and paper, and manuscript paper. I expect the student to have their own amplifier (if necessary) and bass/guitar. They should also have pencils, paper, and manuscript paper.

*** Specialties ***
My lessons center around getting a student prepared to play professionally. I believe that the best way to play professionally is to be as well-rounded as possible. So, my lessons target a wide variety of music styles and technical abilities on the bass/guitar, all while having fun!

I have been playing bass guitar for 16 years and have experience with jazz (big band and combo), pit orchestra, folk, pop, and rock settings. Our first lesson will begin with a quick assessment of your musical background, experience with the instrument, and your musical goals. Your next lessons will build on that foundation to support the goals you want to achieve.

Whether it's starting a band with friends, getting stronger on technique, or learning how to play in a new style or genre, we'll work together to reach your goals!

About Justine
I love music and believe in its ability to bring people together. It's been a part of my life since I was 5, practicing piano at home in Michigan.

Music was a big part of every single one of my school years, and I was lucky enough to be able to double major in music and psychology at Kalamazoo College once I graduated from high school.

My passion for music has taken me abroad, to London, where I studied Western & Russian art music and took classes in popular music studies at Goldsmiths College, University of London.

It spurred my move across the country to New York, where I developed a better understanding of how important creativity is to all of us -- especially musicians! -- at Teachers College, Columbia University.

And, most importantly, it's allowed me to do what I love from my home in San Diego, teaching privately both i
n-person and online. I've recently moved to private teaching full-time and couldn't be happier!

I'm excited to get started with you and help you set and reach your musical goals!

*** Online & In-Person Lesson Details ***
It's most important to me that you are excited and motivated about your music lessons! I am a flexible instructor and am always open to hearing your ideas for songs. After working together to identify your beginning knowledge of music and your instrument, we'll progress from song to song to develop your musical abilities.

All of my online and in-person lessons begin by warming up with a quick exercise, scale, or even an improvisational activity. We'll use the music you love to develop your guitar technique, learn new chords, and sharpen your listening skills.

You'll gain an understanding of what makes the music work and why the notes, rhythms, and harmonies are what they are.

The music we study can also serve as inspiration for creativity. I may ask you to come to the next class with a short composition of your own or we'll finish a lesson by improvising together on related musical themes.

I'll do my best to make my expectations for you clear and at the end of every lesson, we'll go over what we accomplished together and make sure you understand what to work on before our next class.

*** Additional Online Information ***

Online lessons can be just as effective as in-person lessons for teaching you the basics of your instrument, developing technique, and achieving your musical goals! I'll use screen sharing to display music, chords, and scale charts during the lessons. Materials will be emailed to you as well for you to use at home. And communication is extra important when it comes to online lessons; because I can't make physical adjustments, I'll often assess how you hold your musical instrument and describe how you can make the adjustments yourself.

Please note that a high-speed internet connection is needed in order to make sure that we can see and hear each other appropriately. In addition, I expect that you will be able to provide your own musical instrument (and amplifier, if you have an electric instrument) to use during the lesson.

*** Additional In-Person Information ***
I teach my in-person lessons from my home office with comfortable seating for both students and parents. I expect that you will be able to provide your own musical instrument to use during the lesson.

I will have music stands available for use during lessons and will accompany and demonstrate on my musical instruments. I will have an amplifier and cables, but if you prefer to bring your own amplifier you can do that, too!

Please note that I have two cats; they'll be in an enclosed room away from where we will have lessons, but if you have cat allergies this may not be a good fit.

I went into banjo lessons not knowing if I could master the instrument or not, being nearly 70 years old. While by no means a master (and never going to be), I have learned so much from Sam and he has shown such patience with me. I often leave my lessons wondering how he ever puts up with me - but he does. His encourgement, laid-back style, expertise and knowledge of music (plus theory) and the banjo is impressive. His good nature makes my lessons so much more pleasant. I would say Sam is a a great teacher for both a beginner or an accomplished musician or in between. Having performed jazz, funk, rock, pop, blues, Brazilian fusion, and classical among other genres, I use the fluidity between these inform each of my lessons. Whether a student is a beginner looking to play their favorite song on the radio, an intermediate looking for some music theory to give them more options in their playing, or an advanced player looking for improvisatory techniques, I tailor each session to the desires of each student and their learning style.

About Daniel
I'm a gigging musician and teacher who graduated from Oberlin College in May 2015 with a degree in Musical Studies and Physics. I was on the Division III tennis team there for two years as well. I pride myself on patience and empathy no matter what I teach, whether it feeling the pulse of a complicated drum groove or solving a challenging physics word problem. For music lessons, I strive to bring in a context of genre fluidity and history, so that a student knows where and what to explore on their own even when I am not in the room to show them. Overall, my teaching is all about inspiring students to do well and make their strengths work for them, rather than dryly coming up with the "right answer" or playing a tune the "right way" to get from point A to point B.

As a current faculty member of the New York Jazz Workshop, Andrea Veneziani is a dedicated educator. My goal as a teacher is to give you the facility to express yourself through music. The key parts to developing this facility are:

1. theory -- if you know your theory, you know the best way to express your idea without having to think about it
2. technique -- the last thing you want is for your technique to hinder your ability to express your idea. Having good technique lets your ideas flow naturally

When you take lessons with me, you get out of it what you put in. Your job as student is to be honest with what you expect to achieve and my job as teacher is to give you the tools to achieve it

About David
As bass players, we are in a unique position in most situations. Since bass is both a harmony and rhythm instrument we have the opportunity to develop into leaders in a way other instrumentalists don't. I will encourage students interested in exploring this aspect of their instrument

I have a degree in music performance and once pursued a career, but playing is now something I do primarily for fun. I want my students to be able to have as much fun playing as I do

David is fantastic. He is very smart and his formal education in music shines through in his teachings. He teaches the proper foundational techniques which may be harder to adopt initially but without it, advancement to high level playing is much more difficult and time consuming. David's direct teaching style creates very efficient sessions and maximum progression. David has the right balance of formal music education to ensure proper technique, and his personal band side project to ensure that you are enjoying the process since that's what's most important.
